Photo Inspired Slimline Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created today's project inspired by the photo and sketch on this week's Inspired By Challenge. Best of all, I was able to incorporate stitching on this project which is a favorite technique of mine. 

The stitching holes were created with the use of a die from the Waffle Flower Stitchable Hearts die set. I die cut the hearts on a light gray cardstock. The die creates a row of three stitchable hearts. I trimmed the hearts apart so I can adhere a heart to a tag. I stitched each heart with a different color of DMC embroidery floss, following the colors of the hanging clothes on the inspiration photo.

I die cut the tags on the same light gray cardstock. The tag die is from the Lawn Fawn Tiny Tags die set.  

For the card panel, I die cut a white cardstock using the Pinkfresh Studio Slim Fancy Diagonal Stripes die.  I backed this with a dark gray cardstock which I spritz with pearlized water first. After I dried this with a heat gun, I spritz the same panel with a black Mica spray. I dried this again with a heat tool. I adhered the striped die cut to this shimmery panel. I trimmed off any excess. 

I cut a gray-white twine long enough to cover the width of the slimline panel. I threaded the twine through the holes of the tags. I adhered the ends of the twine to the back of the slime line panel. 

I arranged the tags on the panel. I adhered the tags to the panel with a foam adhesive. I added a white mini clothespin on top of the tags. I made these clothespins secure to the tag and the panel with the use of a glue gun. I adhered a floral sequin on the top of the tag. I adhered a white gem on the center of the floral sequin. 

I die cut the letters on a black mirror cardstock using the alphabet die from the SugarPea Designs Message Letter Board die set. I adhered each letter on top of each stitched heart.

Slimline Mother's Day Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I stitched the letters I used on this card a while back. I wasn't able to make it into a card until now. I hope you like it.

The stitched letters are made using a die from Spellbinders. If you have been following my blog, I love to stitch. When Spellbinders came out with these alphabet dies, I added it to my wish list until finally I was able to purchase it. I die cut the letters on patterned paper which can be flimsy and won't stand the frequent handling while stitching. That's why I die cut duplicates of the letters on cardstock and adhered the patterned paper die cuts to this to make it sturdy.

The slimline background die is from Pinkfresh Studio. Same with the floral embellishments which actually is a washi tape. I adhered the washi tape to a white cardstock, burnish it to remove any air bubble, and fussy cut it. This washi tape has a coordinating die cut I don't have it. 

I added a burlap die cut to the back of the scallop windows. I die cut this on kraft cardstock. The die I used is from HoneyBee. To add some interest to the burlap die cut, I added gold foiling by heat setting sticky embossing powder to several parts of the burlap. I burnished the foil on the stick areas. Not all foil will work using this technique. Only the non-heat activated foil works on this technique. I used the Deco Foil transfer sheets. This is also one way of using those left-over scraps of foil. Even ones that are already used since you are not foiling a large area.

I also added gold gems from Pretty Pink Posh. The sentiment strip was made by heat embossing the sentiment using a stamp from Lawn Fawn. The strip die I used is from Avery Elle.

I adhered this panel to a top folding kraft slim line card.

Valentine's And Easter Cards Using Photo Play

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. This will be a photo filled post since I am featuring 4 cards today. I am using Photo Play products on all the cards. For the Valentine's cards, I am using Tulla & Norbert's Love Story Collection. On the Easter cards, I am using Hop To It Collection.

The first card is a shaker card. This is very easy to replicate since all you need is one of the cut-apart patterned papers. Not only that. I used one my extra clear plastic packaging to house the shakers. Just cover the panel with the clear plastic packaging. Secure the edges with a double adhesive tape. Remember to leave one side unsealed. This will be where you pour the shaker elements you want to add to complete the shaker card. I rubbed an anti-static dryer sheet to the inner side of the plastic packaging to prevent the sequins from getting stuck to the plastic. I also adhered some hearts to the cut-apart panel. 

The second card is a slimline card. The pennant banner on this card was inspired by the pennant ephemera included in the pack. I don't have mine in my pack, so I recreated this using some patterned paper and dies. The sub-sentiment banner is also from the ephemera pack. One thing that I like about Photo Play is that they have a pre-colored print-out of the same images in the stamp set. If you are not a colorist, this is the perfect product for you! All you need is the die set which matches these images just like the stamps. 

Now, it's time for the Easter cards. I am using products from the Photo Play Hop It Collection. This is their Easter/Spring collection. For the third card, I created another slimline card. I die cut one of the patterned papers in the collection using a slimline die that cuts scalloped windows. I created scenes on each window using the stickers from the sticker sheet. Isn't the bunny adorable? 

The fourth card is an interactive card with a spinning element. The sticker sheet includes two stickers with a bunny on a basket, one facing front, and one facing backwards. It was not a perfect match when I lined it up but very close enough. If I am going to do this all over again, I will choose a smaller oval for the window. I feel that the window is too big in comparison to the bunny sticker. I added floral sequins to the spinner floss.

Digital Image to Cut File, Shaped Easel Slimline Card

 

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The theme for this challenge is Use A Card Fold Tutorial +/Or Animals. I am incorporating both themes to my card. We have Beccy's Place as sponsor for this challenge. 

I am using a freebie image from Beccy's Place. She has a list of freebies in her blog. I encourage you to check it out. She also has a list of card fold tutorials in her blog. I created an easel card which I modified. My design modification is inspired by Jennifer McGuire's Easel Card tutorial. 

I uploaded the design to Cricut Design Space where I modified this digital image into a one solid piece cut file. Given more time, I could have created the layers. The best thing about using the CDS is the offset feature. This is the first time I used this feature on an image. I have used this feature on fonts before and I love it. This feature adds a shadow to the image. I created the white card base of this card using the offset feature. The weld feature will be difficult to use for this design since the top of the birdhouse is pointed and irregular. There is not enough area to weld.

I also created a solid birdhouse piece by using the contour feature of CDS. This omits cut details that you don't want cut. I cut this image on a gray cardstock as the backing of the rest of the birdhouse layers.

I cut three pieces of the offset image on heavy weight white cardstock. I cut the birdhouse image on gray and lavender cardstocks. From hereon, I used my scissors to snip off any part of the cut that I don't want.

I added details to the birdhouse.  I stamped Lawn Fawn Woodgrain Backdrops to the lavender pieces using gray dye ink. The lines were also stamped. I used the arrow stamp from the set making sure I wipe off the ink from the ends before stamping it to the lavender cuts. 

The details on the birdhouse was created using Ellen Hutson Stitching Lines. The sentiment is from the same Lawn Fawn stamp set. I stamped this on the birdhouse base layer using Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed this with clear embossing powder. I created the lavender circle frame using two circle dies from My Favorite Things Circle Stax die. 

The birds are from the Lawn Fawn Love Letters stamp set. I stamped this on blue cardstock and fussy cut the images up to the edge. Sadly, I had to cut off its legs. I ran a black marker around the image for a finished look. After I adhered the birds to the panel, I drew in the legs with a black pen.

I used a 3D bow die from Paper Smooches Easter Egg die set for the bow. I trimmed off the bow from the cut image which means I also have to trim off that part of the white base card. Given enough time, I could have done a better job editing this image in CDS but at that time, I was not sure of where this design will go. I prefer to just cut off some parts of the design's cuts rather than starting all over again. Hopefully, with sharing how I created this card, I can save you some time and resource/s.

Jennifer McGuire's easel card did not require a stopper to keep the easel up which unfortunately, does not work for this card. This is when I used the third white cardstock panel which was cut halfway from the base then adhered to the base to act as a stopper. The easel sometimes does not stay up but after several tries, it finally stayed up.

Waterfall Retirement Slimline Album (Craft My Stash #18)

Hello! Welcome back to another Craft My Stash post. For this post, I used a lot of my stash which made me proud of myself.

I was tasked to create something special for my friend and colleague who is retiring this year. This is not the first time I created something like this in which I asked my co-workers' participation, too. I will link the other project below. 

I die cut mini note cards for people to write their message on. After I collected the cards, I created this waterfall slimline retirement card. Thanks to this tutorial by Mixed Up Craft, I was able to pull this one through. Several differences though: 1. My card is slimline sized.; 2. I have more waterfall elements.; and, 3. Each side of the card has a waterfall mechanism.

For the front, I used the following products:

• Echo Park Summer Floral stencil
• Paper Smooches
• Avery Elle You die

For the frame, I used Trinity Stamps die. I used a satin ribbon from Ellen Hutson for the closure mechanism of this card.

I used the Li'l Inker Designs floral die for the embellishment on the top card. The matte was die cut using Lawn Fawn Stitched Square Stackables die. The note cards was die cut using Concord & 9th Love You So die. Although I created the waterfall mechanism using a scoring board, I partially die cut the end with the Lawn Fawn Flippin' Awesome die to create the tab for pulling. The background panel was embossed using the Cuttlebug Anna Griffin embossing folder. I inked this with Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink.

 

To embellish the pull out piece, I blended ink to one of the waterfall mechanism panels using the same stencil I used for the cover. I stamped a sentiment on the other panel. The stamp is from Technique Tuesday Dear Time by Ali Edwards stamp set. The floral stamp is from Li'l Inker Designs stamp set. If I will re-do this project, I will stamp and/or ink this panel before putting the waterfall mechanism together. I could not get a good stamped impression with the waterfall mechanism already assembled. I actually messed up on my re-stamping. You should have seen my face. Since the project is already done when I made this boo-boo, I added another layer of the panel to cover it up. This gave a bit of a struggle when sliding the waterfall through the guide. Something gets caught which you might notice in the video below.

I created a box to for the album to put the card in. I used the Martha Steward Scoring Board to put the box together.

Here is the close up of the lid. I used the same embossing folder I used for the inside of the card. I lightly rubbed the Tsukineko Delicata White Shimmer Metallic Pigment Ink pad over the raised areas of the embossed panel.

I created the gift bag by adhering pages from an old book. I used the We R Memory Keepers Goodie Bag Guide to create the jagged edge of the bag. I stapled a strip of cardstock for the handle. 

I created the tag using a scrap from my first attempt in creating the box. I was working on adding the same glitter paste using the same stencil to a corner of the lid. The paper I used was not thick enough to withstand both inking and the glitter paste. A part of the paper got ripped despite being careful on taking the tape off. I did not want to put it to waste so I turned it into a tag. The tag die I used is from Paper Smooches. The sentiment die is from Avery Elle. I did not show it in photo but I stamped the recipients name on the back of the tag.

Mini Slimline Shaker Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The current theme is on Slimline (DL) Cards or Shaped Cards. 

I printed the image on Bristol Watercolor paper. I colored the image with Gansai Tambi Watercolor. I blended different colors of Tim Holtz Distress Oxide on the background using a self-made cloud stencil and a Picket Fence blender brush.

I created a frame for the image using a lavender cardstock cut at 3 1/2" x 5 1/2". I created a rectangular window using a rectangle die. I did partial die cutting to create a bigger window compared to the size of the die. You can also use a craft knife for this purpose. The window was cut more on the left edge of the panel, close to the card opening. I wll be adding the sentiment on the other side.

The die cut sentiment is from Trinity Stamps Mr. Snailman coordinating stamp set. I die cut the word hello on watercolor paper three times. I applied pearl white watercolor to these sentiment die cuts. I die cut the sentiment shadow on the same lavender cardstock I used for the card panel. I adhered the sentiment die cut on the shadow die cut. I adhered this to the wide border on the card front panel, snipping off the excess. 

I adhered an acetate to the back of the window panel. I applied foam adhesive, making sure that the foam strips are thin enough not to show through the window. I created a well around the window. 

I adhered the painted panel to the front of a slimline note card, centering the image on the window. I poured some holographic sequins on the top of the colored image. I adhered the window panel to this, making sure it is aligned to the card base. 

And what is a shaker card without seeing it in action?

String Art Using A Cross Stitching Die

Hello! Happy Father's Day to my husband, Amang & Papa! Happy Father's Day to all dads. This day is for you and all about you. 

I created this slimline card using The Stamp Market Stitched Alphabet Die. To be able to estimate the spacing of the letters, I traced the die on scrap paper. I cut this out following the traced lines and used these letters to plan the layout of the letters. I temporarily taped these letters to the slimline cut panel using a non-tacky tape. I positioned the letter die over the template, taped it before carefully pulling out the template. I ran each letter one at a time through my die cut machine. 

These dies only poke the holes to stitch on. It does not die cut the letter itself. 

After all the holes of each letter were die cut, I started stitching. Instead of doing a cross stitch, I did a criss-cross pattern from one edge of the letter to the opposite edge. I did this until the whole letter is filled with stitching, covering the holes in the center of the letter. 

I used a metallic red floss to do a running stitch on the outline of the letters.

I die cut the words love you on a white parchment paper and a red mirror cardstock. The die is from Trinity Stamps Frame And Fold die set. I adhered the mirror sentiment die cut to the back of the parchment sentiment die cut, slightly off setting it to create a shadow. 

From the same die set, I used the stitched hearts die. This die does not cut the heart out. It only creates a stitched heart impression once ran through the die cut machine. 

I adhered the love you sentiment next. I trimmed off an eighth of an inch off the sides. I adhered this panel to a white top folding wide slimline note card.
