Zodiac Card Set

Hello! Welcome to our new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our challenge is Anything Goes. I am using images from Knitty Kitty, one of our sponsors for this challenge.

As soon as I saw this digital set, I fell in love with it. It reminded me of a stamp set from Mama Elephant that I have my eyes on but never get to acquiring. I was inspired by the cards made by Val using the Mama Elephant stamp set. And, when we talk about zodiac signs, I just cannot leave one image behind, right? Because if I will be asked to create a card using one image from this set, of course, I will lean towards my birthday zodiac sign which you will find out what it is at the end of this post.

I colored the images using Copic markers. I fuzzy cut the images, leaving a small border around each image. For the background, I am using a Hero Arts Star Galaxy Background rubber stamp. I played around with this rubber stamp, using different inks and different kinds of paper to ink on. I die cut this background using a frame die from Mama Elephant Peek A Frame Creative Cuts die set. The sentiment is from Hero Arts Written in the Stars stamp set. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock using Versafine Onyx black ink and heat embossed it with clear powder. I die cut the sentiment using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die. For the star, I used Lawn Fawn Tiny Tags die. The sentiment and image were adhered with foam tape.

For the base card, I am using a 110lb. Neenah cardstock. I embossed the front of the base card using We R Memory Keepers Next Level 3D Gemstone embossing folder. I adhered the panels on this using fun foams.

I can't believe I came up with 12 note cards right away. It took me a while to create these but once I knew how one card looked and the steps to create it, the rest was just easy to make.

Acrylic Painting for a Cause

I rarely get to attend crafting classes due to schedule conflicts but I was very fortunate to be able to attend one at Checkered Cottage. They offered a free painting class last June 1. I arrived with whatever paintbrush I own to find out that it is a painting class using acrylic paint. I only used acrylic once with a foam letter stamp. I am more into watercoloring.

Barb, the class instructor, was very supportive and patient for a newbie like me. The picture actually looked good, but I am the worst critic of myself. In real life, I didn't do a good job putting the highlights and shading. My colors were too strong..

I learned different techniques in acrylic painting. I learned about dry brushing with the use of a different kind of brush that I have never worked with before. To me, it looks like a miniature stencil brush. I also learned how to use a flat brush to create shadows. I don't think it is going to work using watercolors but I can give it a try. My flat brush is always used to apply a color wash to my background.

Now, the question is will I go into this as a part of my crafting. It was fun to learn acrylic painting but just like what one of the attendees said when they talked about stamping, that she doesn't want to go into stamping because of the cost. Same here. I have invested a lot on my own kind of crafting. I just wish I can attend these kind of classes again wherein I just bring myself and my paintbrushes.

Like the header says, this creation is not something to make and bring home. This will be donated to a hospital and will be given to parents who has lost a newborn to hold items that will make them forever remember their loved one. What more can I ask for in a class?

Oxide Background & a Surprise Pull Tab Greeting Card

 

Hello. I can't resist joining in Paper Smooches May Challenge on Flowers. I also created this card and hopefully finish it in time to make it to their June Guest Designer Search deadline. Plus, I need a card for my 2nd son's upcoming birthday on Saturday. A lot of reasons to motivate me to create this card, right?

I am still head over heels with using the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide. I smooshed the TH Fossilized Amber to the Craft mat and spritz the area with water. I smooshed a TH Watercolor paper to the area to pick up the color. I dried the paper with a heat gun. I then applied TH Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide to PS Hip to be Square background stamp, which by the way, is already retired. I spritz water to this, and placed the watercolor paper on top of it. I rub my palm over the paper to make sure the image is transferred to the paper.

I used a lot of Paper Smooches Products for this creation, aside from the Hip to be Square background stamp. I used Comforting Hugs stamp set for the critter (Isn't it adorable?) I used Pocket dies for the the cover of the surprise critter and also, for the flowers and leaves underneath the vellum pocket die cut. I heat embossed a zigzag image from Cyber Cafe stamp set to the vellum pocket to create an outline. The sentiment is from Denim & Daisies stamp set. For the pull-out tab, I used Toppers die for the accent.

This is a multi-step instruction card which I was planning to describe the steps here. But due to constraint in time, I was not able to describe the instructions here. I can answer any questions you may have on how I created the elements for this card.

Black and White Spinner Slider Birthday Card

New challenge time @ Incy Wincy Designs Blog with the theme being Black & White & Another Color. I am using an image from one of the sponsors for this challenge, SheepSki Designs.

I colored the image using Copic markers and color pencils. For accents, I used a metallic pen for the screws, a black glaze pen for the eyes and a red marker for the hearts, which is the other color in this card. I fuzzy cut the image leaving a white border around it.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Sentimental Circles set. I heat embossed the sentiment on white cardstock using a Recollections Charcoal embossing powder. I die cut two circles on black cardstock to reveal the sentiment. Using a Heidi Swapp Polka Dot stencil, I applied clear embossing paste by Wendi Vecchi mixed with Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress ink. I set this aside to dry.

Instead of using a penny, I die cut a circle from a leftover chipboard. I adhered foam adhesive to the back of the black cardstock. I adhered double layered square foam adhesive to the back of the image, then adhered this to the circle chipboard. I adhered this panel to a top folding white note card.

The robot now spins and slides at the bottom part of the circle which you can view on the video.

I made this card for my husband who celebrated is 'ty-6th birthday last Monday. Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Cricut 3D Flower Corsage

It is the time of the year when my son, who is in band, will have their last concert for the school year. I failed to post the flower corsage I made for his band teacher during the winter concert, so, I will post a photo of that flower corsage at the end of this post. Unfortunately, since it has been months since I made that rose, I don't have the exact measurements of that flower.

For the Spring flower corsage, I cut a patterned paper @ 8" wide. I inked the edges gently using TH Distress Oxide Worn Lipstick to hide the white core of the patterned paper. I poke a hole at the center through which I inserted a floral wire. I twirled the paper using a quilling pen. A glue gun is a must for this kind of project to secure the twirled flower to the base which also secures the floral wire. I curled the petals out to make the flower realistic looking. I sprayed the flower with pearlized water. I squirted some Nuvo Crystal on the center of the flower. I set this aside to dry.

I cut a green patterned paper for the leaves. I secured the leaves to the base of the flower using glue gun. I was afraid the leaves will be ripped since the patterned paper is not thick. I applied Ranger Multi Media glue to the back of the leaves.  I am hoping that once the glue dries, it will add some stability to the leaves. I also brushed glittered Stickles to the top of the leaves.

I wrapped the floral wire with a floral tape. I then, created a bow, using a sheer ribbon.

For the box, I cut a 7"x7" white cardstock. Using the Martha Stewart Scoring Board, I scored this at 3" and 5". I rotated the paper & scorted it on the same marks. I heat embossed my store logo to the inner bottom panel of the box before adhering the sides. I used acetate for the box cover.

I always struggle with coming up with the right measurement to create the size of flower I have in mind. Since this is 3D, the flower size in the canvas in Cricut Craft Room is larger than the size of the 3D flower once it is twirled and assembled. I added a comparison photo here between a 6" cut and an 8" cut flower.

Watercolor Pencil, Watercolor and A Little Bit of Distress Oxide

It is a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our theme is CAS (Clean and Simple,) Back then, I was not familiar to this so I had to Google what it meant. There are many different versions of a CAS card. To me, a CAS card is a one layer card, without any dimensions and with a minimal (or better yet, none) embellishment. Based on my own description, I came up with the card I have here today.

One of our featured sponsors for this challenge is Diddybag. They have a large array of images to choose from. I am using the Color Me Hearts images. A lot of possibilities with this one. I printed each heart on Canson Watercolor paper. I had to strategically crop, re-size and position the heart to slightly offset it to the side as part of the design. I am telling you, this may sound easy in digital stamping but I did use up a lot of scrap papers and ink to come up with the right size and the right spot for the heart. I also want to print two images at once to have two cards ready at once.

The images did not print all the way to the side. I had to trim a bit off the edges, making this card slightly short of 4 1/4" wide. If you want to keep it as is, you can use a border die to cover the gap. These are top folding cards which I think are pretty easy to replicate and produce in bulk. Maybe pack it as a note card gift set.

Since I am watercoloring, I taped the card to a board to keep the warping to a minimum. I am using Stampin Up Watercolor pencils and Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor. I started off with the watercolor pencils but the colors are limited, so I used the watercolor set. I am very amazed on how the water did not react to the printed image. I was expecting for disaster since I have a ink jet printer which reacts to moisture readily. Not with this one. I am not sure but I think it is the paper that made this technique do-able.

When I was done with coloring, I used a black Sakura gel pen and traced the lines to make the lines pop. I fuzzy cut the same heart out of the scrap papers I practiced printing on. I used this to mask the heart so I can ink blend the background with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide. It blends easily even if you started off heavy with a harsh line. I spritz the area with water and lifted it up with a paper towel to create water droplets.

I used the Altenew Label Love for sentiment. I stamped it on a strip of cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I embossed the sentiment with clear powder. I ran a black marker along the edges to hide the white core of the paper strip. I applied clear Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to the trim of the heart. I adhered Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti mix. To finish off the card, I rounded the edges.

I plan to create cards using the rest of the hearts in this set with the same technique but using different mediums. Please watch out for it.

Distress Oxide Stamping and Color Pencils

I finally get to play with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks. I used it to stamp the images, and its properties are really amazing! The image remained wet long enough that I was able to apply embossing powder to the image and heat set it. I created masks for the images so I can stamp the flower on top of the other keeping in mind that the masked image is the one that will be in front. The images are from Altenew Hannah Elements stamp set.

I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils. I am not an expert with color pencils but I would like to learn how to work with this medium. I wanted to go for a textured look so I used the flicking motion in coloring the petals of the flowers. I am more familiar with the flicking motion using Copic markers. I think they also work with color pencils, what do you think? For the center of large flowers, I die cut a circle on blue felt. I adhered blue Doodlebug Sequins on top of the felt. After which, I applied a dot of glue on the center of the sequins, and poured clear Martha Stewart seed beed. I set this aside to dry, then brushed off the excess seed beed.

This panel was 4 1/4"x 5 1/2" until I trimmed it off and created a banner-like panel as the main focus of the card. I die cut the bottom edge of this panel using Simon Says Stamp Wavy Scallop Stitches wafter die. I was able to center the die on the banner to create a single curved scallop.

For the colored panel, I am using a navy blue cardstock cut at 4"x 5 1/4". I embossed this using a Li'l Inker Quilted Stitched Pattern die. I adhered this to a top folding white A2 notecard. I adhered the stitched blue panel onto this. I adhered the flowered banner on this using dimensional tape and slightly offset to the right side.

The sentiment is from Altenew Super Script stamp set. I heat embossed the message on a navy blue strip of cardstock. I applied clear Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to the sentiment strip.
