Spinner X-Card

Hello! It is time for a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our challenge is on Quotes or Sayings. Our sponsor is Beccy's Place.

It is my sister's birthday month. I was looking through the freebie images in Beccy's Place but could not find an image suitable for her. So I used her favorite violet/lavender color as the color motif of this card.

When I saw this carousel image, it is just fit to make something interactive with it. I remembered watching an X-Card tutorial before but I could not find it anymore. I saw images of this card in Pinterest but no tutorial until I came across Lori Whitlock's video tutorial featuring this cut in her web store. I was going to do my own version of her card, do it from scratch, but she had a New Year sale in her digital store. It was a perfect opportunity to try out her digital images.

I downloaded the A2 X-Card digital cut to the Cricut Design Space. I also downloaded the carousel image to CDS. I re-sized the carousel to fit the circle window in the A2 X-Card. I duplicated the image and flipped it vertically. I printed the carousels using the Canon ts9512C printer. I colored the images first before cutting it with the Cricut. The images are small, some vision exercise for me. I used Prismacolor color pencils. I did not need too much shading since the image is small.

One feature that I like about the CDS is that it allows you to print now then cut later. I am glad I used this function. The image was very delicate that most likely I would have ripped it if I colored it after it got cut. I added details to the carousels with gel pens and Spectrum Noir Clear Shimmer pen. I was careful in adding shimmer to the image because it reactivates the water-based ink of the print out.

I used a violet cardstock and patterned paper for the X-card base. I heat embossed the Simon Says Stamp Circle Sayings on a violet cardstock with SSS Rose Gold embossing powder. I die cut this to create a circle frame using My Favorite Things Circle Stax die. I have the coordinating die for the SSS Circle Sayings but somehow I could not find the right sized circle to create the frame.

Assembling the card, I adhered the patterned paper to the cardstock. I used a liquid adhesive to give me enough wiggle time. I placed something heavy on top of it while the glue dries. I then adhered the circle embossed frames.

The digital cut comes with a tick mark for scoring. I changed this cuts to score marks using CDS but somehow, it still created the cuts. I reinforced this cuts by scoring it. I adhered a strong double adhesive tape on the top and bottom of the circle window in the first panel. I adhered a thin thread to this. From here, I started building the X-Card, adhering half of the panel to each other until I completed the X-Card.

I applied liquid glue to the back of the carousels then adhered this to the string. I applied something heavy to this while the glue dries.

This card lays flat for mailing. No real space for a handwritten sentiment but may a to and from in one of the panels will make this personalized.

Since the Incy Wincy Designs Challenge is about Quotes or Sayings, I added a sentiment flag to tie up with the theme. I heat embossed a sentiment from Mama Elephant Everyday Greetings stamp set on vellum with white embossing powder. I colored the backside of the vellum with a violet Copic marker to tie in with the color theme. I also colored a toothpick with a different shade of a violet Copic marker. I also added shimmer to the toothpick with Spectrum Noir Clear Shimmer pen. I adhered the toothpick to the back of the vellum with Kool Tak Clear Foam adhesive tape. I punched the edge with a square punch to create the fish tail.

Mixed Digi. and Clear Stamps Christmas Card

Hello, again. This is my second creation for our Christmas challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. I hope you join us. 

The image I am using is from Knitty Kitty Digis named Tree Kitty. I printed the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock. I colored the image with Zig Clean Color markers.  I tried using a water brush to soften the colors but since the paper is not a watercolor paper, it was difficult to blend the colors without warping the paper. I used a lighter shade to blend the darker color. I noticed that these markers are highly pigmented when used on regular cardstock. I extended the tree with the use of a waterproof pen.

I could not achieve a good blend for the background using the Zig markers. Instead of re-doing the coloring, I fussy cut the image. For the background, I blended Tim Holtz Broken China Distress Oxide on Neenah cardstock. I splattered water drops to this panel, and picked the water with paper towel. I added water to a Finetec Pearl paint, picked up the pigment and placed it on an acrylic block. I flicked this pigment puddle to the blended background. I allowed this to dry before adhering the cut-out digi. image.

I cut a Lawn Fawn Knit Picky patterned paper to 4 1/4” x 5 ½”. Using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Square Stackable die, I cut a window square on the patterned paper which is large enough for the digi. image to show through. I adhered the image panel, centering this in the window. Since the theme is Christmas, I created a scene by stamping a Christmas hat on Neenah paper and coloring it with Zig. This stamp is from Mama Elephant Cool Penguins stamp set. I fussy cut the image. I added Sakura Stardust clear pen to the hat trim. I added Glossy Accents to the colored portion of the hat. I die cut a speech bubble from Lawn Fawn Into The Woods coordinating die. I stamped, colored and die cut a fish from Lawn Fawn Fintastic stamp set. I adhered this to the bubble and added it to the scene. 

For the sentiment, I heat embossed the word ‘wish’ from an Ellen Hutson stamp set on a LF red patterned paper using Hero Arts silver embossing powder. I cut around the embossed sentiment, leaving a small border around the image. I adhered this to vellum and cut around it again with a border around it. I cut a strip of green LF patterned paper and adhered this to the panel. I added Spectrum Noir shimmer pen to this strip. I adhered the sentiment to the strip and added some alphabet stickers.

Shaker Ornament with a Digi Stamp

Hello! I am late in posting for Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. The challenge theme is Christmas. What a way to jump start your Christmas card making. This is one of my two creations for the blog challenge. Do come back to my blog to see the other project I created using our other challenge sponsor.

This is not my original planned card for the challenge. I printed the image from Fabrika Fantasy to a watercolor paper. I applied masking fluid to protect the images from the blending I did on the background using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons and water. I was able to achieve the background I want but when I removed the masking fluid, it made the images lighter. I could go for a no line coloring of the images but only the top portion of the images were masked. The bottom part of the images still has its lines intact.

Good thing, I was able to create a substitute for my failed first design. I printed the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock taking into consideration the size of the opening of the Lawn Fawn Snow Globe die. I colored the image with Prismacolor color pencils. It is a challenge to color the image since I printed it small. Just make sure the color pencils are sharp. Also, since the images are small, it does not require any blending at all.

I fussy cut the image so I can use a background I previously created using the the LF die. This background has dried Wendi Vecchi clear embossing paste on it. I die cut the window part and the back panel of the snow globe. I die cut the back panel twice. I used Neenah Classic Crest 110lb white cardstock.

The Lawn Fawn Snow Ready, Set, Snow stamp set coordinates with the LF Snow Globe die. I stamped the snow globe image to the window die cut using Versamark ink. I poured silver Hero Arts embossing powder to this, then heat set it. I masked the sides of the snow globe stand so I can blend Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress ink to the area. I lifted off some of the blending ink by stamping Lawn Fawn Woodgrain Backdrops to the area. I removed the mask. I colored the bottom stand with a small tip brown marker.

I adhered an acetate to the back of the snow globe window. I used a thin double sided tape to adhere the acetate. I used the solid snow globe die to cut the acetate. I adhered Darice foam strips around the window creating a well. I also adhered this foam strips to the rest of the back of the window snow globe die cut.

I adhered the background to the solid snow globe piece, using the window snow globe die cut as a guide. I adhered the colored digital image on top of the background. I adhered some Lawn Fawn Chunky glitter to the snow bank. I used a Sakura clear pen on the ice blocks for some shimmer. I poured more LF glitter to the center of the panel before sealing the shaker card with the window panel. If you have glitters escaping through the sides, just squirt some liquid glue through the sides and apply something heavy on top of the shaker card while it is drying.

I heat embossed the snow globe sentiment onto white cardstock using silver HA embossing powder. I die cut this sentiment using the coordinating die. I adhered this to the base of the snow globe using foam adhesive.

To make the snow globe into an ornament, I taped a thin ribbon to the back. I covered this with another solid snow globe die cut which I stamped first with To & From for easy giving.

This is not the first time I created paper ornaments. You can check my other two creations for more inspiration. One is a Phone and the other is an Angel.

Fall Colors Inspired Birthday Card

Hello! I am late in posting for Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog's current challenge on Happy Birthday. Our blog challenge sponsor is Rick St. Dennis.

I printed the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock. I am still inspired by the colors of a previously created card for a color challenge. This is my third card created using those colors. I just cannot get over it!

I colored the image with Copic markers, adding detail wherever I can using my pen supplies. I fussy cut the image leaving a small white border around.

For the background panel, I am using an old Basic Grey patterned paper. Using a My Favorite Things Spotlight stencil, I brushed in Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I used a Clarity stencil brush to color in the spotlight. I inked the side spotlights on the stencil as well but I did not like the effect. I did not want to pitch the patterned paper because it is the only one I have. To save the paper and hopefully, this project, I blended Tim Holtz Seedless Preserves on the sides of the center spotlight to cover the side spotlights. I  used the side of the stencil to cover the center spotlight while I added the purple ink. I brushed in Perfect Pearls Grape Vine to the purple blended area.

I embossed the sentiment from MFT BB Beary Special Birthday stamp set on the bottom of the spotlight. I feel that there was something lacking on the background despite using a patterned paper. There is just too much space on the sides of the spotlight. I did not want to add anything too overwhelming so I stamped little stars on this area using Versamark ink. The stars are from two different Mama Elephant stamp sets, Make a Wish and Confetti.

I adhered the colored digital image to the center of the spotlight using foam adhesive. My spotlight was off centered so I trimmed off the edge to center it. I adhered a fun foam to the back, then adhered this to a top folding note card.

I added Glossy Accent to the candle light and this finishes my card.

Prisma Colored Snowmen

Hello! It is time for a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. We are paying tribute to our friends at the southern hemisphere with a Winter In August Challenge as they end their winter season this month.

I am using an image from one of our lovely sponsors for this challenge, SheepSkiDesigns. The image is called Snowmen Selfie. This image is so cute! At first, I am intimated to color images like this which is a full-panel image. I actually enjoyed coloring it so now I am not intimidated at all.

I printed the image on Neenah Solar white cardstock. I resized the image to 2"x2" to make it proportional to the Polaroid frame die from Lawn Fawn Selfie die. I colored the snowmen with Prismacolor color pencils. I added black Sakura Glaze to the eyes and mouth. I also added orange Sakura Souffle to some of the noses of the snowmen for added detail.

I die cut the Lawn Fawn Polaroid frame on Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. I adhered the polaroid frame, centering the snowmen in the window. I cut off the excess with scissors. I also die cut the sentiment using this cardstock. The sentiment did not pop-out after die cutting which made coloring and adhering very easy. I colored the die cut sentiment with Uni-ball Signo white pen. After this has dried, I added Sakura Stardust pen. I added liquid adhesive to the back of the word die cut and firmly pressed it to the area where I want it adhered. I used a poking tool to keep the sentiment in place while I carefully pull up the negative die cut. I added Ranger Glossy Accents to the sentiment and set this to dry.

I die cut a patterned paper using Lawn Fawn Stitched Scalloped Rectangle Frames. This die cut measures 4 1/4"x5 1/2". I did not want my note card to show in between the scallops so I trimmed a kraft notecard to 3 15/16"x5 2/16" to match the size of the stitched rectangle within the die cut.  I adhered this to the back of the patterned paper, positioning the card within the stitched rectangle. 

I adhered the polaroid with the snowmen to the center of the patterned paper. I added Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti Mix as last detail.

Challenge #44~Anything Goes

Stitched Sentiment and Stitched Accent Card

Hello everyone. It is time for a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge blog. We are featuring a Tic-Tac-Toe board as seen below. I marked off the elements I chose to feature in my card to make a diagonal  line across the board.

Our sponsor for this challenge is Fabrika Fantasy. I am using a free image I downloaded from their website called Little Dragons. I have two (or maybe more) inspirations in creating this card. Since the image are dragons and there is another sequel to the How To Train Your Dragon, in which a new dragon is being introduced, I got inspired to color these dragons based on the main dragon characters of this animated movie. The other inspiration is the Polychromos coloring of Annabel Haines of The Blog @ Cartaway Cards and the owner of Knitty Kitty Digis. I just got to try her technique.

I printed the image on Neenah Kraft cardstock and just colored away with my limited Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. I only have a 12-piece set. With Anna's encouragement, I was able to color this image with this 12-piece set! I made several discoveries using these pencils. To make color variations with these pencils, especially if you only have few, color the image with the white color pencil then color the image with the desired color. How heavy you color also creates color variations. Since the Polychromos is a highly pigmented pencil, the heavier weight you put in while you color, the darker and bolder the color will be. Coloring while holding the color pencil in an angle creates a light touch of color. Another way to create variation. Adding details to the colored image using colored Sakura pens also adds a different look to the colored image.

I was in a look out for a striped rainbow patterned paper in my supplies. I cannot believe I have none. I can just create one, right? Using a Neenah Solar White cardstock and a stripe stamp from Simon Says Stamp Basic Stripes set, I stamped this stripe stamp using different colors of dye ink. I used a Misti Stamping Tool since I am using a solid stamp image, I had to re-stamp the image a couple of times to get good color coverage. At the same time, the Misti made the stripe stamping easy. Instead of moving the stamp to create the stripes, I was moving the paper upward and downward. The stamp remained aligned and straight throughout this repeated stamping.

The other element I chose to complete my tic-tac-toe is the stitching. I have an American Crafts Amy Tangerine Embroidery Stencil Kit for stitching letters. I lightly drew a line using a T-ruler and placed a mark on the center to guide me in positioning the letters. I poked holes on a Neenah Kraft cardstock using the template. I poked the holes again using a We R Memory Keepers needle to make the holes bigger to be able to thread a embroidery floss through it. I cut around the stitched letters, leaving a small kraft border around it. I adhered this to a pearl paper and cut around it again with a border around it. I applied clear Wink of Stella to the stitched kraft cardstock.

I die cut a square window on the striped panel using Lawn Fawn Stitched Square die. I adhered foam adhesive to the back of this window panel. I positioned the window so as the digital image is centered in the window. I created a strip of inked cardstock to mimic one of the stripes. When I was creating my striped panel, I did not like the red dye ink I used. I changed it to a pink ink later on. I inked a strip of white cardstock using the same pink dye ink. After the ink has dried, I cut this into a strip with the same width as the stripe stamp. Using the stitch stencil, I poked holes to create a cross pattern. I stitched the cross using a similar colored embroidery floss. I adhered this to the stripe I wanted to cover, then adhered the stitched sentiment on top of it.

After I got to this part, I felt something was missing. A supplementary sentiment is what will complete the card. After treating the area with an anti-static powder, I carefully stamped the sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I was very happy not to make a mess at this point since a lot of of my time has been invested into making this card already. I applied clear embossing powder to the area. I made sure that the heat gun is warm enough before zapping the powder with heat to avoid warping the foam adhesive behind the panel. The sentiment is from Avery Elle Peonies stamp set.

To finish the card, I adhered this panel on a top folding A2 note card. Thank you for visiting my blog and bearing with my long narrative as I share my journey in creating this card. I hope to see your lovely creations in the challenge blog.

Digi. Stamp on Colored Cardstock

Hello! I am running late on my blog post for the Incy Wincy Designs Challenge blog. The challenge for the next two weeks is on flowers. I printed the image on different colored cardstocks from Stampin' Up. I re-sized the flower image to 1.5" and printed it four times in each colored cardstock. I colored the images using Prisma color pencils using the same color for the corresponding cardstock. Since I am layering these images, on two of the images, I only colored the petals. And for the other two, I colored the flower centers. Although, I end up not using the flower centers.

Next, I fussy cut the flowers. This is the step where I would say took most of my time in creating this card. I re-colored the images after fussy cutting to try and hide any cutting imperfections. I die cut a small circle using felt and Simon Says Stamp Stitched Circles Wafer die. I used the small circle for this since it closely matches the size of the floral circle of the digi. I color matched the felt to the colors of the flowers. I layered the two same colored flowers on top of each other by adding a blob of Tim Holtz Distress Matte Medium to the center of one flower, then lightly placed the other flower on top of it making sure it is slightly offset. You can also use a foam adhesive for this step. I set this aside to dry.

I stamped the denim pocked on blue cardstock. The stamp is from Paper Smooches Denim & Daisies stamp set. I used a Versamark ink and heat embossed this using Wow! Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder. I fussy cut around the stamped image, leaving a small border around it. I heat embossed a sentiment using Hero Arts white embossing powder. The sentiment is from SSS What's Brewing stamp set. I punched holes on the top corners and hammered in some Making Memories Snaps. I love it when old embellishment put to good use.

I die cut leaves using a pearl green cardstock and SSS Beautiful Day wafer die. I did cut the leafy stem into two so I can distribute the leaves around the flowers.

For the background paper, I have some thin scrap grid patterned paper from Martha Stewart. I embossed the SSS Stitched Rectangle Wafer die. The impression is hard to see in photo but in real life, you can feel the impression created by the wafer die to the paper. I trimmed off the edges leaving a small border around it.

Onto assembling the front panel, I arranged the pocket die cut, the flowers and the leaves. Once I was happy with the arrangement, I started applying liquid glue to the back of the die cuts. Using a liquid glue allowed me to have some time to adjust the die cuts before the glue dries. The center flower was adhered using an foam adhesive.

For the note card, I am using a top folding white note card. I was going to mat my flower panel with a red cardstock but opted to use a red washi tape instead. I adhered the washi around the edges of the front of the white cardstock. I used a craft knife and a ruler to cut the inner corners and create diagonal lines for each corner where the tapes meet. I could have skipped this step since it is hardly noticeable once the flower panel was adhered on top of it.

I cut a fun foam and adhered it to the back of the flower panel then adhered this to the washi taped note card. As last detail, I added Nuvo drops to the flower centers and randomly to the the grid patterned paper.

Layered Digi. Stamp Card

We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. The challenge is for you to use your handwriting as part of the card design. Hand lettering is such a trend nowadays. I stopped doing cursive writing when I was in 4^th grade. My handwriting is in print as inspired by my father, who is an engineer, and who has a handwriting so lined up, he does not need a ruled paper. Modesty aside, I would get complements for my font-like handwriting. But with the cursive trend nowadays, I wished I spent a bit more time in cursive writing. I can’t have everything but I can definitely practice cursive handwriting.

Back to the card, I am playing with a new supply I bought from our local art store, ArtMart. It is a heavy vellum with the brand name of Clearprint. I printed the image supplied by our sponsor for the challenge, Rick St. Dennis, on this heavy vellum and on a watercolor paper. I am planning to layer these papers and just see what will be the effect. 

I colored the images using Zig Clean Color markers. I did not use a waterbrush in coloring the images since I want the colors to be bold. I applied a wash of watercolor to the background on the watercolor paper using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor, being careful not to have the waterbrush touch the colored images. The Zig markers I used are water-based. The color will bleed into anything wet. Ask me how I now (wink)? I did not add color to the background of the vellum paper since the color on the watercolor paper is showing through the vellum.

I am using a postage stamp edged die from Mama Elephant Peek-a-Frame Creative Cuts. I die cut a cream cardstock using this die. I trimmed the colored panels to fit this stamped edged panel but I had to line up the images first, secure the sides with a non-tacky tape before using a trimmer. I added some gold embossing to the edges of the vellum paper by running an edge at time through a Versamark pad, then pouring Wow! Gold Pearl embossing powder before heat setting it. Just an added touch. I added my handwriting to the vellum paper. I practiced first on scrap paper, and when I was happy with how the sentiment looked, I positioned the vellum on top of this practice handwritten sentiment and traced it with a black Sakura Glaze pen. My sentiment is inspired by the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s movie ‘You’ve Got Mail.’ 

I adhered the vellum piece on top of the watercolor piece using a Kool Tak clear foam roll tape, cutting it into small pieces and adhering it to the back of the vellum piece. As for the top part, I just adhered it straight on to the watercolor paper by applying dots of liquid adhesive to the back of my handwritten sentiment. I adhered this to the postage stamp die cut.

I cut a reddish-purple cardstock from Stampin’ Up to 4 ¼” x 5 ½” panel. I dry embossed this with an embossing folder. I adhered this to a top folding A2 sized note card, then adhered the postage stamp panel onto this embossed panel.

My Sister and Phone Case Inspired Card

We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. We are calling this challenge as Phone Case Inspired Challenge. This is the photo of the phone case provided.

I got attracted to the colors of this phone case so I am using these rainbow colors for my card. I am using a Hero Arts Stencil and Strathmore Bristol paper for the front panel. I blended several Tim Holtz Distress inks on the stencil making a rainbow pattern, although I was inking the stencil, skipping a color from the last color I used. I lined up the inks in front of me so I will know which color to use next. I was doing this skipping pattern so I can use the skipped color when I move the stencil downward and to the left.

Some of my ink pads are extremely wet. Despite pouncing the blender to a scrap paper first before inking the stencil, I still end up with bleeding in some areas. Also, I should have wiped off the excess ink from my stencil before moving on to another color. I could have done this differently but I think it still turned out well. 

Our sponsor for this challenge is Little Blue Button. I am using the digital image called Chatting Charlie for my card. We were supplied with several awesome images but this one caught my eye because it reminds me of my sister and her cats. I colored the girl image with her in mind. I colored her shirt violet because that is my sister's favorite color. She has a pink Sony laptop, explaining the color of the laptop. She has a lot of new kittens. One of my favorites is a black kitten which I called Toothless, from the How To Train Your Dragon movie. To keep the color medium all tied up, I am using Tim Holtz Distress markers, using a water brush to pick up the color from a palette. 

If you visit my blog, I previously created an ATC card and colored the background with chalk inks. I did the same technique here. I die cut this image using Lawn Fawn Stitched Square die. I do have to blend more ink on the edges. I used Salty Ocean Tim Holtz Distress ink this time since this area is far from the colored images.  I adhered fun foam to the back, then adhered a black cardstock to matte this printed image. For the sentiment, I stamped a word bubble sentiment from Lawn Fawn Into the Woods stamp set with Versafine Onyx black ink. I heat set this before die cutting it with the coordinating die. I adhered this to the top left side of the colored panel. To make the sentiment pop, I traced the letters with a white Uniball Signo pen. I adhered this to the stenciled panel. I then, adhered this panel to a top folding white note card.

I added some details on some areas with different pens I have on hand. I used Sakura Souffle pens on the flower on the laptop. I applied clear Spectrum Noir Shimmer pen on the mug. I colored the spoon with a silver metallic pen. I colored the girl's eyes with white Uniball Signo pen and black Sakura Glaze pen. I used this black pen on the cat's eyes as well.
