My Favorite Color is Yellow

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am a guest designer at the Cut It up Challenge. The challenge theme is Your Favorite Color(s). Yes! I created a card that screams my favorite color, yellow. I like yellow because it reminds me of the sun. The sun represents energy, power, positivity, and clarity.

This is my second time to be a GD at Cut It Up Challenge. On my first GD gig, I created a Weaved Fall Card. It is very easy to join the challenge. Create a project based on the challenge theme and make sure to include a die cut. If you are chosen as one of the Top 3, you have the chance to become a Cut It Up Challenge GD.

The most involving part of my card is the background which is all stitched. I used a cross stitch die to add stitching holes to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white cardstock. I was so inspired by a card created by Jennifer McGuire that I used the stitches on her card on my card. The difference is that Jennifer used different colors of embroidery floss while I only used yellow DMC embroidery flosses on my card. I had so much fun stitching this background that I think I am going to create another card like this.

I die cut the postage frame using the SugarPea Designs Postage Stamp Sugar Cut on a gold Grafix vellum paper. To create this into a frame, I used a Hero Arts Nesting Rectangle Die to die cut a rectangular opening on the center of the postage die cut. I adhered the frame to the stitched panel.

I die cut the leaf using the Simon Says Stamp Laurel Leaf die on vellum, a yellow-gold cardstock and the same gold vellum paper I used for the frame. I adhered these die cuts on top of one another with the vellum on top to mute the yellow-gold cardstock. I adhered this to the stitched area, applying dots of glue to the stem and the ends of the leaves connected to the stem. I applied something heavy over the leaf while the glue is drying up.

For the sentiment, I used the Spellbinder Pocket Full of Spring die to etched a sentiment on a yellow cardstock. I die cut the sentiment into a strip using a sentiment strip die. I die cut two extra pieces on white cardstock. I adhered the white strips on the back of the etched sentiment strip for dimension. I inked the sides using the Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress ink. I adhered this to the laurel leaf on the stitched panel.

I zhuzhed the tips of the leaves to add interest to the focal point of the card.

I trimmed an eight of an inch off each side of the stitched panel. I adhered this panel to a yellow cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I adhered this to a top folding note card.

I hope you like today's card. Thank you, Larelyn and Cut It Up for allowing me to be a GD on your challenge blog a second time around. It sure was a pleasure. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Stitched Card

Hello! Belated Happy World Card Making Day! I always look forward to this day even if it is a work day (work night, I should say) for me. One of the events during WCMD that I love to participate in is the Doodlebug Design's WCMD challenges. They have several challenges and the Stitch It Up Challenge is my most favorite. If you have been following me, you know that this is within my alley since I love to stitch.

I trimmed the B side of the Doodlebug Design Dragon Tails Cobblestones patterned paper to a little over 4" x 4". I poked holes where the triangle meet. I did a running stitch on these holes using DMC embroidery floss. I used colors of embroidery floss that coordinates with the colors of the triangle.

For the card base, I used a trifold card from the Doodlebug Design Cards & Envelopes Hello Assortment. On the small flap of this note card, I die cut the word thanks. The die I used is from Paper Smooches. The die created holes which can be left as is or since these are holes, it gave me an opportunity to add stitching to it.

I adhered the stitched panel to the larger flap of the trifold card. The short end of this trifold card, where I stitched the thanks has a notch. I trimmed this off since I did not want the stitched panel to be covered.

I added Doodlebug Design gray sequins to the stitched panel. I topped this with blue gems.

Thank you for dropping by. I hope you like today's card. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Doodling with Stencil to Create Faux Wax Seals with a Bonus Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project features one of the many creative ways in using a stencil. I created faux wax seals using the Waffle Flower Wax Seal die. As much as I am fascinated with this craft, I have not invested on the supplies needed for it. I settled with the alternative way of creating wax seals with use of the die set and embossing powder.

On different shades of red cardstock, which are mostly from my paper stash, I traced the mushroom using the Blank Page Muse Cute Muhrooms Stencil. I used gold glitter gel pens with different tip sizes. I added details to the mushrooms by adding dots and lines.

I die cut the layers of the wax seal on red cardstock. I adhered the layers together. I blended gold dye ink on the top most layer of the wax seal. To make this into a faux wax seal, I embossed the wax seal using Versamark ink and Wow! Ultra High clear embossing powder. These wax seals are now ready for use. You can adhere this on the flap of an envelope or use it to embellish your project. You can use other stamp images and die cuts in place of the mushroom as long as it fits the circular space of the wax seal die cut.

With the layered die cutting of the wax seals, I came up with all these circle die cuts. Instead of adding it to my circle die cut stash, I created a matching card for the wax seals.

I repeated the process of drawing the mushroom with the use of the stencil, and adding details to the mushrooms. I drew the mushroom on the red circle die cuts.

For the card panel, I trimmed a kraft cardstock at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I used a stamp from the BPM Scribble & Scratch Mixed Media Set 2 to add a subtle background to the panel. I used a kraft dye ink to stamp the image.

I adhered the circle left over die cuts to this panel. I adhered a small x die cut in between the circles to mimic stitching in between the circles. The x was die cut on matte gold cardstock. The die I used is from Paper Smooches.

For the sentiment, I die cut this on matte gold cardstock using a die from Concord & 9th. I layered this die cut sentiment with another die cut for a bit of dimension.

I hope you like today's project. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Graduation Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. My 2nd son is graduating high school this Sunday. So excited for him on this milestone.

The background panel involves a lot of die cutting. I die cut the plaid cover panel on an ink blended background. I pieced in some of the square negative cuts to provide contrast to the white sentiment die cuts. The words and numbers are die cut in multiples and adhered on top of each other for some dimension.

I enjoyed creating this project a lot since it is a mash up of cardmaking (based on the supplies used and the size), and scrapbooking. I think this is something doable for me compared to the large scale scrapbook layout.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Trifold Spinner Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. This month's challenge is on Funfolds +/or Summer Fun. Thank you to TLC Designs for sponsoring this challenge. I linked the image I used on this card below.

What I like about digital stamps is you can mirror the image easily. You can also resize the image depending on your project.

This trifold card also has a window cut on the folded front piece to add interest to the layout. Below is a short video showing the toucan spinning.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you join our latest challenge at Incy Wincy. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Autumn Inspired Slimline Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our challenge theme for this month is Autumn Harvest and/or Houses. Our sponsor for this challenge is Alex Syberia Design. I linked the image I used on this card below.

I printed the image on heavyweight white cardstock. I colored the image using several mediums (Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, Zig Clean Color Waterbrush and Karin markers.) Since I am not using a watercolor paper, I am doing a dry watercolor technique. I fussy cut the image leaving a white border around it. I added Tim Holtz Antique Linen watercolor crayon to the white spaces to mute the stark white.

I trimmed a Hero Arts Plum cardstock at 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" for the front panel. I added the embossed frame with the use of a mat. The slimline frame die is from the Trinity Stamps Frame and Fold die.

The layout is inspired by the sketch below from Scrapbook & Cards. I die cut patterned papers from Echo Park Fall Fever 6x6 paper pad using one of the rectangles from the Hero Arts Infinity Rectangle dies. I picked some ephemera from the same line and from the Simple Stories Autumn Splendor. I played around with the elements that will complete my layout until I am satisfied with how it looks. I inked the edges of the rectangle patterned paper die cuts using an ink that matches the color of the patterned paper. I inked the hexagonal ephemera too.

I adhered the rectangle patterned paper die cuts to the plum panel, then adhered the ephemera, adding some metallic embellishments. I heat embossed a postage stamp from the Simple Stories Autumn Splendor stamp set to the right lower rectangle patterned paper. I used a Ranger Copper embossing powder for this.

I die cut the sentiment on the colored digital image. I heat embossed the sub-sentiment using a brown dye ink and clear embossing powder. I adhered a copper glittered paper to the back of the colored digital image which shows through the holes created by the sentiment die. I adhered this to the panel using foam adhesive.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you join our latest challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Pop-Up Vase Card and Mini Note Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I got busy this week creating this paper gift for a special person to my son who is celebrating her birthday today. I created a similar project before (Pop-Up Vase Card), but I used a different flower die and I only had 3 flowers in the vase since I created more than one Pop-Up Vase.  This time, I created a Pop-Up Vase with 12 flowers in the vase.

I am using the HoneyBee Stamps Tulips Lovely Layers Honey Cuts. There are 3 flowers that can be created using this set. I am using the Closed Tulip. The recipient's favorite color is light blue. I die cut the layers on light blue cardstock. I inked some of the layers to add more depth to the tulip when layered. I die cut an extra piece of the base/solid layer.

I die cut the leaf base and detailed leaf on green cardstock, die cutting the detailed leaf on a darker green cardstock. I die cut three pieces of the leaf base for each flower. Yes, 36 pieces, that's  a lot but you will find out why in a minute. I adhered two leaf base die cuts on top of each other.

Putting the tulip layers together, I followed the layering guide sent by HoneyBee. I am using a strong liquid adhesive for this project. I adhered the leaf base to the back of the layered tulip. I thought two layers of the leaf base will be sturdy enough for the layered tulip but I felt that the leaf base is flimsy, so I adhered another leaf base layer. This is when extra die cuts come in handy.

To cover the stem, I adhered another tulip base layer to the back. I repeated this process until I came up with 12 tulips. I spritz some shimmer spray on the tulips. I set this aside to dry.

For the vase, there is a die set available in the market that cuts the vase base and the holding tabs. The die set also includes dies to decorate the vase. I don't have that die set so I created my own vase. I am using a heavy weight white cardstock for the vase base and the holding tabs. For the vase base, I cut the cardstock at 5 1/2" x 3", and scored it at 1 1/4", 2 1/2", 3 3/4" and 5". I cut 2 pieces of this. For the holding tab, I cut the cardstock at 3 1/2" x 1", and scored it at 1/2", 1 3/4" and 3". I cut 4 pieces of this.

To assemble this, I added a strong double sided adhesive to the tabs of the vase base. I adhered the tab to the other base, and adhered the other tab to the other end. Now, we have a sort of an octagon closed vase base.

For the holding tabs, I switched to my strong liquid adhesive so I can have a bit of wiggle time while positioning these tabs. With the tabs folded inward, I added liquid adhesive to the side of the tab facing the vase base. I adhered one tab making sure that the fold is aligned to the fold of the octagonal vase base. Skipping one vase fold, I adhered the other tab aligning again the tab fold with the vase fold. If my explanation sounds confusing, I highly recommend Jennifer McGuire's video tutorial for a more visual explanation.

Flatten the vase to train the folds of the pop-up vase since this vase is intended to be placed inside an envelope.

Now, it's time to adhere the flowers. I added liquid glue to the tip of the stems and adhered the flowers to the holding tab. I flatten the vase each time I added a flower. The flowers should be facing one way to be able to flatten the vase. Once, all the flowers are adhered, I flattened this again and applied something heavy over it while the glue dries.

This Pop-Up Vase can fit in an A7 envelope so it will be helpful to use it as a guide when adhering the flowers. Try to keep it within the envelope size so it will fit the envelope. The tulips are not that long so this was not a problem for me.

To embellish the vase, I trimmed a Grafix platinum vellum at 3/4" x 3". I used a sticker maker to add adhesive to the back of the vellum. I adhered this to each fold of the vase. I chose vellum to prevent adding more bulk to the vase when folded.

I die cut a holographic cardstock with a 3D bow die from HoneyBee Gift Card Present Box Honey Cuts.   The holographic cardstock, unlike a colored cardstock, has a brown underside. The tail of the bow is cut with the underside of the cardstock showing once assembled. Since I still want the holographic cardstock to show, I partially die cut the bow tail and adhered it to the bow tail with the brown underside showing.

I adhered the 3D bow to the front of the vase.

For the sentiment, I die cut a white cardstock with a stitched rectangle die from Simon Says Stamp. I partially die cut the cardstock so I can extend its length making the sentiment fit.

I heat embossed the sentiment to the rectangular die cut. The sentiment is from Paper Smooches. I am using Wow! Primary Blue Topaz Embossing Powder. I adhered this to the front of the card, underneath the 3D bow.

With the 3D Bow, there is a chance that the 3D bow will flatten if I put this in an envelope. I created an envelope that will fit the dimension of the Pop-Up Vase especially the 3D Bow. This video by Wandy's Sweets is very helpful that I used her technique in creating my envelope. After I cut the base of the envelope, I rounded the envelope tips using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board. After I adhered the bottom part of the envelope, I cut a slit on the top and bottom edges of the envelope, on the closed side, so I can thread a ribbon through it which will be my closure mechanism for the envelope.

Well, the Pop-Up Vase does not really give you an opportunity to write a personal message to the recipient. I created a matching mini note card for this purpose. I die cut a white cardstock using a note card die from the Tritiny Stamps Frame and Fold Slimline die set. Instead of vellum, I die cut a light gray cardstock using the stitched rectangle die included in the die set. I spritz the gray panel with shimmer spray. After determining the placement of the flower, I heat embossed a sentiment using the same supplies I used on the Pop-Up Vase. I adhered the gray panel to the note card, then adhered the tulip. I also added some blue sequins.

Below is a video showing how the Pop-Up Vase is revealed once it is taken out of the envelope.

I apologize for the long tutorial. As you can see, this is a big project created for a speical occasion. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!

Sketch Inspired Shaker Graduation Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this card for the latest Newton's Nook Challenge. I colored the cat with Cali, one of my sister's cats, as the inspiration. I don't have a graduate this year but in the next two years, I will. Might as well start early, right?

I stamped the image on white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The image is from Newton Nook's Netwon's Graduation stamp set. I colored the image with Copic markers, adding black Wink of Stella to the graduation hat. I also added some white gel pen accents. For the rolled diploma, I added some Ranger Glossy Accents to the band. I die cut this into a circle using a die from the My Favorite Things Circle Stax dies. To mute the bright white, I blended some Tim Holtz Antique Linen. I die cut a gold cardstock using a die from the Paper Smooches Pinked Circles die set to matte the stamped circle die cut.

For the panel, I created a shaker film strip using a film strip punch. I punched several black cardstocks. The punch I am using creates the punch on an edge of the paper. Using a paper trimmer, I trimmed it off to create it into a strip. I adhered small pieces of acetate to one of the punched film strips. I built some dimension by adhering the film strip over the other. Lining up the holes is kind of tricky. I poured some gold confetti on the wells, and sealed it shut with a patterned paper from the Doodlebug The Graduates 6x6 patterned paper. There were three shaker wells created on the film strip but two of it got covered by the pinked circle die cut.

To complete the sketch, I adhered various patterned papers to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" scrap piece of cardstock. I adhered the shaker film strip, then adhered the pinked circle adding foam so that it won't sag since the film strip has some dimension.

For the sentiment, I die cut a black cardstock using a die from the Lawn Fawn Fancy Folded Banner die set. I heat embossed the sentiment, which is from the same stamp set, using white embossing powder. I adhered this to the left bottom edge of the panel.

For the string, I created a tassel using a DMC Diamant Metallic Thread in Metallic Gold & Black. I wrapped the same thread several times on the top edge of the panel. I secured this with tape on the back. I tied the tassel to the left. I squired a dot of glue to secure the knot of the tassel and keep it steady on that upper left part of the panel.

I added several metallic black pearls from Studio Katia for additional accents.

Sketch Inspired Christmas Card (Craft My Stash #22)

Hello! Welcome back to my Craft My Stash series in which I feature my oldie but goodie craft products. It has been a long time since I last added a post in this series. I am just so glad to get back on the swing of things.

I also created this card for the following reasons:

  • To join in the Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge on Flowers.
  • To join in My Favorite Stamps Sketch Challenge.
  • To join Simon Says Monday Challenge on Add Texture.
I started off by choosing my patterned papers from Pebbles Merry Merry paper pad. I die cut a brown patterned paper using the MFT Die-namics Mason Jar Mug. I have scraps of mason jar mug die cuts which I adhered to the back of the brown mason jar mug die cut for some dimension. I inked the edges with a brown dye ink. I keep those scraps inside the die sleeve. You never know when it can come in handy.

I snipped a part of the cut apart paper from the same paper pad. I trimmed off a part of the edges and rounded the corners to make it fit the mason jar. I applied shimmer to some of the flowers using clear Spectrum Noir shimmer pen.

For the panel, I trimmed a dotted green patterned paper from the paper pack into 4 1/4". The length does not really matter because I will die cut a stitched curved line into this using the Mama Elephant Borderline Trios Creative Cuts. For the background panel, I trimmed a green cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I am trying out Jennifer McGuire's technique on Adding Color with Embossing Folder but I only have Perfect Pearl to use so there is not much of an impact to the embossed panel other than adding shimmer to some areas. I adhered the curved patterned paper to the top left of this panel.

For the poinsettia, I die cut this on red pearl cardstock using Paper Smooches Merry Motif die set. I secured the die cut to the negative cut with tape. I stamped the matching image to the die cut using a red dye ink. Since the paper is glossy, I stamped it several times for a darker impression. I set this aside to dry. For the leaf, I die cut this on green pearl cardstock using Concord & 9th Lace Leaf die set. I stamped the matching leaf on this using a darker colored green ink. I set this aside to dry.

For the sentiment, I got inspired by a Pebbles glittered sticker sheet so I re-created this using the Mama Elephant In Line Letters stamp set. I used the Misti Stamping Tool so I can re-stamp the letters just in case I did not get a good impression the first time I stamp it. I stamped the letters on white cardstock using Versamark ink. I poured Ranger Red Tinsel embossing powder to the letter, then heat embossed it. I fussy cut the letters, leaving a small white border around it.

For the sub-sentiment, I heat embossed this on white cardstock using white embossing powder. The stamp is from Mama Elephant Happy Everything stamp set. I trimmed this into a skinny strip.

I adhered the mason jar to the center of the panel, a little more to the top to leave space on the bottom for the sentiment. I adhered the poinsettia and leaves next to the mason jar, tucking some of it under the mason jar. I adhered the letters next, using the dot embossing as a guide in lining it up straight. I adhered the sentiment strip after. I zhuzh the flowers and the leaves for some dimension.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!
