Happy Fall Card with Foiling

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card features the hot foiling technique using the Spellbinder Glimmer Machine. I tend to forget to do this technique and to use my Spellbinder Glimmer Machine. I have a tiny craft space so a lot of my crafting gadgets are put back on its box after its use. Yes, I keep this machine inside the box together with its accessorries and its other related supplies. It just helps me stay organized. Each time I have to use it, I have to get it out of the box, machine and all. 

My card is inspired by a sketch from Scrapbook & Cards as seen below.

I just changed the orientation of the panel and also the occasion, from winter to fall. Although, this sketch is recommended for a scrapbook layout, it does not mean, I cannot use it for a card, right?

I pulled out different colors of cardstock from my stash. I picked which colors I will be using for the background and for the leaves. 

I used the Trinity Stamps Autumn Rainbow Cut & Foil Die Set on this card. This set has 8 leaf foil pieces and its matching die. To make my foiling experience easy, I created a foiling template by die cutting the leaves on a carstock. 

I die cut the leaves when these dies are still unsnipped from each other. I laid this template on the Glimmer Hot Foil Plate with its corner lined with a grid on the plate. I did this before I fed this through the die cutting machine.

I positioned the leaf foiling pieces on the plate, matching the leaf foil piece with the opening of the cardstock template. You will notice on the photo that the Glimmer machine has the green light on which means it is hot. The Glimmer machine came with a magnet accessory to move the metal plates. Use this and don't get burned! You can also use a craft pick to move the metal pieces.

I carefully removed the cardstock template. I cut a cardstock big enough to cover all of the leaves. I cut the foil at the same size. I recommend this or have the foil smaller than the cardstock to prevent transferring the foil to the spacer plate. I repeated this process with the rest of the cardstock.

Once the plate blinks green, it is time to carefully remove the plate from the base and run it through the die cutting machine. 

 

I used a Sizzix machine for the foiling. Although, the foil transferred, adding a cardstock to the sandwich gave better results as you can see on the above photos. The photo on the left is foiling without an additional cardstock for a shim, and the photo on the right is foiling with an added cardstock for a shim.

Unfortunately, I have to snip the coordinating dies from each other since it is the mirror image of the foil plate that gets transferred to the paper. I matched the dies with the foiled image. To keep the arrangement of the dies intact, I applied a shelf liner on top of the dies. After running this through the die cut machine, I carefully removed the die cuts. I repositioned this on the next foiled cardstock panel. Some of the dies may not match the foiled impression but for the most part, it did. I just fixed the dies that are not on the right spot.

I die cut the burlap on a dark purple cardstock using the Honey Bee Stamps Burlap Background Honey Cuts. I trimmed a salmony-orange cardstock at 5" x 6" (A4). I rarely create this card size but making it larger than A2 prevents overcrowding of the leaves.

I positioned the burlap die cut on the A4 panel. I arranged the leaves to create a frame, just like in the sketch. I adhered the leaves to the burlap. I only used the smaller leaves.

I adhered foam adhesive to the back of the burlap, behind the leaves. Before I adhered the burlap to the salmon cardstock panel, I adhered three of the big leaves to the panel just to add some shine that will show through the burlap.

I fiddled with the sentiment. I prefer a die cut sentiment so that the intricacy of the burlap will show through. For this reason, I just want my font size to be just right. Well, my alphabet dies are either too small or too big so I did a bit of die cut surgery to create my sentiment. The original sentiment die is 'BE HAPPY.' I trimmed the E to make it into an F and an L. 

I adhered the letters to the center portion of the burlap.

Challenge #122~Amazing Autumn

Trifold Christmas Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. It is the first of the month which means there is a new challenge at Stick It Down Scrapbook and Card Making Challenge in FB. There are three sketches to choose from. I hope you join.

This is my take on the card sketch as shown above. I used the Grinch in place of the flower. I partially die cut the large sentiment on the front of my card. For the diagonal stripes, I used holiday washi tapes from my stash with some of it having words printed on it. I also created a sentiment strip to supplement the message of the large sentiment. 

The Grinch is from a Kat Scrappiness stamp set. I want to thank Julie Patton for this stamp set which I won in her IG giveaway post. I stamped the Grinch on Ranger watercolor paper. I stamped this on the smooth side of the paper using Versafine Onxy black ink. I colored the image with a red and a green Lisa Horton Interference inks. I swiped the ink pad on a palette and picked the pigment with a paint brush. I painted the trim and the ornament with Finetec metallic watercolor. I fussy cut the image leaving a small border around it. 

I added a twist to the card design by making this card into a trifold card. The first fold is the diagonal stripe portion of the sketch, with the main sentiment partially die cut to this panel. The sentiment is very dainty so I used the shadow die of the sentiment instead. This sentiment die is from Trinity Stamps. I die cut the sentiment on matte gold cardstock. I have extra die cuts of this sentiment which I adhered to the back of the gold sentiment die cut to add dimension to the sentiment. I die cut the shadow of the sentiment on a shiny red washi tape adhered to a scrap cardstock. I die cut this using the shadow die and trimmed it halfway.

This panel has a 1/2" tab which I adhered to the inside of the card. 

For the middle fold, I rotated an A2 note card to have the fold on the right side. I trimmed a sliver off the open side so the sentiment panel will nestle nicely over the middle panel. 

I trimmed a patterned paper at 4" x 5 1/4". I blended green ink on the edges. I added stitching to the circle patterns using metallic DMC threads. I added stickers to some of the circles.

I positioned the Grinch in a way that it looks like he is stepping on the diagonal strips. I adhered a washi tape under the Grinch on the middle fold so it does not look like the Grinch is floating.

For the inner panel, I die cut a light weight white cardstock with a stitched die from Simon Says Stamp. Once adhered, it hides the flap of the first fold.

Spotlight Stitched Slimline Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project is a stitched card. The pattern I used is from Cross Stitch Floral Dreams by Durene Jones. The die I used is the Crafty Meraki Stitch-A-Cross slimline die. I used a Neenah Desert Storm cardstock for my stitching panel. 

There are 8 holes per inch on the stitching panel created by the die. Any design you use on this stitching panel will be enlarged. Finding a pattern that fits this stitching panel can be a challenge that's why I resort to spotlight stitching. This technique involves choosing a part of the pattern, usually the focal point of the pattern, to stitch on the stitching panel. 

Since the holes are large, I used 6 strands of DMC floss per stitch. I separate the strands from each other then put the strands together again before stitching. I just practiced this lately. It can be time consuming to do this especially when the strand gets knotted but this step makes a difference to the floss by making the stitch fluffy.

I die cut a slimline frame using a Trinity Stamp die on a darker kraft cardstock. I die cut two frames, adhered one on top of the other then adhered it to the stitched panel.

I stamped a sentiment form My Favorite Things Bitty Birthday Wishes stamp set on the same dark kraft cardstock using a purple dye ink. I die cut the sentiment into a strip using an Avery Elle die. I die cut five more pieces of strips and stacked in on top of each for dimension. I adhered the sentiment on the stitched panel. 

I adhered sequins to the stitched flowers for embellishment. I added Nuvo drops and Stickles to the centers of the sequins.

Sketch Inspired Christmas Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this card to join several blog challenges which I linked below. I also included the inspiration sketch at the bottom of this post. The paper products I used for this card is from Pebbles. 

The cup was created using a freebie die from Trinity Stamps. I love this die because it die cuts the cup outline leaving you with negative cuts that you can either not use or use and inlay it back to the outline cup. The negative pieces that I inlaid to the outline cup are washi tapes from the Pebbles paper collection. I adhered this to a white cardstock before strategically die cutting it using the outline cup die. I pieced it back to the outline cup securing it with transparent tape on the back. 

The poinsettia and candy canes are stickers from the paper collection. I adhered it to a white cardstock before fussy cutting it.

The bows were cut on gold mirror cardstock using dies from Waffle Flower.

I really enjoyed creating this card since I was able to use some of my craft stash stickers. I look forward to using more of my patterned paper stash.

Color Trend Christmas Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. For today's card, I am jumping in with the non-traditional Christmas color trend of pink and pastels. Do you like this trend or still go for the traditional Christmas colors? The colors are inspired by the latest Scrapbook and Cards Winter Issue Color Challenge as seen below. 

This is my second project featuring the Kat Scrappiness Buffalo Plaid Backdrop die. The previous post features the other card using this die. I enjoy using this die. This die offers a lot of possibilities.

This card involves a lot of die cutting. You can use a trimmer as an alternative to die cutting the squares.

After I die cut the plaid on dark pink cardstock, I built my background with more die cutting. I strategically die cut a light gray cardstock to fill in the dark pink squares on the plaid background die cut. When I say strategically die cut, since I only need the squares cut by the open square areas of the die, I positioned the paper near the edge of the die to cut that last line of the plaid. It is a lot of passing through the die cut machine, but this is the only way I know how to save paper and also cut the squares that perfectly fit in the openings of the die cut. I could have cut the backdrop on another colored cardstock, use the negative square cuts and saved the backdrops for later use but I need a lot of gray to fill the panel, so I opted to do my selective die cutting.

I die cut a light pink and a light blue cardstock to fill in the square openings of the background die cut. I also die cut a purple cardstock to fill in the back of the diagonal openings for a pop of color showing through the vent openings. 

After all the square die cutting, I adhered the gray square die cuts first over the dark pink squares. I adhered the purple squares on the back of the vented squares. I adhered the panel to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" scrap white cardstock. I adhered the light pink and light blue squares after, alternating the colors. 

For the sentiment, I die cut the word Merry on grape and light gray colored cardstock. The die is from My Favorite Things Merry and Bright with all the Trimmings die set. I adhered the grape letter die cuts on top of the gray letter die cuts, slightly off setting it. I applied shimmer to the letters with a clear Spectrum Noir shimmer pen. I added dots of Marvin Uchida Snow Marker to the letters to mimic snow that settled on the letters. I heat set this to make it puff up. I adhered this to a dark gray cardstock and trimmed it to size.

I die cut the word Christmas twice on the same dark gray cardstock. This sentiment die is from the Trinity Stamps Scripty Christmas die set. I adhered one sentiment die cut on top of the other for some dimension. I applied shimmer and snow to this sentiment die cut using the same technique I used on the word Merry. I die cut the shadow of the sentiment on light gray snowflake embossed paper. I spritz some pink and light blue shimmer spray on this die cut. I adhered the dark gray sentiment die cut on this.

I adhered the sentiments on the center of the plaid panel. I replaced the tiddle of the letter I with a die cut 3D bow die cut on pink mirror cardstock. The die is from Lawn Fawn Mini Wreath die set. I adhered this and added a clear gem on top of the bow.

I layered silver and holographic snowflake sequins to the squares on the top and bottom rows of the card for additional embellishment. To adhered sequins together, I recommend using Ranger Glossy Accent.

Wobbly Unicorn Pumpkin Shaker Card with Glow in the Dark

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. The title seems a lot to take but this card is loaded with interaction! It took me a while to create it since my creative juices seems to be in hiatus at the moment. Slowbut sure! I hope you like it.

I started off by die cutting a pumpkin on a cream cardstock. The pumpkin die is from the Honey Bee Patchwork Pumpkin Honey Cuts. I used the coordinating stencil to add some shadowing on the pumpkin. The ink I used is Tim Holtz Distress Antique Linen Oxide. 

For the unicorn, I am using the Pinkfresh Studio Magical Unicorn stamp set and coordinating die set which unfortunately, is retired. I stamped the horn on pink cardstock. I heat embossed this with pink embossing powder mixed with Wow! It Texture powder. With the powder just freshly melted, I poured Wow! Platinum Metallic Sparkle embossing powder to the area and heat set it again melting this powder into the pink powder. I repeated the process again one more time using the pink mix embossing powder.

I die cut the horn using the coordinating die. 

For the ears, I die cut this on cream and pink cardstocks. I inlaid the cream ear die cuts on the negative cuts on the pink cardstock, securing it with tape on the back. I trimmed this off with scissors using the ear die cuts as guide. 

For the flowers, I am using the Pretty Pink Posh Hugs stamp set and coordinating die set. I stamped the flowers on light pink, peach and orange cardstocks using matching embossing powders. I die cut the images using the coordinating dies. I colored the flowers using matching color pencils. 

I temporarily positioned the horn, ears and flowers to the pumpkin to figure out the placement of the eyes. I used the Misti Stamping Tool in stamping. I flipped the eyes upside down to give it a different look. After prepping the area, I stamped the eyes using Versafine Onyx black ink. I poured black embossing powder to this, then heat set it.

I started building the unicorn pumpkin by adhering the horn, the ears and the flowers. I added Pretty Pink Posh gems to the center of the flowers.

Working on the card front, I trimmed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white cardstock. I created this into a stitching frame using the Altenew String Art Rectangles die set and the Hero Arts Nesting Rectangle Infinity die set. I used the largest string art rectangle die and a rectangle die which fits inside this die. I secured these two dies together with tape, then ran this over the white cardstock through the die cutting machine. I threaded the floss through the holes. I used the DMC Variations Floss. I only partially added thread to the frame.

I trimmed a peach patterned paper at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I temporarily positioned the frame and the unicorn to give me an idea of where to stamp the greeting on the patterned paper. I used a corner of the Misti Stamp Tool to align the frame to the patterned paper. Once I was happy with the sentiment placement. I picked the stamp with door of the Misti, removed the frame, prepped the area, and stamped the sentiment on the patterned paper using Versamark ink. I poured Altenew Golden Peach Crisp embossing powder to this, then heat set it. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn Tiny Tag Sayings stamp set.

To turn the frame into a shaker, I adhered an acetate to the back using a thin double adhesive tape. I cut thin strips of adhesive foam and adhered this to the back of the frame. I prepped the sides of the foam with an anti-static powder tool to prevent the shakers from sticking to the side of the foam. I positioned this on one of the corners of the Misti Stamping Tool. I poured different kinds of shakers including the Trinity Glowing Sky Glow in the Dark embellishment mix. After I removed the release paper from the foam tape, I adhered the embossed patterned paper to seal the shaker card. I butted the patterned paper to the corner of the Misti where the shaker panel is also positioned.

I created another frame on pink cardstock using the Hero Arts Nesting Rectangle dies. I added details to this frame with Altenew Dotted Swirls Debossing die. I adhered this to the front. 

I adhered a wobbler to the back of the unicorn pumpkin, adding glue to the wobbler to make it more secure. I removed the release paper of the other end of the wobbler, added dots of glue to it, then adhered this to the acetate. 

The unicorn's horn and ear sometimes get caught in the embroidery floss when it is wobbled. But it is very easy to free the horn and/or the ear from the embroidery floss to wobble it again.

Negative Alphabet Die Cut Panel Birthday Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. This card is a left-over supply from a previous card I created using letter dies (Washi Tape Letter Die Cuts). When I made that card, I strategically die cut the letters so I can use the negative cuts left over by the letter die cuts. It took a while for me to come back to it but now, I was able to find time to finish it. I am glad that I did not lose any inner part of the letters.

This panel will not be needing a lot since it pretty much covers the whole front panel of the card. But to step it up, I created this into a shaker card. I adhered an acetate to the back of the negative die cut panel. I adhered the inside letter die cuts on the front of the acetate. I cut slim pieces of foam tape to create wells for each line of sentiment. 

For the shakers, I used the small dies included in the Trinity So Appreciative coordinating die set. Unfortunately, this stamp and die sets are already retired. Look at your stash. I am pretty sure you will find a small, shaped die that can take the place of the dies I used for this card. 

Like I mentioned, the dies I used have a coordinating stamp which I did not use on this card. The small, shaped dies can stand on its own. One of the die cuts looks like a crown but believe me, its coordinating stamp is not near of a crown image. But it works.

I die cut these dies on various cardstocks. It is a lot of work. If you don't want to do the die cutting, you can substitute this with sequins and/or gems.

Adhering the welled panel to a cardstock does not make the letters pop due to the busy pattern of the washi tape. To fix this, I die cut the letters on Gold and Curry Cardstocks using the same dies I used for the negative die cut panel, the Trinity Marshmallow Alphabet die set. Since these letters will show through the acetate, I need to align it with the letters on the negative die cut panel. I pieced the letters to the front panel. I picked the letters with a Glad Press-N-Seal to keep the placement intact. In hindsight, if I do this card again, I will adhere the letters to the back panel first using the negative cut panel as a guide before adhering the acetate to the back of the negative cut panel.

I added dots of glue to the back of the letters. I adhered the letters to a black cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", slightly offsetting it. I carefully peeled off the Glad Press-N-Seal, then run my hand over the letters to better adhere the letters to the panel. 

I added my shaker elements on top of the letters. Each line of sentiment has a different shaped die cut. I did not put a lot since I don't want the shakers to cover up the letters on the background. 

Since I cut both panels at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", lining it up was easy especially with the use of the Misti Stamping Tool.  

I embellished the front with the extra die cuts. I layered some of the die cuts for dimension. I painted the Curry die cuts with a gold shimmer pen. I added gems to the silver die cuts.
