Easter Scene Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. It will be Easter in a week. This occasion inspired me to create today's card for the BPM blog.

I am also trying out a new coloring technique, which is using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons direct to rubber stamp. I have watched videos on the same technique but instead of distress crayons, watercolor crayons were used. Since distress crayons are water reactive, it produced the same artsy image. The stamps I used are from the Blank Page Muse Woodlands Art rubber stamps. There are lots of cute images included in this stamp set. 

I cut the eggs using the Cricut machine on light weight cardstock. I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide sprays and stains to smoosh the color to the eggs. I dried the eggs in between coloring using a heat gun so I can smoosh the egg again using the residual ink on the craft mat.

The letters were die cut using the My Favorite Things Spell Anything Alphabet Die-namics. I die cut this on white cardstock.

I trimmed a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" white cardstock for the card panel. I added heat embossed clouds by pouncing the Versamark ink on the Blank Page Muse Clouds & Drops 5x5" Mixed Media stencil. To make sure I only apply ink to the cloud that I would like to use for my scene, I covered the other stencil openings with a Post-it note. 

I blended Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks (Salty Ocean and Speckled Egg) to color the sky. This is when the embossed clouds pop since it resisted the ink.

I fringed a wide strip of green paper using an Ellen Hutson die. I adhered this to the bottom edge of the card panel. I adhered the trees, then tucked in the eggs to the fringed grass.

I adhered the bunny next. Isn't the bunny adorable as it looks at the eggs like it is its work of art? 

I embossed the word easter using brown and sticky inks. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn. I partially stamp the sentiment since I only need the word easter. I fussy cut this embossed sentiment leaving a small border around it. I adhered this to the fringed grass to complete this card's customized sentiment.

Cats, Sketch and Colored Inspired Christmas Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. My card is full of inspiration. The most important inspiration is my sister's cats, Tisoy and Bibi. I always try to color any cat images with these two in mind. I also pulled my inspiration from two ongoing challenges which I linked below.

The stamps I am using for this card is from Ink Blot Shop. When I saw these cat stamp images, I fell in love with it right away. I am so glad that I have acquired this stamp set during the Thanksgiving sale. 

I used Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain, Distress Ink and Distress Crayons for my coloring mediums. I used a Mica paint for the green cat embellishments. I used a Mica spray for the splatters.

Christmas Critters

Fringed Background Greeting Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this card to join in Newton's Nook latest challenge which I linked below. The card idea I have for the challenge is too hard to pass up. Thankfully, I finished this card on time for the challenge.

I am using crepe paper for the fringe background. I used a fringe die for this. For the oval piece, I adhered the yellow fringe die cuts to a scrap piece of paper before die cutting this panel with an oval die. For the rectangular panel, I added small dots of glue to the fringe die cuts. I adhered it to a yellow cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I poked holes on the upper portion of the fringe, and add sewing details using a gold embroidery floss. I layered the fringes starting from the bottom piece. I was going to use my sewing machine to sew the fringes to the cardstock but it was not cooperating so I just handsew it. 

For the image, I stamped the koala on a watercolor cardstock. I colored this with watercolor crayons. I fussy cut the image leaving a white border around it. The koala is from the Newton Nook's Pina Coala stamp set.

For the sentiment, I stamped this on a strip of watercolor paper. I add a wash of color to match the color of the fringes. I die cut these sentiments using a banner die. The sentiments are from the NN Pina Coala stamp set and the NN Summer Treats stamp set. 

I adhered the die cuts and the image to the panel using a strong liquid adhesive.

Autumn Inspired Slimline Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our challenge theme for this month is Autumn Harvest and/or Houses. Our sponsor for this challenge is Alex Syberia Design. I linked the image I used on this card below.

I printed the image on heavyweight white cardstock. I colored the image using several mediums (Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, Zig Clean Color Waterbrush and Karin markers.) Since I am not using a watercolor paper, I am doing a dry watercolor technique. I fussy cut the image leaving a white border around it. I added Tim Holtz Antique Linen watercolor crayon to the white spaces to mute the stark white. 

I trimmed a Hero Arts Plum cardstock at 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" for the front panel. I added the embossed frame with the use of a mat. The slimline frame die is from the Trinity Stamps Frame and Fold die. 

The layout is inspired by the sketch below from Scrapbook & Cards. I die cut patterned papers from Echo Park Fall Fever 6x6 paper pad using one of the rectangles from the Hero Arts Infinity Rectangle dies. I picked some ephemera from the same line and from the Simple Stories Autumn Splendor. I played around with the elements that will complete my layout until I am satisfied with how it looks. I inked the edges of the rectangle patterned paper die cuts using an ink that matches the color of the patterned paper. I inked the hexagonal ephemera too.

I adhered the rectangle patterned paper die cuts to the plum panel, then adhered the ephemera, adding some metallic embellishments. I heat embossed a postage stamp from the Simple Stories Autumn Splendor stamp set to the right lower rectangle patterned paper. I used a Ranger Copper embossing powder for this.

I die cut the sentiment on the colored digital image. I heat embossed the sub-sentiment using a brown dye ink and clear embossing powder. I adhered a copper glittered paper to the back of the colored digital image which shows through the holes created by the sentiment die. I adhered this to the panel using foam adhesive.

Create a Frame Using a Large Stamp

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I got my inspiration for today's card from Newton's Nook's latest challenge blog which I linked below. I can't keep myself from joining the challenge. This is one of my favorite challenge blogs.

I cut my card base at 9" x 4 1/2". I scored this at 4 1/2" on the long side to create a top folding square card.  I stamped the sentiment on all the sides of the card front using a sentiment stamp from Newton's Nook Birthday Roundabout stamp set. I used a light gray ink to stamp this sentiment but I want the color to be lighter, so I used the second generation ink. I had to repeat this second generation stamping twice or thrice, depending on the impression I got. Thanks to the Misti Stamping Tool, it made the re-stamping very easy. Since I stamped the sentiment on the edge and since I am using the Misti, I simply rotated the card to stamp the sentiment on all sides.

I stamped the large round stamp on the center of the card front using a darker gray ink. This stamp is also from the NN Birthday Roundabout stamp set. Thanks again to the Misti, I was able to re-stamp this large stamp since I missed a couple of spots on my first try. I blended the lighter gray ink on the center of the stamped image. I set this aside so I can work on the other elements of my card.

I stamped the same large round stamp on Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I heat set this to speed dry it. You can use any circle die to die cut the stamped impression but I wanted to add details so I fussy cut the outer edge of the large round stamped impression leaving a white border around it. 

Now, it's time to create this into a frame. I traced a circle on the center using a smaller circle die. I also made sure that the circle I am using is large enough for the cat image to fit in. I used my craft knife to create an opening on the center, then used my sharp pointy scissors to fussy cut and create the frame window. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Tattered Rose Oxide ink on the frame. 

For the focal image, I stamped the cat on Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onxy Black ink. The image is from Newton's Nook Loves Cake stamp set. I heat set this to speed dry it. I colored the image using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, following the colors of the cupcake in the inspiration photo. I fussy cut the image, cutting it near the outline, then running a black marker around the fussy cut image.

I added dimension to the frame using a scrap piece of a circle frame die cut that fits on the back which does not show through the front. I adhered this using liquid glue, then adhered it to the front of the card, lining the images so it will match its layout. I applied liquid glue to the back of the stamped cat and tucked it to the inside bottom frame.

I added details to the frame and background using pink and glittered pens in my stash.

To fill the space in between the sentiments, I stamped several confettis using the Tim Holtz Distress Bundled Sage Oxide ink. As last step, I rounded the corners.

Distress Crayon Colored Image And French Knot Frame Card

Hello! Welcome to another challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our theme for this challenge is All Creatures Great And Small +/Or Spotted Paper. 

I printed the image on Strathmore Watercolor paper using my Canon PIXMA TS9521C. The printer settings I used are Photo Printer on Glossy Photo Paper to hopefully limit the bleeding when I color the image. There is some ink bleeding but very minimal.

The color medium I chose for this project is the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons. It has been a long time since I last used this medium. What prompted me to use it is seeing the Tim Holtz Distress Pearlescent Crayons at my local craft store. I was very tempted to purchase a set but decided to hold back and use my old Distress Crayons just to have a feel for it again.

I don't have luck with direct to paper use of these crayons. I usually end up with smudges since I have a hard time blending out the concentrated pigment once it is on the paper. Somehow it has its purpose with adding texture to the coloring but if I am not going for this look, then it has this harsh look. What usually works for me is to pick the pigment from the crayon with a water brush.

Working on the card panel, I cut a yellow cardstock into 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I die cut a printed tissue paper from Cosmo Cricket using an Ellen Hutson fringe die from the Never Ending Fringe die set. I trimmed the colored panel, then adhered it to the center of the yellow cardstock panel. I adhered the fringed die cuts around the colored panel to frame it. I had to trim off about a 1/4" from some of the fringe die cuts to create a slimmer trim for the fringe die cuts. 

I added holes around the colored frame using the straight die from the Altenew String Art Rectangles die set. I reinforced the holes by poking a piercer through it. I did french knots through each hole using a glittered DMC floss. After I have covered all the holes with french knots, I went back and did a running stitch through the holes to add a stitched frame to the colored image. 

My sentiment is from Hero Arts. I heat embossed this on a green vellum using white embossing powder. I die cut this using a die from the Lawn Fawn Fancy Folded Banners die set. I adhered this with a clear foam tape on the back of the banner. 

This panel was adhered to a top folding A2 notecard.

Tim Holtz Distress Crayon Colored Digi.

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our challenge theme is Coffee/Tea Time Challenge. I am late in posting my creation. I struggled with bleeding while coloring my chosen image. I thought I won't be able to salvage it anymore but I am glad I set the image aside. When I came back to it, somehow, I have a different perspective of my colored image. I was able to fix the areas of coloring that I did not like. I did not have to color another image to replace this one.

I used my ink jet printer to print the image on Bristol paper which was not a good combination if you are going to use a water-based color medium. I think the smoothness of the Bristol has to do with the reactivation of the printer ink. I have used watercolor on an ink jet printed image before but I used watercolor paper at that time. I did not have problems with bleeding while coloring compared to this image on Bristol paper.

I used Tim Holtz Distress Crayons on my image. I was picking up the color from the crayon using a water brush. At times, I will carefully apply the color direct to the image, then blend it out using the waterbrush. If I colored out of the line, I rub my finger to the area to take the color away. It is kind of cool on how easy to fix mistakes using this color medium.

I tried looking for a video tutorial on using these crayons on coloring images. I was not successful in finding one. Most of the videos I've seen using this product is on creating colored backgrounds. If you know of one, please feel free to put the link in the comment section. I would love to watch it and learn from it.

I fussy cut the image leaving a white border around it, then set this aside. For the panel, I cut a Doodlebug patterned paper by 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I trimmed this into two sections. I die cut a window on the top section using Pretty Pink Posh Window Frames die. On the positive die cut, I positioned the smaller window die and ran this thru my Sizzix die cut machine to create a frame to piece in on the window using the reverse side of the patterned paper.

I adhered the frame to a Recollections lattice paper. I adhered a Grafix Platinum paper to the back of this. I pieced in the larger window panel, and adhered this to a top folding white note card.

For the bottom panel, I adhered this to the bottom part of the note card with foam tape. I adhered the digital image next with foam tapes to the top part, and liquid glue to the leg part.

For the sentiment, I die cut a speech bubble from the Lawn Fawn Selfie die set. I had to do partial die cutting to create a bigger speech bubble to accommodate the sentiment. The sentiment I am using is from Simon Says Stamp SimplyBrewing stamp set. I stamped the sentiment with a colored dye ink using the Misti Stamping Tool so I can re-stamp the sentiment with Versamark ink, then heat emboss it using clear embossing powder. I adhered the speech bubble on the same Grafix platinum paper, and fussy cut it leaving a small border around it to create a matted look.

Watercoloring using Distress Crayons

Have you seen the Newton's Nook new release? After seeing the release, I got so inspired to create this card for their Inky Paws Challenge.

I stamped the image from Newton's Book Club on Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I created a scene by extending the bookshelf to fill one of the boxes in the sketch. I partly inked the right side of the stamp, wiping off the ink that touched the cat, and stamped this on the same paper. I  used a Pilot Envelope Address Writing Gel Pen to write any lines that did not got stamped too well, and also to extend the lines of the book and the shelf.

I am using the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons today. I had this stashed for a while. It is about time to have fun with these coloring medium. I used a water brush to pick the color from the tip of the crayon. I did a wet to dry technique of watercoloring with these crayons.

The sentiment is from Newton Nook's A Cozy Day In stamp set. I stamped this on the same paper and using the same ink. I smooshed this on some TH Distress Ink Antique Linen spritzed with water, then re-smooshed it on TH Distress Oxide Vintage Photo. I wished I have an Antique Linen DO but since I don't, I used my DI. I was going for a bolder color that's why I used Vintage Photo.

To create the window panel, I cut it first on a spare cardstock. This allows me to see any errors in the lay-out of the window cuts. I then tape this to the actual paper I'll be using for the card. This served as a guide in cutting the windows with the aid of a ruler and a cutter. The patterned paper I am using is from Doodlebug. After all the windows were cut, I lined the edges of the windows with a black marker to hide the white core of the patterned paper. I trimmed a thin strip of gold cardstock. I embossed this with a  Lawn Fawn Stitched Border die. I adhered this to the window panel, on the bottom edge.

I adhered foam adhesive to the back of the window panel. I trimmed the stamped images to the foam adhesive, making sure that it is centered through the window opening. I adhered this to another patterned paper from Doodlebug measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". I inked the edges of this paper with gold Umbrella dye ink.

I applied Spectrum Noir to the sentiment window for some shimmer. I adhered this panel to a top folding A2 sized note card.

Scrapbook Page for Altenew Sketch Challenge

I have not scrapbooked for a long time. I think I have created more cards than scrapbooking layouts. I sure miss scrapbooking for I think this tells one’s story, something to cherish. I am so glad that Altenew has its own Scrapbooking blog, with a challenge, too! This will definitely motivate me to scrapbook some more.

I stamped the flowers and leaves from the Altenew Hennah Elements stamp set on Strathmore watercolor paper. I used several mediums to color the images. I would like to achieve varied shades of pink and yellow which I think I will achieve if I use different mediums. I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide, Tim Holtz Distress ink pads, Tim Holtz Distress crayons, and Zig Color Clean marker. I was having so much fun experimenting that on the leaves, I mixed TH Distress Oxide Peeled Paint and TH Distress ink Mowed Lawn to color the leaf image. I dried the colors with a heat tool then sprayed Pearl Perfect Pearl diluted in water over it.

I fuzzy cut the images and lined the edges with a black marker to hide the white core of the watercolor paper. I have 14 flowers total as the same number of circles in the layout sketch. To add more variation to the flowers, I fuzzy cut the flowers even more to make it smaller. I didn’t want to waste the cut off flower petals so I glued this to the back of the medium-sized flower.

I die cut the photos using a Mama Elephant stitched rectangular frame die. The border is from the same Altenew stamp set. I stamped this on green cardstock using Versamark ink. I heat embossed this using Ranger Antiquities Verdigris embossing powder. This stamp came very handy for my layout. I cut the embossed strip in half using the lines on the design as a guide. In this way, I came up with two strips to adhere to the top and bottom edges of the photos.

I am using an Ellen Hutson Wood grain cardstock for my layout. I sprayed and splattered this white cardstock with Perfect Pearl Sour Apple diluted for more shimmer. I also splattered some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Peeled Paint on some areas.

Do you remember when brads are such a craze? I still have my own stash of brads. I don’t have a yellow and pink brad for the flowers so I colored these brads with Copic markers. I poked the holes and attached the big flowers using the brads. I used Glue Dots to adhere the rest of the flowers.

The sentiment is from Altenew Super Script stamp set. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I heat embossed this using black embossing powder. I fuzzy cut the sentiment leaving a small white border around the letters. I stamped the small sentiments on vellum strips using the same ink & heat embossing it as well with clear embossing powder.

I really had fun with this project. I am looking forward to creating more. Now I have something to add to our family album showcasing our last year’s summer vacation.
