Flipping Father's Day Card With An Interactive Surprise

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog! Father's card is just around the corner. I am inspired to create a card for this special day. At the same time, I would like to join in the Lawnfawnatics latest challenge Dies Only. I was tempted to use a stamp on this card but decided not to use one and just use dies to keep up with the challenge theme. The Lawn Fawn dies I used on this card are listed below:

I am so glad that most of the small negative die cuts of the lattice backdrop remained attached to the backdrop after running the die and the patterned paper through the die cut machine. After I adhered this panel to a side folding A2 note card, I adhered the pieces that fell off. I used this panel as a background for the flipping mechanism.

The heart pops out on the last part of the flipping mechanism. Ideally, the pull out panel should be kept flat as possible so the flipping will go smoothly. I used die cuts with some of the die cuts overlapping. This gets caught on the tabs on the back of the flipping mechanism. To solve this issue, I added powder to the overlapping areas of the die cuts. I also loosened the feet on the back of the flipping mechanism to give more space to the overlapped die cuts to slide through.

Magic Iris Shaped Father's Day Card

Hello! Welcome back to my card. I am excited to share my card with you today. I had the Lawn Fawn Magic Iris die set in my craft stash for a while now. I only get to use it this week. My first try didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be. I almost wanted to call it quits but I am glad I did not because I just love how this card turned out. 

Lawn Fawn has a video tutorial on how use this die set which I am linking here, Magic Iris. I highly recommend that you watch the video before using this die set. I had to watch it again on my second attempt on using this die just to be sure I am doing it right. 

My colors are inspired by the latest Inkspirational Challenge which I also linked below in case you are interested to see and join their challenge. I usually look around at other blog challenges to find inspiration especially when I hit a wall while creating something. 

The latest Lawnfawnatics Challenge (also linked below) is Dies Only. True enough, this card used only dies. The sentiment die cuts are from LF Cole's ABCs die set. The smiley face is from the LF Outside In Stitched Flower die set. The glitter stars are from my die cut box. I apologize because I am notd sure which die I used for the stars. I usually die cut little shapes ahead of time and store it in a bea box so it is ready for use. I am sure you can find any star die in your craft stash that you can use for this purpose. 

I added a shadow to the sentiment inside the iris which was not my original plan. I die cut the letters on light peach cardstock at first but I didn't like the look of it on the dark peach cardstock. I die cut the letters on light green cardstock. I adhered the light peach letter die cut to the back of the light green letter die cuts, slightly offsetting it for a shadow effect. 

For the shaped card, I die cut the dark peach cardstock using a circle die slightly larger than the LF Magic Iris base. I die cut two circle pieces. I scored the second circle 1/2" from the top. I applied glue to this flap. I adhered this to the back of the assembled magic iris die cuts, making sure that the orientation of the card is relative to how the sentiment is laid. 

As a tip, for the mechanism to continue working on this shaped card, only apply adhesive to the stabilizers on both front and back of the assembled magic iris die cuts.

Banner Shaped Mini-Card Front

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card features products from Kat Scrappiness. I created a shaped mini-card front. The kraft cardstock is just a panel that holds the mini-card. 

I began by die cutting different shades of green cardstock and a gold cardstock using the KS Stitched Slimline Strips dies. I adhered this to a typewriter paper which was cut a bit larger than the banner die that I used on this card. I made sure that the strips are flushed next to each other. I also created an order of adhering the strips. I die cut this using a die from the KS Nesting Fishtail Banner dies. 

To create the mini note card, I am using a top folding white A2 note card. I positioned the banner die a bit above the scored line of the note card. I ran this through the die cutting machine. I adhered the striped banner die cut to the front of this mini note card. I stamped a sentiment to the inside of mini-card.

To embellish the front of the card, I die cut letters on gold mirror cardstock to spell 'Daddy.' I adhered another set on plain cardstock, and adhered this to the back of the letters for some dimension.

I die cut the word 'Hi' on white cardstock. This die is part of the KS Nesting Fishtail Banner dies. I also die cut an extra one and adhered it together for dimension. Instead of using the tiddle, I die cut the smallest star from the same die set. I also die cut this twice and adhered one star over the other.

For the subsentiment, I heat embossed this on white cardstock and die cut this into a strip. I also die cut extras and adhered it on top of each for dimension. I used Versamark ink for stamping and Wow! Metallic Gold Rich Super Fine embossing powder. 

I adhered all of die cuts on the front of the striped mini-notecard. I added more star die cuts and small star sequins.

For the mini card holder, I trimmed a kraft cardstock at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I embossed this panel using the KS Buffalo Plaid Background die. To achieve this look, you will need an embossing mat. Depending on your machine, you might need to add shims to get a good, embossed impression.

I swiped the Versamark ink on the edges of the panel. I poured the same embossing powder to these areas then heat set it. 

I adhered the mini card to the panel.

Father's Day Scene Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Father's Day is right around the corner. I created this card for my husband, the father of four boys. He might still be out of town on Sunday. At least, card is already made. 

Today's Lawnfawnatics challenge is truly a challenge for me. The only stamp that I have which suits the theme of Beach vs. Mountains is the LF Dad + Me stamp set. It has a mountain stamp which was perfect for the scene that I created. The nice thing about LF products is that you can mix and match the products to create a story, which is what I did on this card. 

I stamped the images that will make up my scene on white cardstock. I did partial stamping on the mountain and the tree since these stamps have solid parts on it. I used the Misti to do partial stamping. I inked the solid part of the stamp with brown for the mountain, and green for the tree. I inked the peak of the mountain with gray ink and used brown ink for the tree stump. I fussy cut the images leaving a thin white border around it. 

I stamped the bears on white cardstock. The bear stamps are also from the LF Dad + Me stamp set. I colored the bears with Copic markers. I fussy cut the bears leaving a white border around it. I stamped the eyeglasses on the larger bear. 

I die cut a white cardstock using the frame from the LF #Awesome coordinating die set. I die cut two sets. I inked the inside piece with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks to create a sky and grass background. I blended the green ink on the extra inside piece. I heat set the piece with the sky and grass background. I heat embossed some clouds on the sky using clear embossing powder. The cloud stamp is from LF Spooky Village stamp set. I colored the cloud with a white Wink of Stella, followed with a coating of clear Wink of Stella for some shimmer.

For the green inked inside piece, I die cut this to create a grass ground for the bears. The die is from the LF Platform Pop-up die set.

I added some snow to the mountain peaks by coloring the snow peaks with an embossing pen, then pouring in Wow! White Puff embossing powder. then heat setting it. I overlapped the mountains to create a mountain border.

I colored the tree trunks with a brown Copic marker. I positioned the bears then started tucking in the trees behind the bears, making sure to cover the bottom of the mountain, just so that it creates the illusion that the mountains are farther, and that the trees are closer. I also made sure that the tree trunks are hidden behind the grass die cut. I trimmed off any excess hanging off the side of this panel.

I adhered the grass die cut with a thick foam adhesive. I adhered the bears using a thinner foam adhesive. I added Glossy Accents to the glasses. I set this to dry.

For the outside piece of the frame, I inked one of the frames with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink. I adhered the extra frame to the back of this. I pieced in the scene to the frame. I secured both pieces with tape. 

For the sentiment, I inked a white cardstock with TH Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink. I heat set this to speed dry it. I partially die cut a banner to this blended piece using a die from the LF Fancy Folded Banner die set. I just needed a banner long enough to fit the sentiment. The sentiment is from the LF #Awesome stamp set. After I die cut the banner, I pieced this back into the negative space, and temporarily taped it on the back. This serves as a stabilizer for the banner when I stamp the sentiment. After prepping the site with anti-static powder, I stamped the sentiment to the banner using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I embossed this with clear embossing powder. I die cut an extra piece of the banner which I adhered to the back of the sentiment banner for a little bit of dimension.

For the card panel, I die cut a weave patterned paper using a 4" X 5 1/4" stitched rectangle die. I adhered the scene panel and the sentiment banner to this. I matted this with a light gray cardstock.

Sketch & Color Inspired Card

 

Hello! I created this card to participate in My Favorite Things' Blog Challenge. I created one card to participate in two of their challenges, the Sketch Challenge and the Color Challenge. At the same time, I created this card for Father's Day. 

I die cut a white card stock using My Favorite Things Die-namics Mason Jar Mug. I blended Tim Holtz Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink using Picket Fence Studios Life Changing Brush. I die cut a yellow patterned paper using the label die included in the die set. I heat embossed the sentiment on this label. I used the MFT First Place Sentiment Stamps Sets. I blended TH Antique Linen Distress Ink to this label to give it some depth. I also die cut 2 more labels and adhered this on top of each other for some dimension. 

For the stars, I die cut the wand part using a stem die from the MFT Fresh Cut Flowers die set. I die cut this multiple times on grey cardstock. I adhered 3 stems on top of each other for some dimension. I die cut 6 stars using the same grey card stock. I adhered a double sided adhesive tape on the same grey cardstock. I die cut the stars on this cardstock with the adhesive side up. I removed the release paper and dipped the star on TH Distress Glitter Pumice Stone. I burnish the glitter to the adhesive tape using a bone folder. I adhered a star on the back of the glittered star. I sandwiched the stem in between this star and the other star die cut. I placed something heavy on top of the stars while the glue dries. 

I die cut a silver mirror cardstock using SSS Stitched Rectangle die. I adhered the mason jar and the stars to this. 

I trimmed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" gray cardstock. Following the sketch, I die cut a border using the Simon Says Stamp Air Vent Border die. I cut a strip of blue glittered cardstock. I blended TH Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink to this glitter paper to darken the shade. I adhered this to the back of the gray cardstock panel, making sure it is shows through the vent holes created by the die.

I adhered the mirror cardstock to this panel with foam tape.

Accordion Father's Day Card

 

I have several things in mind as I create this card. First, is my inspiration for this card, which of course, is my husband, the father of my 4 sons. Second, when I make a card, I sometimes look around blog challenges to see if I can come up with a card that meets its challenge rules. And last but not the least, since this is a card for someone special, I want to include my sons' participation in creating this card. Their involvement makes this card even more special and meaningful to me and I am sure, to their dad as well.

I die cut 4 mason jars using Canson Watercolor paper. The die is from My Favorite Things Die-Namics Mason Jar Mug. I know there is a rule of uneven numbers but each jar represents a son of ours. I color the jars using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink based on MFT blog's Color Challenge. I stamped a star from MFT First Place Sentiments stamp set on the blue mason jar. Good thing, I used the Misti Stamping tool to stamp the star on the inked mason jar. Despite using Versafine Onyx ink, which usually gives good coverage, I had to re-stamp the star several times. I heat embossed the star using clear embossing powder.

The sentiment 'Best Dad' is also from the same stamp set. After I used the anti-static tool on the star, I stamped the sentiment using Versamark ink. I used a clear acrylic block to stamp this time. I made sure my hand will not shift given the slick surface of the embossed star. I heat embossed this sentiment using white embossing powder. The effect of this technique, heat embossing on heat embossed image, is so cool. It looks like it was created using a one step process. 

I also die cut the straw and the label to create a secondary sentiment for the front panel. The sentiment is from MFT Mason Jar Labels stamp set. The sentiment is stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

The front and back panels are 4 3/4" x 6" brown cardstock. An odd size but this is based from the size of the accordion cards, as detailed later. To add a background to this, I stamped an MFT Diagonal Sripes Cling rubber stamp. I rotated the rubber stamp to create vertical lines instead of diagonal lines. I used a Tsukineko Delicata White Shimmer Ink pad. 

I adhered the mason jars next, using foam adhesive on the blue mason jar and the label.

The accordion part is made of 4 print-out cards of a freebie from Crafts Unleashed. I only used the second part of the print-out. I think it would be fun to have the boys fill it up. They also have a chance to show their artistic talent since there is a space to draw. I printed this using a laser printer so I was able to foil the portrait border using the Minc Machine. I adhered a strip of white cardstock to the back of the cards to connect it. I adhered the card panels to the ends of the accordion.

I adhered the Photo Play Catch of the Day cardstock to the back. This is a late add-in detail to this card. The first time I saw this cardstock, I knew I would be able to use it to create a card for my husband since he loves to fish. But it wasn't available in stores as a sheet until Checkered Cottage agreed to purchase a part of the line and reserve this cardstock for me.

Challenge #198~Anything Goes/Optional Twist Stamping With An Embossing Folder

Father's Day License Plate Card

I was asked by a friend to create a card for her husband for Father's Day. This is the same friend of who asked me to create a birthday card for her husband, too. (http://ienjoywhatido.blogspot.com/2016/02/masculine-interactive-birthday-card.html) 

For this card, I turned to the Cricut Design Space and browsed under the Father's Day category. I found this License Plate cut file from the Holiday Cakes cartridge. After duplicating the base cut, I rotated this 180 degrees and welded both the base cuts to create a card base. I added the scoring line on the middle.

I designed and customized the layer cut by adding my friend's husband's name on the top. I chose a font close to the fonts on the layer cut. I cut the layers three times in 3 different colored cardstocks, red, blue and white, to re-create the Illinois license plate where they live. The size of this layer is 12" x 6", just like a real license plate. With the card base, this is a huge card since the card base is slightly larger than the layer cut to matte it. I kept all the negative die cuts since I will be in-laying this later on.

Using a Post-It Full Adhesive Roll, I masked the upper portion of the white layered cut. I also applied this on the back of the layered cut. This is where I attached the negative cuts using the letter cuts as guide. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Inks on this bottom area, starting with the lighter blue shade of Tumbled Glass, then blending in Faded Jeans.

This is where the tedious process begins. I first applied a double sided tape to the back of the white layered cut. This will make the in-laying process easier. With the exposed adhesive from the double sided tape, all I needed to do is piece in the die cuts. This is why I kept the negative die cuts.

I layered the different die cuts by adhering one on top of the other using wet adhesive for more wiggle time. I made sure that the die cut color that will be on top is the same as the color of the Illinois license plate. I adhered a silver Duck Tape around the edges of the front of the card base to serve as the matte. I adhered the layer cut to the card base using a strong double sided adhesive tape for stability. For added shimmer, I applied Wink of Stella to the stars and the main sentiment, No. 1 Dad.

Monochromatic Father's Day Card

Simon Says Stamps Monday Challenge is Monochrome and their Wednesday Challenge which will be ending in a few hours is Anything Goes featuring Technique Tuesday. When Archiver's was still open, I bought stamps by TT because of Ali Edwards. I rarely use their stamps nowadays with all the stamp companies coming out with their releases. So with both challenges in mind, I challenged myself to create one card. I didn't have a special occasion in mind when I was creating this card but it eventually turn out to become a Father's Day card which is very timely.

I am using the TT Ali Edwards All My Heart stamp set. At first, I was planning to stamp all the squared sentiments to create the background but it didn't have the same sizes. The clear stamps kept sticking together making it hard to lay out the stamps. I just picked one stamp and repeatedly stamp this on Strathmore Bristol paper using the Misti tool. The paper is cut at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. I prepared the surface with an anti-static tool before I stamped the sentiment. I used Versafine Onyx Black for ink and embossed this using clear powder.

After the panel is filled, I blended various shades of grey inside the squares. I used a sponge dauber to do the job. I am not really being careful blending it. I would rather achieve different shades and am not particular if I go out of the lines. I used 5 shades of gray from 3 different companies (Close To My Heart, Hero Arts and Memento.) I applied white Wink of Stella to the spaces in between the squares. I don't think it is noticeable but I am having a hard time appreciating the effect of this particular Wink of Stella anyway.

I die cut a window on this panel using SSS This Is The Life Frames Cut die. I positioned the window slightly to the lower left of the panel. I also cut a black cardstock using this die. This metal die cuts 2 pieces, an outline piece and a solid piece. I used the black outline as an accent to the window.

For the sentiment, I die cut a dark gray and a white cardstock using the TT Say It Happy DIY Steel die. I stamped the rest of the sentiment from the TT Say It Happy stamp set on a black cardstock strip using Versamark ink. I embossed this using WOW! Silver Pearl Embossing powder.

I adhered a light gray cardstock to the back of the window panel. I adhered the black outline to the window. I adhered the gray happy sentiment on top of the white sentiment slightly off setting this to create a shadow effect. I adhered this to the window area and adhered the sentiment strip on the bottom. I ended with an empty space on the right upper corner of the window. To fill this, I adhered some sequences. For the final touch, I applied clear Wink of Stella to the die cut sentiment. I adhered this panel to a top folding A2 card.
