Cupcake Shaped Card

My 5-year old is such a sweet boy and he wanted to make something special for his friend in class who celebrated his birthday last Thursday. He would like to give him a cupcake, not the real one, since birthday treats are not allowed in their school anymore. To make him involved, we looked through the images I have access to in Cricut Design Space. This is the cupcake he chose and it is now up to me to make it into a card.

This is a layered cut. I duplicated the base layer, flipped one of the base cupcake cuts vertically, and welded the two base cupcakes to create a card. I started cutting the next layers using cardstock. The cupcake wrapper is in the same cut as the heart topper. Using the icing layer as a guide, I cut off the wrapper portion. I ran this through a Fiskar Paper Crimper tool. I adhered all layers on top of each other. I added Stickles to the chocolate sponge cake part of the cupcake. I applied clear Wink of Stella to the heart topping. I applied Ranger Glossy Accents to the heart. I set this aside to dry.

I stamped a happy birthday sentiment to the inside of the card finishing off this cupcake shaped card.

Thank you for visiting my blog! Have a blessed & brilliant day!

Pearl Painted Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

Our new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog for the next two weeks is Silver and Gold. Very timely, I should say, with the holidays fast approaching. Our sponsor is Fabrika Fantasy. I am using the Young Deer image.

I printed the image on Canson watercolor paper. I painted the image using Finetec Coliro Watercolor Pearl Gold & Silver set. I love this watercolor set. See the shimmer on the deer on the next photo. There are other Finetec sets available, and you can also purchase them individually. I painted the eyes and the mouth with Kuretake Gansai Tambi. I used an ink jet printer to print the image which reacted with the water when I painted the image. Using the original image as a guide, I used a fine tip black marker to trace the image outline and the details.

I used the Cricut Design Space to cut the antlers for this deer. I pounced this on Versamark ink and dipped it on silver Hero Arts embossing powder. I repeated this process twice to make it thicker. I cut these antlers twice. I adhered the extra antlers to the back of the embossed antlers for extra dimension. I adhered these antlers to the head of the deer.

I added red Stickles to the nose of deer. Now, my deer looks like Rudolph the reindeer.

For the background, I am using Canson watercolor paper. I die cut this panel using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles. I masked the edges using a low tacky painter's tape. I applied a wash of water to the open rectangular area. I used the Kuretake Gansai Tambi to add color to the area, using a dark blue and purple to create the night sky. I dried this with a heat gun.

I covered the area with a Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil, secured it with tape at the edges. I applied a translucent Wendi Vecchi embossing paste to the stencil, making sure I covered the holes with embossing paste. I lifted the stencil off, making sure to clean the stencil and palette knife right away. I poured Tim Holtz Distress Pumice Stone Glitter over the area to adhere to the embossing paste while pouring off the excess. I set this aside to dry.

For the sentiment, I am using a bold sentiment from Mama Elephant Season's Greetings stamp set. I stamped this on gold vellum using Versamark ink and heat embossed it with American Crafts Zing Metallic Gold embossing powder. I fuzzy cut around the sentiment leaving a small border around the words.

I applied dots of Ranger Multi Medium Matte on the back of the vellum sentiment and the painted image. I adhered this to the stitched panel.

To finish off the card, I cut a silver cardstock at 4 1/4"x 5 1/2". I added cross-stitched details on the edge of this silver cardstock using Lawn Fawn Stitched Borders. I adhered this to the front of a top folding A2 note card. I adhered fun foam to the back of the watercolored panel, then adhered this to the silver cardstock.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Let me greet you as early as now, have a Merry Christmas! Enjoy the season!

Wobbly Cricut Die Cut Thank You Card

Our chiropractor was nice enough to give us a gift card to Serendipity, a local ice cream shop here at Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri. My sons enjoyed the treat. To show how much we appreciated his kindness, I created this card with ice cream as theme, too.

I cut the image from Cricut Simply Charmed cartridge. I cut the ice cream cone in layers using cardstock. With the ice cream layer, I applied white Wendi Vecchi embossing paste. I didn't apply the paste smoothly to achieve the texture of ice cream. I applied American Crafts Grapefruit embossing powder. I set this aside to dry. I am not sure how long it took for this to dry but I left it overnight. After which, I heat embossed it. I adhered the layers using Ranger Multi-Matte Medium glue.

For the back layer which was cut in white cardstock, I stamped stripes using Simon Says Basic Stripes stamp set. The ink I used is Avery Elle Raspberry pigment ink. I adhered 1/8" double sided tape over the stripes. I poured Elizabeth Crafts Designs Cool Diamond Silk powder over the tape. After I shook the excess, I rubbed the glittered strips with my finger. I inked the edge of the ice cream part on this layer with the same Avery Elle ink.

To work on the card base, I am using a kraft Bazzill cardstock. I am fortunate to have a Simple Stories Beat the Heat patterned paper from the Summer Days collection which has ice cream cones on the B-side. I actually bought this patterned paper because of my obsession with clouds, which is the A-side of this patterned paper. I die cut this patterned paper using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die. I also used the same set of dies to create a border rectangle on a pearlized paper. I also used this to die cut another kraft cardstock.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Altenew Label Love on kraft cardstock using  Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I poured white embossing powder to this, then heat set it. I trimmed off the excess. I traced the letters using a 0.3 Sepia Copic multiliner. I adhered this to the bottom of the innermost stitched rectangle. I applied a Darice Mini Action Wobbler to the back of the die cut ice cream. I adhered this on top of the sentiment.

I hope you enjoy viewing my blog. Thank you for stopping by. Have a blessed and brilliant day!

City Pop-Up Card using Cricut

This card is inspired by my soon to be 11 year old son who loves the Cricut Destination cartridge so much. When I bought this cartridge, I knew he will love it. And, he does! He loves interactive cards, too. So I mashed those two ideas together and came up with this card.

The Cricut Design Space has been updated. It still does not work with Safari but otherwise, the upgrade is great! I am sure I have not discovered all of its features but so far, the feature that I love the most is while the current layer is cutting, I can edit where the image will be cut on the next layer. In this way, I can maximize a cutting mat more and not overuse the top corners of a cutting mat. Isn't that great?! If you have a favorite CDS feature, I would love to know it!

To create the pop-up mechanism, I cut strips of patterned paper & scored it in different widths, from a  1/4" to 1". I overlapped the ends using a strong adhesive to form a square or rectangle. I attached this to the back of the die cut and card panel. I also used square acetate in some areas for more not too obvious support in the pop-up movement. The key to this type of pop-up card is to train the scored squares and rectangles by closing the card shut, and opening it wide, pressing the scored squares rectangles at both times.

The background was splattered with gold Finetec watercolor. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from a Hero Arts Fancy Uppercase Die.

For the front, I die cut a gray cardstock using the scallop border die from American Crafts Daydreamer. I centered a globe stamp from Concord & 9th Map Love stamp set using Versamark ink. I applied Platinum Ranger embossing powder to this. I die cut the globe and a circle window using stacked circle dies from My Favorite Things. To create a flat shaker card, I cut a scrap plastic wrapping to a size big enough to cover the circle window. This gave me a plastic pocket attached only on one side. I used the We R Memory Keepers Fuse tool to secure the other edges after I poured in some Studio Calico sequins. I attached this to the back of the window using a double adhesive tape. This panel is then attached to the front of the card. I used the Altenew Label Love for the front sentiment, stamping it with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossing this using clear powder.

Yrwin loves to play with the Cricut Design Space. I still have this project in my account cloud. He saw it...grrr! I told him it is for a project. He didn't asked further which is good or else the surprise is gone.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a blessed and brilliant day!

Father's Day License Plate Card

I was asked by a friend to create a card for her husband for Father's Day. This is the same friend of who asked me to create a birthday card for her husband, too. (http://ienjoywhatido.blogspot.com/2016/02/masculine-interactive-birthday-card.html

For this card, I turned to the Cricut Design Space and browsed under the Father's Day category. I found this License Plate cut file from the Holiday Cakes cartridge. After duplicating the base cut, I rotated this 180 degrees and welded both the base cuts to create a card base. I added the scoring line on the middle.

I designed and customized the layer cut by adding my friend's husband's name on the top. I chose a font close to the fonts on the layer cut. I cut the layers three times in 3 different colored cardstocks, red, blue and white, to re-create the Illinois license plate where they live. The size of this layer is 12" x 6", just like a real license plate. With the card base, this is a huge card since the card base is slightly larger than the layer cut to matte it. I kept all the negative die cuts since I will be in-laying this later on.

Using a Post-It Full Adhesive Roll, I masked the upper portion of the white layered cut. I also applied this on the back of the layered cut. This is where I attached the negative cuts using the letter cuts as guide. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Inks on this bottom area, starting with the lighter blue shade of Tumbled Glass, then blending in Faded Jeans.

This is where the tedious process begins. I first applied a double sided tape to the back of the white layered cut. This will make the in-laying process easier. With the exposed adhesive from the double sided tape, all I needed to do is piece in the die cuts. This is why I kept the negative die cuts.

I layered the different die cuts by adhering one on top of the other using wet adhesive for more wiggle time. I made sure that the die cut color that will be on top is the same as the color of the Illinois license plate. I adhered a silver Duck Tape around the edges of the front of the card base to serve as the matte. I adhered the layer cut to the card base using a strong double sided adhesive tape for stability. For added shimmer, I applied Wink of Stella to the stars and the main sentiment, No. 1 Dad.
