Watercolored Panel

Hello! I am on the Blank Page Muse Blog with this watercolored panel. The BPM products I used are:

• Butterfly with Woman Mariposa Eyes rubber stamp
  
• Vintage Text with Bird & Flowers Background Rubber Stamp
  
• Butterfly Trails Circles patterns Mixed Media Stencil
  

I used the Misti Lite, which is a new tool for me. It is a stamping tool that helps with precise stamping especially when restamping is needed. A magnet is necessary to keep the tool in place. As for the paper, it needs to be secured with a less tacky tape or with another magnet which I did not do. I think if you use a larger paper, the tool might be able hold the paper in place. 

I used different mediums in coloring this panel. I used Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stains on the girl's hair. I used Gansai Tambi on most of the watercoloring except for the circle swirls on the background. I aslo used Tim Holtz Distress inks on this panel.

I switched brushes when I was watercoloring. I used different sized small round brushes on watercoloring the image and the area to ground the image. I used a flat brush on the background.

My initial plan was only to use the girl image on this project. Sometimes, ideas flow as I work on a project. I used the text background stamp to add details to the background. Even if the watercolor wash background has harsh lines, it was less noticeable once the text was stamped. I used a Tim Holtz Distress ink to stamp the text background.

Since I am not after a crisp impression, I used my hand to press the background stamp to transfer the inked impression to the paper. If you like it to be crisp, adhere the rubber stamp to an acrylic block. 

I used the stencil to add another layer of design to the panel. I added ink to the open circles of the stencil. I used Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain for this.

Some of the ink seeped under the stencil making it look like a blob instead of a circle. I am not too worried about this since I am going for a loose look. I picked up the excess ink with a dry paper towel.

I added details to the stamped image using a white gel pen for the eyes and a black enamel pen on the butterfly.

Happy STAMPtember!

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Simon Says Stamp is celebrating STAMPtember! It is the biggest and most exciting stamping event of the year. Last month, SSS asked for mailing addresses from their followers. The first 100 will get a complimentary STAMPtember exclusive product. YAY! I am one of the lucky 100!

I used the SSS Best Witches Clear Stamp Set on my platform pop-up card. I stamped the images on watercolor paper. I colored the images with Kuretake Gansai Tambi, Coliro Mica and Karin markers. I fussy cut the images. The stamp set has a coordinating die available for puchase in case you are not into fussy cutting.

I think the most challenging part of this project is arranging all the elements on the platform. I did a lot of fiddling with the arrangement. I am so glad with all the re-arranging of the already glued elements, the platform survived. 

I stamped one of the sentiments on black cardstock, partially stamping a segment of the sentiment to create this into strips. In this way, the sentiment will fit on the back of the platform pop-up.

I added a glow-in-the-dark feature to the pop-up platform for an additional enchanting fun. These elements are also floating off the platform which was achieved with the use of acetate strips.

Shaker, Wobbler Birthday Card, a Remake

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. A new month means a new challenge at Stick It Down Scrapbook and Card Making Challenge in FB. There are several opportunities to join with three sketches to choose from.

My Favorite Things just said its goodbye to its crafting era. I am saddened to see another great crafting company close its doors. I remember my first MFT product, which I still have, believe it or not. I also remember where I bought it, a brick and mortar store here in St. Louis, which sadly closed a long time ago. I also remember joining the MFT blog challenges, winning once last November 2021. Lots of great memories. It just shows how anything is vulnerable to the changing times. I want to thank Kim, MFT's owner, for all the great things she has brought to me in the crafting world. I wish her well and maybe I will cross paths with her again in the future.

This card is a tribute to MFT using MFT products from my card stash.

This is also a remake of a card I created a long time ago. I had a bit of technical malfunction with the shaker feature of that card. I really wanted a seamless shaker card at that time but I was not able to contain the shaker beads. With the developments and improvements in crafting, I was able to figure out how to fix this problem. 

I stamped the images on watercolor paper using Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress ink so I can do a no line coloring. I used the Misti Stamping Tool to stamp the images. With the texture of the watercolor paper, I needed to re-stamp the images. The stamping tool was a big help on this part.

I stamped five images from the MFT stamp set to follow the number of balloons on the sketch. 

I colored the images using a newly acquired Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors Noveau Set of 24. I already have the set of 36 colors and also own several single watercolor pans. I love this watercolor brand! The new set offers muted colors which is a great addition to the 36 color set. 

After  I watercolored the images, I fussy cut the images leaving a narrow border around it.

I used pattern papers from Doodlebug to complete my scene. I trimmed the green checkered paper at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".  I traced the wavy road die on this panel. I cut the panel on the traced lines and erased the pencil lines.

I die cut the wavy road die on a pebbled patterned paper. Using the split panel as guide, I positioned the wavy road die cut on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" light weight paper. I lightly traced this with a pencil. I colored this traced road with a black marker. This black coloring will show through the wavy road die cut.

I adhered the wavy road die cut to the white cardstock panel using the traced lines as guide. I erased the pencil lines. I lined the wavy road die cut with a double adhesive tape. I wrapped this panel with a left-over plastic film packaging leaving one of the ends open. The double adhesive tape served as a trap to keep the shaker elements. I poured seed beads on this wavy road pocket. It was a bit tough with the narrow opening that's why I chose a very small shaker element, seed beads. I closed the bottom flap to seal the shaker. Now I have a seamless shaker. This is the upgraded step of my previous card. 

I stamped the sentiment on the larger green checkered paper piece. I treated this first with an anti-static tool. I stamped the sentiment using a red dye ink then stamped it using Versamark ink so I can heat emboss it with clear embossing powder. I used the Misti Stamping Tool for this purpose.

I adhered the checkered paper to the wrapped panel using liquid adhesive. I set this aside to dry.

I adhered one of the bear images on the road portion of the panel using a mini wobbler. I adhered the other bear image and the larger tree with foam adhesive. I adhered the other tree and the stop sign image with liquid glue. I used a portion of the negative die cut to ground the car.

I inked the edges of the green checkered panel to mute down the brightness.

Creating a Scene With BPM Stamps

 

Hello! Welcome to another BPM blog post. Today's project shows how you can use several Blank Page Muse stamps to create a scene. 

I am using the BPM Woodlands Art Rubber Stamps and the BPM You Make Me Happy Hummingbird Clouds Flower Clear Stamp Set on this project.

After I planned how my scene will look like, I stamped the images on a scrap piece of paper to give me an idea on the placement of the images, and the order of stamping. 

It also gave me an idea which images I need to create a mask for. Since this is a draft, the stamping of the images need not to be straight. 

If you noticed, the stamping on the draft is different from the final project. I made a boo-boo on a step but it's alright. It still turned out well, what do you think?

Any image that will be on the front needs a mask. The fox had a mask but the mask fell off before I was able to take a photo.

Since most of the stamps I used are rubber stamps, I used a stamp positioner to know where to stamp the images. This is the limitation of rubber stamps compared to clear stamps. You cannot really see where you are stamping.

I used Versafine Onyx Blank ink, a watercolor friendly ink, in stamping the images since I used this medium in coloring the images and the background. I heat set the panel before coloring to make sure that the ink is dry before watercoloring. I used mostly Tim Holtz Distress Ink Re-inkers. For the colors that I don't have, I used the Kuretake Gansai Tambi.

Once I was done coloring the images, I free painted the background. I started painting the sky since this used a very light color. It is easier to paint over a lighter color with a darker color than vice versa. It is harder to lighten up a dark color once you have painted it.

Easy Watercoloring

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card features an easy and simple watercoloring technique. It is so simple that you can use any watercolor medium you have in your stash.

I used the Blank Page Muse Mr. G & Words stamp set on my card. I stamped the image on watercolor paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink which is a watercolor friendly ink. I used the Misti Stamping Tool to restramp the image several times. Some brands of watercolor paper are textured that's why re-stamping the image is a must. I used the Ranger Watercolor Paper which has a smooth side and a textured side. I end up using the smooth side since I couldn't get a crisp stamped impression on the textured side no matter how many times I've restamped the image.

Make sure the ink has dried before watercoloring. I sped dry mine with a heat tool.

I colored my image with vibrant and bold colors. The watercolor I used is Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor. But as I've mentioned earlier, any watercolor brand or medium will work for this image. 

I painted the background of the giraffe with a wash of watercolor. To create this effect, using a flat brush, apply clean water to the area which will be the background. Apply the color to a palette and mute the color down with water. Apply this pigment to the wet background. Tilting the panel also helps with letting the pigment run down by itself. If you want to add more pigment, just make sure to dry the area first before applying more color. Or if you placed too much pigment, add clean water to the area, then press a dry paper towel to this area to transfer the color to the paper towel.

I used the old school Stamp-a-ma-jig tool to stamp my sentiment. I want my sentiment to fit on the white space. The Stamp-a-ma-jig helped me with the partial stamping of the sentiments to achieve this look. I also stamped the sentiment using the same ink so I can apply watercolor to the words for a color block look. 

At first, I thought I got a sentiment stamp with a factory defect because one of the words is misspelled. (Do you recognize it?) Only to find out that this is how it is spelled in British English. Nice to know, right?

This could have passed for a CAS card but I wanted to add a touch of color on the sides so I matted the panel with a light blue cardstock.

Watercolour Resist Using Freezer Paper

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. For today's card, I am trying out a technique using freezer paper as a resist in watercoloring. I am using the Kat Scrappiness Christmas Tree Coverplate die on this card.

I die cut a piece of freezer paper using the coverplate die. My cutting pad is very warped that I have to add a metal shim to my sandwich for a clean cut. I trimmed a watercolor paper at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I positioned the freezer paper die cut over the watercolor paper with shiny side kissing the watercolor paper. I sandwiched this in a folded typing paper, then fed it to the Minc Laminator machine. I fed it twice just to be make sure that the freezer paper adheres to the watercolor paper. 

My colors are inspired by the latest Color Hues Challenge. I painted the tree with blue watercolor and painted the background with cream watercolor. The watercolor I used is Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. I set the panel aside to dry in between watercoloring. I did not use a heat tool since this can deactivate the stickiness of the freezer paper. 

Once I am done coloring, I pointed the heat gun to one of the corners of the freezer paper mask. I carefully lifted this up using a craft knife. I peeled the freezer paper from the watercolor paper until I felt that I cannot peel it off anymore. I reheat the area where the papers are in contact, then repeat the process of peeling the freezer paper until all of the freezer paper is removed. 

Depending on how you die cut the freezer paper, your die cut might be the mirror image of the die which is not a problem with the die I used on this card. But if you intend to die cut a sentiment to use as a mask, just be mindful on which side of the freezer paper you are die cutting. Again, the shiny side is the waxed side that will adhere to the paper once fed through a laminator.

I die cut the watercolored panel using a postage stamp die. I added cream gems to the tree. I lightly rubbed the Versamark ink to the postage edges. I poured Ranger Enchanted Gold embossing powder to this then heat set it.

For the background panel, I die cut a shimmery blue cardstock using the Kat Scrappiness Buffalo Plaid Backdrop die. I forgot to use the metal shim so the negative cuts did not fall off. This is actually a happy accident for me. Keeping the negative cuts intact gave an embossed impression to the blue cardstock panel. I adhered this panel to a top folding A2 notecard applying a lot of adhesive to keep the negative cuts from falling off.

I die cut a banner on blue cardstock. I embossed a sentiment to this. I adhered this to the bottom portion of the tree. 

I adhered the watercolored panel to the plaid panel with foam adhesive.

My son suggested to have a star added to the scene. I don't have a cream colored star sequin. I could really die cut one but instead, I embossed a sequin star with the Ranger Enchanted Gold embossing powder. I did multiple layers of embossing. I added a Wow! Gold Pearl embossing powder next and a Wow! Ultra High embossing powder as the last finish. Heat the heat gun first before melting the powder to prevent warping the sequin. I adhered the star to the top of the tree and added a sequin to the center. 

I added a dot of blue to the centers of the gems using a Copic marker.

Winter Issue Challenge Week: A Card Challenge with Meghann Andrew

Watercolored Enchanted Garden Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The challenge theme is on Enchanted Garden And/Or Christmas In July. We have two sponsors for this challenge. I am using an image from one of our sponsors.

I printed the image on watercolor paper. I sized the image to print on a 4" x 6" paper. I colored the image using the retired Marvy Uchida Color In Watercolor Twist which works like a color pencil. Although you can color with this medium direct to paper, I chose to pick the pigment from the tip of the color pencil with a water brush and apply it to the image. 

I had a hard time using this medium in coloring the background so I switched to Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor. I added splatters of paint to the blue background. 

I traced the outline of the image with a black gel ink but then I realized that I wanted a bit of glow surrounding the image. I did not use watercolor for it might make the gel ink bleed so I used Faber Castell Polychromos to color around the image. 

I added a grass die cut which was cut using the Lawn Fawn Grassy Hills Border die. I ended up covering most of this grassy hill with various flower sequins. I did get crazy over the sequins. I added Nuvo Crystal drops to the flower centers. 

I added Lawn Fawn Liquid Stardust to the butterfly and the white accents of the mushroom. It was a challenge to use this since I re-activated the gel ink making it bleed. I need more planning next time. I added pigment again over those areas where the ink bled. 

I die cut a patterned paper using the largest die from the Lawn Fawn Outside-In Stitched Scalloped Rectangle Stackables die set. I die cut a rectangle window to create a frame using the Hero Arts Infinity Rectangle Die. I adhered this to the watercolored panel making sure the image is centered.

For the sentiment, I am using the Little B Handwritten dies set. I die cut the hello twice on cardstock and once on white glitter cardstock. I adhered these die cuts on top of each other with the glittered die cut on top.

For the supplemental sentiment, I stamped this on white cardstock using Navy Blue ink. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Circular Sayings stamp set. I masked the rest of the sentiment so I can stamp the word there only. I die cut this into a strip using Avery Elle Simple Sentiments die set. I die cut an extra strip so I can adhere it to the back of the stamped sentiment strip. I punched one end to create a fishtail banner. I adhered the sentiment to the right top side of the panel, flushed to the scallop frame.

Mini Slimline Shaker Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The current theme is on Slimline (DL) Cards or Shaped Cards. 

I printed the image on Bristol Watercolor paper. I colored the image with Gansai Tambi Watercolor. I blended different colors of Tim Holtz Distress Oxide on the background using a self-made cloud stencil and a Picket Fence blender brush.

I created a frame for the image using a lavender cardstock cut at 3 1/2" x 5 1/2". I created a rectangular window using a rectangle die. I did partial die cutting to create a bigger window compared to the size of the die. You can also use a craft knife for this purpose. The window was cut more on the left edge of the panel, close to the card opening. I wll be adding the sentiment on the other side.

The die cut sentiment is from Trinity Stamps Mr. Snailman coordinating stamp set. I die cut the word hello on watercolor paper three times. I applied pearl white watercolor to these sentiment die cuts. I die cut the sentiment shadow on the same lavender cardstock I used for the card panel. I adhered the sentiment die cut on the shadow die cut. I adhered this to the wide border on the card front panel, snipping off the excess. 

I adhered an acetate to the back of the window panel. I applied foam adhesive, making sure that the foam strips are thin enough not to show through the window. I created a well around the window. 

I adhered the painted panel to the front of a slimline note card, centering the image on the window. I poured some holographic sequins on the top of the colored image. I adhered the window panel to this, making sure it is aligned to the card base. 

And what is a shaker card without seeing it in action?
