Valentine Pop-up Interactive Card with Stickers

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this project to participate in the Paper Source Stuck On You Valentine's Day Card Making Contest. The only requirement is to use any sticker in the design to be considered to win. I just inherited some craft supplies from my coworker Christina. These are craft supplies of her late mother. I am very much impressed on how organized her mom was with her supplies. 

I chose some stickers from the stash which I used on this project. It will be a very nice way to remember her mom. Too bad, this project needs to be mailed to Paper Source because if not, I would have given it to Christina. 

I also used some left-over Paper Source stickers which I used on a Valentine's class giveaway project when my youngest son is still in 4th Grade. The sticker set has been been discontinued.

I usually sketch my design on my notebook especially when it involves a lot of products that comes from different manufacturers. It helps me organize my creative process, which part of the project I should make first.

The interactive portion of this pop-up card is the pull-out hearts from the mailbox. Most of the die cuts I used are from Lawn Fawn. 

I adhered the stickers back to back with the embroidery floss sandwiched in between the hearts. The back portion of the hearts is stamped with a message which you can partly see on the photo below. 

The heart stickers and flowers are from Christina's mom's craft stash.

I had to permanently glue the flag of the mailbox. I usually will add a brad to this to make it move but I am afraid that this will hinder the mechanism of the pull-out hearts if I use a brad. 

I thought I had a fence die but since I don't, I die cut these posts on white cardstock using a Hero Arts Wood Frame Infinity Die. I snipped one edge to have a triangular edge. I adhered the posts on a strip of white cardstock to connect the posts together to create the fence.

I added a mini note card on the back to write on. I adhered another stick from the Christina's mom's stash. I stamped a simple message on the front and added stitched embossing to the front. 

I added floating cloads on the back. The cloud frames were cut on white cardstock. I adhered it on acetate strips to make it float. 

The size of the platform card, when collapsed, goes beyond the size limits of A2 and A4 envelopes. I used the We R Keepers Envelope punch board to create an envelope for the pop-up card. I adhered more stickers to the inner flap. I wanted to jazz up the outside of the envelope but the last time I did that, it was rejected by the post office.

Happy New Year!

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I still needed to send out holiday cards but I don't think it will arrive on time so I decided to create cards to celebrate the the upcoming year. I got my inspiration from the this month's Lunar Year Challenge. 

I used a My Favorite Things number die set to die cut the numbers. The number die cuts an outline and the negative cut. Instead of putting the negative cut aside, I decided to do a two-for-one cards, interchanging the outlines and the negative cuts. 

I used the solid number die as the base of the numbers. I die cut this on black cardstock.

I die cut a red cardstock using a panel die from Catherine Pooler. I backed this with the same gold cardstock I used on the numbers.

I stamped the horse and the hat on watercolor paper using VersaFine Clair. I colored the images with a Marvy Uchida Color In Watercolor Twist Pencils. I used a water brush to pick up the pigment from the pencil then paint this on the images. I die cut the images using the coordinating die. The die cuts a small border around the stamped image. I snipped off the bottom part of the hat die cut so it looks more continuous when adhered to the horse.

Next year is the Year of the Horse which explains the image choice for my card.

I die cut a banner on red carstock using a die from Lawn Fawn. I used a Lawn Fawn alphabet die to spell out my sentiment. Although I have a sentiment stamp with this message, using the alphabet stamps allowed me to follow the curve of the banner. My alphabet stamps are over used that it does not stick to the acrylic block anymore. That can be frustrating especially when you are ready to stamp and an inked letter falls to your panel. Not to forget the effort you put in putting the letters together. Cleaning the back of the letter stamp on a stamp scrubber sprayed with a stamp cleaner will recondition the stick of the polymer. 

I inked the sentiment with an embossing ink. I poured gold embossing ink over the sticky ink then heat embossed it.

I adhered the die cuts to the panel. I adhered this panel to a top folding A2 note card.

Pink Christmas Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created a one layer card with minimal supplies and stitching. The stamps I used are from Lawn Fawn. I stamped the houses on kraft cardstock. I colored the houses with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. Very easy coloring since I only used two colors, red and brown.

I die cut the houses using the coordinating die. 

I stamped the word joy on white cardstock using a very light ink. I carefully poked holes on this following the outline of the stamped sentiment. I added stitching to these poked holes using a red metallic thread. I did a french knot to the tittle of the j. I die cut the stitched sentiment using the coordinating die. Yes, another bold move. Luckily, no stitch was undone.

For the sentiment, I stamped this on kraft cardstock. using Versamark ink. I poured red embossing powder to the sticky ink and heat set it. I cut this into a wide strip. I added details to the top and bottom edges with a x stitching details.

I cut a pink cardstock at 4 1/4 x 11 1/2". I scored this at 5 1/4" on the long side. I added details to the front using a dye from The Greetery. 

I adhered the sentiment strip on the front of the note card. I adhered the houses with a foam tape. I adhered the stitched sentiment to the panel.

Sketch Inspired Christmas Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. We have new sketch challenges at Stick It Down Scrapbook and Card Making Challenge in FB. It is easy to join having three options to choose from.

I used scraps from a 6x6 Lawn Fawn patterned paper pad for the arrow pennants. I trimmed the paper in 3/4" width with varying lengths. I used a We R Makers Corner Punch Chomper to created the arrow on one end. 

For the sentiment banner, I trimmed a green cardstock at 4 1/4" x 1". I made pencil marks on the center point of each of the short side and 1/4" from the corners. I cut off the corners to create the arrow edge using these marks as a guide. 

For the sentiment, I die cut a My Favorite Things sentiment die on a red patterned paper. I cut two more of it on red cardstock. I adhered the cardstock sentiment die cuts on the back of the patterned paper sentiment die cut to create dimension. I temporarily set this on the arrow banner so I can position the sentiment stamp for heat embossing. 

I pre-treated the stamping area with an anti-static powder before stamping the sentiment with Versamark ink. The stamp sentiment is from Lawn Fawn. I lightly pressed the sentiment stamp to the paper to prevent creating heavy and uneven impressions which can happen with acrylic stamps.

I poured white embossing powder to the sticky ink, then heat embossed it. I adhered the sentiment die cuts on top of this stamped sentiment. I drew a line border on the inside of the arrow banner using a white gel pen.

I adhered the arrow flags to the back of the arrow banner. I trimmed off any excess on the top. 

For the background panel, I embossed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white cardstock with a Simon Says Stamp 3D embossing folder.  I adhered the sentiment banner with the pennant to this.

I embellished the pennants with snowflake die cuts and sequins.

I adhered this to an A2 note card. 

Comparisons with my card and the sketch:

• I added arrow cuts to the sentiment strip so it will have the same cut edge as the pennants.
• I have a two lined sentiment compared to the one lined sentiment on the sketch. 
• The sketch's pennant has spaced and different lengths of pennants. My card also has varying lengths of pennants but I made the pennants longer and touching each other, some of which are slightly overlapping.
• I did not add a matte as on the sketch. I actually forgot about the matte. At this stage, I think I can still add a matte by carefully trimming the edges of the panel with the use of a craft knife. It will still be different from the sketch since I will let the banner and pennant extend to the matte. But I like the clean white space of the background so I just kept this panel as is.

String Rainbow Christmas Tree

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am on a Christmas card making spree since I was commissioned to make Christmas cards. Got to start early to be able to deliver. 

This card was inspired by the latest Lawn Fawn Challenge with the theme of Rainbows. I created a Christmas tree with rainbow strings.

I die cut the smallest tree die from the LF Stitched Christmas Tree Frames on a rainbow mirrow cardstock. I die cut an extra tree on a regular cardstock. I also die cut the star included in the set on gold mirror cardstock. 

I applied a 1/8" double adhesive tape to the back of the mirror tree die cut. I adhered the LF Unicorn Tail Sparkle Cord to the adhesive tape stretching the twine from the top to the bottom of the tree. Once I have filled up the opening of the tree frame with twine, I applied liquid glue to the back side of the tree frame then adhered the other tree frame die cut over it. This will help secure the twine in place.

For the panel, I die cut a pearl white cardstock using the LF Fancy Lattice Backdrop die. I trimmed another piece at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I adhered the lattice panel to this rectangle piece.

I prepped a white pearl vellum with anti-static powder. I stamped the sentiment from the LF Offset Sayings: Christmas stamp set on this vellum using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I poured clear embossing powder to the wet ink then heat set it. I coloured the letters with a green shimmery pen. I set this aside to dry before cutting it into a strip.

I created a trunk for the tree using the stem die from the LF Stitched Flower Frame die set. I die cut a pearl brown cardstock using this die. I adhered this to the back of the stringed tree.

I adhered the tree to the white panel. I adhered the sentiment strip on top of the trunk applying glue to the back of the sentiment only.

I adhered the star using a foam adhesive. I adhered clear sequins to the strings. I adhered this to a top folding A2 note card.

3D Space Pop-up Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this card to join the latest Lawn Fawnatics challenge. The theme is Up, Up, and Away!, create a project with fun things in the sky. 

I used a black watercolor paper for my card base. The size of my the panel is 8 1/4" x 6". It is a left over paper that's why the short end of the panel is smaller than usual but it worked.

I painted the panel with Finetec Mica paints to create a galaxy sky. I splattered white metallic paint over the panel. I forgot to tape the watercolor paper to a board so I had a bit of warping but hardly noticeable. After this panel has dried. I trimmed 1/2" off from each side of the long side. I scored this at 4 1/8" and used a bone folder on the fold for a nice crease. This painted panel will be the inside of the card.

The stamp I used is the Lawn Fawn Out of this World stamp set. I stamped the images on white cardstock and colored it with Copic markers. I stamped the images twice to create a mirror image. This stamp set comes with a coordinating die set which I don't have, but these images are easy to fussy cut. 

For the pop-up mechanism, I cut a square on acetate. I drew a spiral on a paper. This paper has the same size as the acetate. I used this paper as the template for the pop-up mechanism. I placed the paper behind the acetate and cut the acetate following the spiral line on the paper. I adhered the tip of the spiral acetate to the the right side of painted panel. I used Ranger Glossy Accents to adhere the transparency to the watercolor paper. 

I applied a dot of Glossy Accent on the center of the spiral and folded the card towards the acetate. After the Glossy Accent dried, the acetate pop-ups up when the card is opened. 

I adhered the planets to the acetate, adhering it back to back to sandwich the acetate and hide the glue. 

I created a foldable pop-up mechanism for the astronaut and the spaceship using a folded strip of cardstock. These images flatten when the card is folded and pop-up a bit when the card is opened. 

I heat embossed a sentiment using white pigment ink and white embossing powder. 

For the card front, I die cut the LF Giant Happy Birthday die on a black, starry patterned paper. I also die cut this on hollographic paper. I adhered the hollographic die cut on the back of the patterned paper die cut offsetting it for a shadow effect.

I adhered this to the front of the card. This sentiment die cut can stand alone because of its large size. Since I have an extra sun stamped, colored and fussy cut, I adhered this to the front of the card.

I die cut a smiley face from the LF Make Me Smile die set on a left over black watercolor paper.

June 2025 Challenge #77~Anything Goes with Optional Twist: Heat Embossing #98

20 Minute Challenge

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am a guest designer at the Craft & Connect Challenge Blog. For this month's challenge, they are doing a 20 Minute Challenge in which you create a card or any handmade project in 20 minutes or less. I was a bit unsure about this since it usually takes me more than 20 minutes to create a card, but I am up for the challenge. How about you?

I did not include in the 20 minutes the time I planned and pulled the supplies out of my stash. I pressed my timer as soon as I started creating.

I trimmed an Altenew Velvet cardstock into 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". I lightly spritz water to this panel to prepare it for embossing. The mist softens the fibers of the paper and prevents cracking with embossing. I embossed this panel using the Simon Say Stamp Margot Tile 3D embossing folder. I heat set this panel to speed dry it.

I inked the flat side of the embossed panel with Altenew Berry Mocha ink. I heat set this to dry the ink.

At this point, I am at the 10-minute mark. I swiped a Versamark ink on the edges of the panel. I poured gold embossing powder on the sticky ink, then heat embossed it. 

I was fiddling with my project as to how to add a sentiment to the panel. I did not want to cover all that detailed embossing. I paused the timer so I can look for a gold cardstock to die cut the sentiment on. The sentiment die cut is from Lawn Fawn. 

I adhered the sentiment to the panel. It was a bit tedious to add glue to the die cut sentiment because of its dainty feature.

I still have a few minutes left so I flicked gold paint to the panel. I heat set this again to dry the paint and this is when I ran out of time. The only step I was not able to do with this project is to adhere it to a note card. Not too bad, right? 

All the use of the heat gun on the cardstock panel caused some warping. I laid an acrylic block over the cardstock panel to flatten it.

Stand Up Happy Heart

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. For today's project, I challenged myself to create a stand up character so I can participate in the Lawnfawnatics challenge on Anything But A Card or Tag. It took me a while to plan this out since I was hoping to make the heart stand with just the die cut legs. But it keeps falling down so I have to create a ground for the heart and an invisible support to keep the heart stable while upright. 

I used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Happy Heart die set for my project. I die cut two pieces of the heart on red cardstock. I die cut the arm/hand on purple cardstock. I die cut the legs using the stick die on the set. For the feet, I used the cheek dies on the set. I die cut two pairs of the arms and legs, and 3 pairs of the feet on purple cardstock. I will layer these die cuts to make the heart character more sturdy.

On one of the hearts, I adhered the arms and legs. I scored a pair of the feet die cuts, about two-eighths of an inch from one end. I adhered the scored portion to the end of the legs. I adhered the other die cuts underneath these scored feet to add dimension and hopefully, some stability. Unfortunately, there is some struggle in making the heart stand up. To solve this problem, I created a base to keep the stand up heart stable when upright.

I die cut the eyes and mouth on black cardstock. After adhering it to the heart, I added details to the eyes using a white Sakura gel pen.

I die cut two pieces of oval shapes on heavy weight cardstock. To add more support to the stand up heart, I trimmed a strip of thick acetate. I scored this at 1/2". Using a craft knife, I cut a slit on the oval piece where I inserted the folded end of the acetate. I stamped a sentiment on the oval piece using a stamp from LF On The Mend stamp set. After I treated the area with anti-static powder, I stamped the sentiment using Versafine Onyx black ink and clear embossing powder. I curved the stamp using the oval die as a guide to add a bit of interest to the base.

I inserted the scored end of the acetate through the slit and adhered this to the other side of the oval piece using a double adhesive tape. I adhered the other oval die cut for a clean base. 

I added double adhesive tape to the other end of the acetate. I squirted dots of glue to the bottom side of the feet of the stand up heart. I adhered the back side of the heart to the acetate. 

For the other heart die cut piece, I stamped the sentiment using stamps from the LF Happy Everything stamp set. After treating the area with anti-static tool, I embossed the sentiment with Versamark ink and white embossing powder. 

I am planning to mail this to Mrs. Fitzwater's 3rd Grade class in Oklahoma. Her class is collecting hearts for Valentine's Day from all over the country and hopefully, from all over the world. I hope this arrives in time. My stand up heart, when folded in its feet, does not fit an A2 envelope. I will either have to create my own envelope for it or mail it using an A4 envelope. This is something I will keep in mind if I plan to recreate this in the future with the intent of mailing it.

Negative Space Coloring

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project features the Negative Space Coloring technique. A negative space is the area surrounding the image, in my project's case, the sunflowers are my images and the surrounding open space around each flower is the negative space. We often give more attention to the image, adding colors and details to the image/s. This is not the case with negative space coloring technique. We do the opposite in negative space coloring technique, in which we add color to the background instead of the image.

I used the Blank Page Muse Small Sunflower Blossom rubber stamp on my project. I stamped the sunflower on a yellow cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig tool to help me stamp the flower repeatedly on the panel. The Stamp-a-ma-jig is an old tool but there are other stamp positioning tools that can be used for this purpose. I used Memento Tuxedo black ink for stamping.

After I stamped the sunflowers in rows to fill up the whole panel, I colored the negative space with a black Copic marker.

I die cut the sentiment on a pearl gold shimmer cardstock. The die I used is from Lawn Fawn. I die several pieces of this sentiment and adhered this to the panel. 

I ran the black marker on the edges of the panel to hide the color of the yellow cardstock. I adhered this to a top folding A2 note card.
