Fall Colors Inspired Birthday Card

Hello! I am late in posting for Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog's current challenge on Happy Birthday. Our blog challenge sponsor is Rick St. Dennis.

I printed the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock. I am still inspired by the colors of a previously created card for a color challenge. This is my third card created using those colors. I just cannot get over it!

I colored the image with Copic markers, adding detail wherever I can using my pen supplies. I fussy cut the image leaving a small white border around.

For the background panel, I am using an old Basic Grey patterned paper. Using a My Favorite Things Spotlight stencil, I brushed in Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I used a Clarity stencil brush to color in the spotlight. I inked the side spotlights on the stencil as well but I did not like the effect. I did not want to pitch the patterned paper because it is the only one I have. To save the paper and hopefully, this project, I blended Tim Holtz Seedless Preserves on the sides of the center spotlight to cover the side spotlights. I  used the side of the stencil to cover the center spotlight while I added the purple ink. I brushed in Perfect Pearls Grape Vine to the purple blended area.

I embossed the sentiment from MFT BB Beary Special Birthday stamp set on the bottom of the spotlight. I feel that there was something lacking on the background despite using a patterned paper. There is just too much space on the sides of the spotlight. I did not want to add anything too overwhelming so I stamped little stars on this area using Versamark ink. The stars are from two different Mama Elephant stamp sets, Make a Wish and Confetti.

I adhered the colored digital image to the center of the spotlight using foam adhesive. My spotlight was off centered so I trimmed off the edge to center it. I adhered a fun foam to the back, then adhered this to a top folding note card.

I added Glossy Accent to the candle light and this finishes my card.

Challenge #10~Anything Goes

Layered Digi. Stamp Card

We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. The challenge is for you to use your handwriting as part of the card design. Hand lettering is such a trend nowadays. I stopped doing cursive writing when I was in 4^th grade. My handwriting is in print as inspired by my father, who is an engineer, and who has a handwriting so lined up, he does not need a ruled paper. Modesty aside, I would get complements for my font-like handwriting. But with the cursive trend nowadays, I wished I spent a bit more time in cursive writing. I can’t have everything but I can definitely practice cursive handwriting.

Back to the card, I am playing with a new supply I bought from our local art store, ArtMart. It is a heavy vellum with the brand name of Clearprint. I printed the image supplied by our sponsor for the challenge, Rick St. Dennis, on this heavy vellum and on a watercolor paper. I am planning to layer these papers and just see what will be the effect. 

I colored the images using Zig Clean Color markers. I did not use a waterbrush in coloring the images since I want the colors to be bold. I applied a wash of watercolor to the background on the watercolor paper using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor, being careful not to have the waterbrush touch the colored images. The Zig markers I used are water-based. The color will bleed into anything wet. Ask me how I now (wink)? I did not add color to the background of the vellum paper since the color on the watercolor paper is showing through the vellum.

I am using a postage stamp edged die from Mama Elephant Peek-a-Frame Creative Cuts. I die cut a cream cardstock using this die. I trimmed the colored panels to fit this stamped edged panel but I had to line up the images first, secure the sides with a non-tacky tape before using a trimmer. I added some gold embossing to the edges of the vellum paper by running an edge at time through a Versamark pad, then pouring Wow! Gold Pearl embossing powder before heat setting it. Just an added touch. I added my handwriting to the vellum paper. I practiced first on scrap paper, and when I was happy with how the sentiment looked, I positioned the vellum on top of this practice handwritten sentiment and traced it with a black Sakura Glaze pen. My sentiment is inspired by the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s movie ‘You’ve Got Mail.’ 

I adhered the vellum piece on top of the watercolor piece using a Kool Tak clear foam roll tape, cutting it into small pieces and adhering it to the back of the vellum piece. As for the top part, I just adhered it straight on to the watercolor paper by applying dots of liquid adhesive to the back of my handwritten sentiment. I adhered this to the postage stamp die cut.

I cut a reddish-purple cardstock from Stampin’ Up to 4 ¼” x 5 ½” panel. I dry embossed this with an embossing folder. I adhered this to a top folding A2 sized note card, then adhered the postage stamp panel onto this embossed panel.

Mass Produced Digital Image Angel Give-away

The first time I created this project for our DT post, I knew right away that it is something I would want to create to give-away to my Kindergartner's class on their Christmas party. I've started really early coloring the images so I was left with the cutting and detailing during the last weeks before the party. The sad thing is my grade school sons got hit by illness during their last two days of school, making them miss school including their Christmas party.

The details on how to create this ornament are in a previous post as linked here, Digital Image Christmas Ornament. This is easy to re-create with a digital image because you can resize and mirror print the image. Some stamp sets come with mirror images, making this project easy to re-create, or you can do mirror stamping technique.

Digital Image Christmas Ornament

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. The challenge is entitled "Not A Card." The challenge title speaks for itself. Create anything as long as it is not a card. I am using a digital image from our challenge sponsor, Rick St. Dennis. I printed the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock. I also printed it as a mirror image.  I colored the image using Copic markers. I adhered the images back to back with the use of a light tracer light box to get a perfect alignment of the image. I suggest to use a temporary adhesive on the top portion of the angel. This will allow you to add the thread loop after fuzzy cutting the images. Then, that's the time you can add a stronger adhesive to seal the mirrored images, sandwiching the thread loop. Ask me how I know? =)

I fuzzy cut the image. I added a metallic thread in between the mirrored images using a strong adhesive. I painted a light blue Stickles to the angel's dress. I drew in the piping of the angel's gown with a black glitter gel pen. I colored the stars in the angel's dress with a yellow Spica glitter pen. I applied clear Wink of Stella to the angel's wings. And, I heat embossed Wow! White Puff Powder to the clouds. I used a glue pen to make the powder adhere before heat setting it. I applied clear Nuvo Crystal Drops on the angel's halo, and allowed this to dry.

I plan to create a batch of these handmade ornament to be given to my son's class for Christmas. I have a long time to work on that, right?

Watercolored Background for a Digital Image

The theme of today’s challenge at Incy Wincy Designs is being on the Wild Side. It could be something created outside your usual or something about wild animals. The image I chose from our sponsor for this challenge, Rick St. Dennis, is Aloha Nui. It reminds me of the Disney character, Moana, one of my youngest son’s favorite. I could have created a card with marine animals with the girl image but I don’t have any marine animal stamps or images. So, I am creating something out of my comfort zone.

I am not a free hand artist, and a free hand paint artist for that matter. But I decided to challenge myself to create a beach back drop for the Hawaiian girl. I watched a couple of You Tube videos, just to give me an idea on how to create one. I used the Gansai Tambi watercolors for this project. I added detailing to the painted trees using Prismacolor Color Pencils. I trimmed this to fit a top folding A2 card.

I printed the image on Neenah white cardstock. I colored the image using Prismacolor Color pencils. I could not believe how well I did with blending the colors this time. I did not even use the blender pen on this one. I think the type of paper in coloring, for whatever medium, matters a lot. From now on, Neenah will be my go to paper for Prismacolor coloring.

I fuzzy cut the image after coloring it. I added shimmer to the flowers using a clear Spectrum Noir shimmer pen.

I watercolored another piece of Canson watercolor paper to create a ground for the image as I layer it. I die cut this panel using Lawn Fawn Hill Side border but used the non-stitched side of the cut border. The sentiment is from different stamp sets, Hampton Art and Avery Elle. I stamped this using Versafine Onyx Black ink and embossed it with clear powder. I adhered this to the watercolor panel using foam adhesive. I adhered the image with foam adhesive, too.
