Monochromatic Holiday Card

 

Hello! Welcome to another challenge @ Incy Wincy Designs. The themes for this month are Food and Drink +/or Monochrome. Our challenge sponsor is Limited Runs. The image I used on this card is linked below. 

I printed the image on watercolor cardstock. I colored the image with Tim Holtz Distress inks. 

I created a stitched framed for the image by first, partially die cutting two frames from the Altenew String Art Rectangle die set to create a pierced square panel. To make this into a frame, I cut off the center using a craft knife to create a window. 

Using DMC floss, I sewn a zigzag pattern on the frame using two brown flosses for some contrast. 

I embossed a sentiment on the the watercolored panel with a Ranger Copper embossing powder. I blended some Tim Holtz Distress ink in Tea Dye on the sides of the cup to dull the bright white of the watercolor paper.

I adhered the frame to this and cut off any excess.

For the background panel, I cut a typing paper at 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". I adhered two kraft patterned papers from Pebbles to this. 

I adhered the stitched focal point to the patterned paper panel.

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge~Anything Goes

Ink Blended Scene Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our challenge theme for today is Happiness. Since it is still pretty much the holidays, it can be a card with Merry Christmas and/or Happy New Year themes. I chose to interpret the theme as to what brings me happiness. The image supplied by our generous sponsor, Limited Runs, is a scene of mountain slopes covered with snow. Snow is very pretty undisturbed. I just don't like the cold it brings and the other hassles that come along with it if traveling. Looking at this image brings me peace, thus the sentiment.

I printed the image on Strathmore Bristol vellum paper with the help of the Cricut Design Space. I don't have any plans to cut the image using the Cricut. But the CDS is a big help for me when printing images since the laptop that is connected to my printer does not have a Word for Windows program installed in it. I made sure that the settings of my printer are on photo and matte since I plan to ink blend on the printed image. When this image got printed, I can see that the ink is still wet on the silhouette trees. I heat set this to dry to I can start applying ink over it.

I am using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks on the sky and snow banks. The colors I used are Broken China, Stormy Sky and Faded Jeans. I used the Picket Fence Studios Life Changing Blender Brush to apply the ink. The good thing about these brushes is that I didn't have to mask off anything. I was able to apply and blend the inks well.

I colored the cabin with Zig Clean Color Brush markers. I drew in lines to make it into a log cabin. I added highlights with Prisma Color color pencils. I added snow to the trees and falling snow using Uni-ball Signo white gel pen. I am not really good at adding falling snow so I used a Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil to guide me where to add the dots. I also drew snow on the trees. I then added Marvy Snow Marker on the roof and the snow banks.

For the sentiment, I applied Coliro Pearl Deep Space watercolor on the same Bristol paper. I heat set this to dry. I die cut the letters using Sugar Pea Designs Message Letter Board Die. I wanted the color to be more bold so I added more watercolor pigment to the letters. I adhered this to the panel.

I drew a Christmas tree in one of the windows. I applied Ranger Glossy Accents to the windows.

I created a frame by die cutting stacking two rectangle stitched dies on a silver mirror cardstock. The dies I used are from Mama Elephant Peek A Frame Creative Cuts and Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle Dies.

Challenge #120~Always Anything Goes

Clean and Simple Card

 

Incy Wincy Challenge Blog is celebrating its 10th year and what a way to celebrate a decade of creativeness but with a special challenge. I've been in Incy Wincy's DT since July 2016. You can see my first post here, if you want to check it out. I am grateful to Incy Wincy for giving me a chance to become a part of it and to show its followers what I can create. I have many applications submitted before Incy Wincy took me under its wing. Hev is a wonderful moderator. She allows us to be involved in coming up with new challenges for the blog. I wish Incy Wincy more decades of creativity and challenges. Cheers to that!

I am using an new image from Limited Runs called Sedum Cluster. The owner and artist of Limited Runs is our very own DT member Nikki. Thank you, Nikki, for the image. For this card, I decided to re-create something close to my first Incy Wincy card, and that is using the Cricut machine. My sister gave me a surprise Christmas present of a Canon ts9512c printer. This is the first time I am using it. I have some difficulties in printing. It is a new product, so there is not a lot in the internet about it to be familiarized with it.

I used Cricut Design Space to plan the lay out of my card design. I uploaded the image to CDS and added a pot from the image library. After I have re-sized it, I sent it to the printer. I used a scrap piece of patterned paper to print the image. The printer can take a 12x12 paper and also print on A2-sized paper. I used an A2-sized paper and set the printer to recognize this size. When I hit print, the image is not in the center of the paper. The Cricut's paper setting for printing is 8 1/2" x 11" only. Maybe Cricut can work on modifying this on its next upgrade. It also would not print if the paper you fed is 12"x12". I cut the patterned paper to 8 1/2" x 11" and this time it worked.

Another thing I've discovered is that Cricut cannot print and cut on patterned paper. When I fed the  mat with the patterned paper with the printed image, it had a hard time recognizing some of the registry marks. The Cricut stopped and was not able to cut the image. It showed an error image on printing the image on white paper. Oh, well. Instead of repeating the whole ordeal with a white paper, I fussy cut the image.

I stamped the sentiments using the Misti Stamping Tool for perfect placement of the stamps on the top and the bottom of the die cut image. I treated the area with an anti-static tool. I stamped the sentiments using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Candied Apple. Good thing that I used the Misti since I had to re-stamp both sentiments. I poured clear embossing powder to the stamped sentiments and heat embossed it. I traced the negative stamped impressions on the label with a white gel pen to make it pop out.

I masked the stamped sentiments and used a mini-background stamp from the same stamp set. I want a subtle impression so I used the Hero Arts Soft Vanilla for this. It was very subtle that I brushed in the same color using a Clarity stencil brush for more blended color. I adhered the pot first. I added a thin strip of red washi tape for a pop of color before adhering the cluster with a foam adhesive. I colored the cluster with Spectrum Noir shimmer pens in green and clear colors. I added gems to the center of the cactus. I punched the corners of the card for additional detail.

I cannot believe that I just created a clean and simple card. I usually struggle with creating this kind of card. You have no idea how much I have to stop myself from adding more embellishments to this card.

Challenge #12 15th December 2018~Always Anything Goes

Birthday Tag with Chalk Blended Background

 

We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our challenge theme for the next two weeks is on creating an ATC, Tag or Bookmark. One of our sponsors for this challenge is Limited Runs.   I am using an image called Mini Birds-BD Cake.

I printed the image on Neenah Solar white cardstock. I re-sized the image so it will fit a 3"x4" panel once I die cut the cardstock. I am breaking in on my newly purchased Faber-Castell Polychromos color pencil. It was a steal purchase from Michaels since it was on clearance at a very low price. The sad part of it is that this is only the 12 pencil set but I think it is okay since I am just trying this out for the first time. I've seen numerous colorists online who uses this color pencil. I am very curious on how it will match up with the Prismacolor color pencils.

I did not go for any shading on my coloring since I have limited polychromos pencils. I could not challenge myself to just using this brand of color pencils so I did use several Prismacolor color pencils. Looking at the final result, you cannot really differentiate the two brands of color pencils. I think it is how heavy-hand you are in coloring that makes a difference.

I die cut this colored panel using Mama Elephant Peek-a-Frame Creative Cuts die. I did not want to leave the background plain white. I want a touch of color that is light enough not to take the eyes away from the colored images. This is when I used the Inkadinkado Blending Chalks. I have not used this since I got it as a freebie when I bought some re-sale items from my neighbor. So, I am breaking in on this as well. The thing I liked about the chalk is that I had some control on coloring the background especially while coloring around the image. I did not have to put a mask over the colored image. And, the effect is very subtle. It is just the right amount of color.

The sentiment is from My Favorite Things. I stamped this using Versafine Onyx black ink. I did not made a good impression on stamping this sentiment. I hate myself for not using the Misti. I don't want to re-stamp it. I've invested so much time on this that I am afraid to make the impression worse if I re-stamp it. To save it, I used black embossing powder and was thankful of the result. No one will ever know that it was not a perfect stamped impression at the start.

I could have stopped here with an ATC but I wanted to make a tag using this colored panel. I die cut a Martha Stewart yellow cardstock using Avery Elle A Tag for All Elle-ments die. I used a Memory Box stencil to add spots to the tag. At this point, I wasn't sure where I was heading with this so I treated the area with an anti-static pouch before applying Tim Holtz Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink on the stenciled tag. I was going for a tone-on-tone effect which I did not achieve. The good thing about the TH Distress inks is it takes a while before it dries so I was able to pour Wow! Pearl White embossing powder, then heat set it. Now, this is the look I was going for. I adhered the colored panel to this with a fun foam in between for added dimension.

I threaded a ribbon through the tag hole. After I secured it with glue and a twine wrapped once around the ribbon and knotted twice, I created a triple bow and adhered this to the ribbon.

Watercolor Galaxy Background Trifold Spinner Card

It is a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our challenge for the next two weeks is on Dress Up! The image I am using on this card is from Limited Runs, one of our two sponsors for this challenge.

I am using Strathmore Watercolor paper, cut a sheet in half, making it 9"x6", then scored it at 4.5". This will be slightly larger than an A2 card for now but I will be trimming off the edges to make it an A2 sized card. I taped this to a board to lessen the warping of the paper as I watercolor. I applied a wider tape next to the score line to protect that side of the card. Using a flat brush, I applied water to the area. I am using Kuretake Gansai Tambi, dropping in colors to the wet area and allowing the water to spread the color. I dried this using a heat gun. I applied black and blue watercolor on top of the dried colors. I picked up some of the water using a paper towel. I dried this using a heat gun.

I uploaded the images to Cricut Design Space so I can print and cut it using the Cricut. Saved me time in fussy cutting =). I flipped the image to create a mirror image. I colored the images with Copic markers. I added details to the dress with a metallic pen to create the dots. I applied clear Wink of Stella to the moon. I added Ranger Glossy Accent to the wings. Now, the image is dressed up like a fairy. I adhered a floss of DMC thread to the back and sandwiched this with the mirror images.

I die cut a circle on one of the watercolored cards and on a piece of white cardstock which will serve as a backing to hide the string. I stamped stars around the circle window using several Lawn Fawn stamps (Lucky Stars and Yay Kites stamp sets). I heat embossed this with Wow! Metallic Gold Rich Regular embossing powder.

I positioned the string image to the center of the circle. I adhered the string to the back of the card front. I sandwiched this string with the white cardstock. I adhered the other watercolored panel to the inside of the card to create the trifold mechanism. I stamped a sentiment on the inner watercolored panel using a Lawn Fawn stamp (Lucky Stars), then heat embossed it in white powder.

Challenge #59~Darkness Falls

Partial Die Cut Interlocking Valentine's Card

I challenged myself to create an interlocking card without the use of a special die that creates this specific mechanism for a card. I am using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Heart die. I measured the heart at its widest. I used a 12" x 6" card stock. The card turned out to be a bit larger than an A2 card. The card measures  4.5" x 5".

I partially die cut half of the heart to each edge of the card stock. To line up the heart, I used a scrap heart die cut as a guide for the metal die. I lined this heart die cut to the back of the partially die cut heart with a washi tape facing the uncut end of the cardstock. I gently removed this die cut after I positioned the metal die on top of it. I ran this through the Big Shot also using partial die cut technique. I trimmed off the cardstock hanging on both ends of the heart with a craft knife. I cut the each half heart partially, one from the top, and the other on the bottom to create the interlocking mechanism. I scored the card with the hearts interlocked.

To embellish the card, I cut a pink card stock to fit the gateway panel of the card. Using a piece of tape at the back of this card stock, I randomly stamped a sentiment to create a background. Taping it together created a continuous piece even if these are two pieces. I am using an old Paper Studio stamp set, and Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink dye ink to create a tone on tone look. I spritz this with some shimmer spray made of Pearl Perfect Pearl diluted in water.

To embellish the heart, I cut an American Crafts patterned paper using the same die cut, then cut it in half. I adhered the card stock and heart to the interlocking card base. Make sure you use a thick card stock for the card base. The mechanism is so fragile that it can get ripped off if you keep playing with it. (Ask me how I know? =)) I cut the excess from the heart and the gatefold edges.

For the star of this card, I printed the birds on Neenah card stock. I flipped one bird to create a mirror image. I colored the birds with Prisma color pencils. I applied clear Spectrum Noir to the birds I fuzzy cut the image. I adhered a bird to half of a heart. I applied Ranger Glossy Accents to the eyes.

This card is pretty much done except that it is missing a sentiment. So with my 10 year old son's input, I stamped a sentiment at the bottom of the heart. I applied a washi tape at the back of the front panel to keep the gatefold closed. I heat embossed a sentiment from Hero Arts Floral Heart stamp and die set. And as last detail, I stamped a small heart to fill in the spaces using Delicata White Shimmer pigment ink.
