Create a Frame Using a Large Stamp

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I got my inspiration for today's card from Newton's Nook's latest challenge blog which I linked below. I can't keep myself from joining the challenge. This is one of my favorite challenge blogs.

I cut my card base at 9" x 4 1/2". I scored this at 4 1/2" on the long side to create a top folding square card.  I stamped the sentiment on all the sides of the card front using a sentiment stamp from Newton's Nook Birthday Roundabout stamp set. I used a light gray ink to stamp this sentiment but I want the color to be lighter, so I used the second generation ink. I had to repeat this second generation stamping twice or thrice, depending on the impression I got. Thanks to the Misti Stamping Tool, it made the re-stamping very easy. Since I stamped the sentiment on the edge and since I am using the Misti, I simply rotated the card to stamp the sentiment on all sides.

I stamped the large round stamp on the center of the card front using a darker gray ink. This stamp is also from the NN Birthday Roundabout stamp set. Thanks again to the Misti, I was able to re-stamp this large stamp since I missed a couple of spots on my first try. I blended the lighter gray ink on the center of the stamped image. I set this aside so I can work on the other elements of my card.

I stamped the same large round stamp on Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I heat set this to speed dry it. You can use any circle die to die cut the stamped impression but I wanted to add details so I fussy cut the outer edge of the large round stamped impression leaving a white border around it. 

Now, it's time to create this into a frame. I traced a circle on the center using a smaller circle die. I also made sure that the circle I am using is large enough for the cat image to fit in. I used my craft knife to create an opening on the center, then used my sharp pointy scissors to fussy cut and create the frame window. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Tattered Rose Oxide ink on the frame. 

For the focal image, I stamped the cat on Strathmore Bristol paper using Versafine Onxy Black ink. The image is from Newton's Nook Loves Cake stamp set. I heat set this to speed dry it. I colored the image using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, following the colors of the cupcake in the inspiration photo. I fussy cut the image, cutting it near the outline, then running a black marker around the fussy cut image.

I added dimension to the frame using a scrap piece of a circle frame die cut that fits on the back which does not show through the front. I adhered this using liquid glue, then adhered it to the front of the card, lining the images so it will match its layout. I applied liquid glue to the back of the stamped cat and tucked it to the inside bottom frame.

I added details to the frame and background using pink and glittered pens in my stash.

To fill the space in between the sentiments, I stamped several confettis using the Tim Holtz Distress Bundled Sage Oxide ink. As last step, I rounded the corners.

Watercolor Pine Tree Christmas Tag

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am playing with my Karin markers today to give the March's #KarinColors a try. Karin Markers have an IG monthly challenge which I linked below. 

I know that some markers can be be used to color directly to the stamp. I gave this technique a try with Karin Markers, and I am truly amazed by the effect! I used it on a layering stamp, which I have difficulties before. Not anymore! I love the organic look created using the Karin Markers on this layering stamp. 

I am using a watercolor paper. I positioned my stamp to it using the Misti Stamping Tool. I applied the darkest color to the first stamp layer. After I've colored the whole stamp, I spritz some water to it. I wiped the excess water off the Misti Door. I pressed the stamp to the watercolor paper. I dried the impression with a heat tool. I re-positioned the paper on the Misti. I spritz water to the left-over ink on the stamp and re-stamped the image. I repeated the process another time. If you have any areas that need more color, just color that part of the stamp and repeat the process. I did this to all layers. The stamp set, which is from Hero Arts, has 4 pine tree layers. 

Isn't the textured effect amazing? I did the same technique on the tree turnk and the sentiment. 

I die cut the panel into a tag. I blended Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink to the background to give it a vintage look.

I added a DMC Diamant Metallic thread to the top of the tag. I adhered a Trinity Gold Bauble to the center of the bow. 

I truly had fun creating this tag. I can't wait to try these markers on my other layering stamps or solid stamps.

Karin Markers IG Art Competition

Embossed Plaid Background

Hello! I am the author of today's challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The challenge is called Create Your Own Background. When we were asked by our blog moderator, Hev, to come up with a challenge, this is the one that first came into my mind since I do enjoy creating backgrounds.

It took me a while before I came up with this card. This is not the original design I created featuring the image provided by A Day For Daisies. The images were already printed, colored and even, foiled that is why I am trying my best not to resort to re-printing the images. I am glad I did not give up in using these printed images.

The gift image is stamped on Neenah Solar White cardstock. I printed the gift in different sizes for some variation. I colored this with Copic markers and added details with a Sakura white gelly roll pen. I foiled this using the Minc Machine. I fussy cut the image leaving a small white border around the image.

I started off with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"red cardstock. I rubbed an anti-static pouch over the entire panel for embossing. I also added pencil marks on all sides to let me know where the center is. I am using the Misti Stamping Tool for this project. I positioned the stamp on the paper, straightening it with a ruler, and then picked it up with the Misti Tool door. The good thing about this pattern and using a Misti, I just have to rotate the paper to get the same impression on the other side. I used different embossing powders for this project. I know some designers love to complete the stamping and pouring the embossing powder before heat setting the panel to prevent warping. Although I did this in some parts of this panel, for the borders with multiple lines, I stamped, applied powder then embossed right away. I was afraid that I will sweep off the powder that's why I did this. To prevent warping the paper, I made sure the heat gun is really hot before pointing it to the area that will be embossed. I also started with heating the backside of the panel first before going to the front. I also made sure to move the heat gun around while heat embossing. The stamps I used to create the plaid are Mama Elephant Boutique Borders and Simon Says Stamp Basic Stripes stamp set.

I applied anti-static powder to a vellum. I heat embossed a sentiment from Hero Arts. I die cut this using a Spellibinders hexagon die. I stamped some small dots to fill in the empty space on top and bottom of the sentiment. This stamp is also from Mama Elephant Boutique Borders. I stamped this using Delicate Shimmer White pigment ink. I set this aside to dry.

I created a hexagon frame on gold cardstock with the use of two hexagon dies. I adhered this to the center of the plaid panel using foam adhesive. I adhered the vellum panel to the center with a liquid glue. I applied dots of glue to the back of the embossed sentiment to hide it. I adhered the gifts to the bottom of the frame. I added a die cut ribbon using a die from Paper Smooches Bows die set onto a red mirror cardstock. I adhered this to the top of the frame. I adhered the gifts to the bottom of the hexagon frame adding foam adhesives to areas with image overhang.

I added gems to the bow and ribbons on the gift boxes. I don't have a small red gem in my stash. I colored a clear one with a Copic Marker to create a red one.

Lawn Fawn Glow in the Dark Halloween Sentiment & Wreath Builder Stencil

My local craft shop, Checkered Cottage, finally acquired this Gina K Designs Wreath Builder stencil for sale. Lucky me, that I get to buy the last one. I've always been curious about this stencil's functionality after watching multiple videos featuring this product. It is about time I put this stencil to the test. There are two stencils in the package, one for a3 3/4" card & one for a 4" card. You can use other sized cards but I decided to stick with one the sizes since it is my first time to use this stencil.

I cut a 4"x4" white piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock. I placed the 4" stencil on a corner of the Misti Stamping tool and secured it in place with a piece of washi tape. I nestled the white piece cardstock to the groove of the stencil starting off as a square shape as recommended by Gina K. I positioned a sentiment on the center which will be the focal point of my wreath. I then positioned a candy corn stamp from Lawn Fawn Spooktacular stamp. I started stamping this image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, rotating the card in the Wreath Builder stencil until I created a complete circle of candy corns. I repositioned this again, then repeated the process. I only have one candy corn stamp so it was a tedious process completing the wreath design but this stencil made it so easy that I think the effort is worth it. After I filled the panel with a lot of stamped candy corn, I started using other elements on the stamp set. I also used little stamps from Lawn Fawn Party Animals to fill in the empty spaces. This tool is very helpful in using those little stamps in your stash that most of the time get unused. You can create backgrounds with the help of this stencil. The possibilities are endless!

Okay, enough of my awe for this stencil. I colored the images with Copic markers. I cut a purple cardstock at 4 1/2"x4 1/2" to matte the stamped panel. I die cut a circle on the middle of the stamped panel using a My Favorite Things Stacked Circle die. Using the Misti again, I positioned the purple cardstock, then centered the stamped panel on top of it. I positioned the sentiment stamp inside the circle. I prepared the area with an anti-static tool, then stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink. I applied Hero Arts embossing powder to the impression then heat set it. I did this two more times but this time I used Wow! Glow in the Dark embossing powder. I started off with a white embossing powder to make the sentiment pop since the glow in the dark powder has a yellow-greenish transparent look once it is heat set. The Misti tool is very useful in repeated stamping techniques. Also, in repeatedly stamping the sentiment, it made the sentiment bold and puffy.

I adhered the purple cardstock on a 4 1/2"x 4 1/2" white note card. I adhered the stamped panel with a fun foam which I cut smaller than the stamped panel and die cut a circle at the center using the next large circle die in the MFT Stax circle die set.

I stamped an extra candy on Neenah Solar White Cardstock and colored it with Copic markers. I die cut the candy using the coordinating die. I added Spectrum Noir Clear Shimmer pen to the candy, then I added Ranger Glossy Accents. Adding Glossy Accents to a small die cut can be a challenge. To make it easy, add a non-tacky tape on the back of the negative space of the die cut. Pieced back the die cut, then add Glossy Accents. In this way, your small die cut lays still as you add the Glossy Accents, and at the same time, you are sure not to lose your small die cuts while you set this aside to dry.

After the Glossy Accents has dried, I adhered this under the sentiment using foam adhesive.

I enjoyed using the Gina K Designs Wreath Builder stencil. As you can see, I created two cards at once. I foresee myself using this tool in my future projects. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant & creative day!
