Playing With Embossing Paste

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I had a bit of struggle creating this project. A lot of things going on with my life that I am afraid that it is draining me including my creative juices. When this happens to me, I usually spend time looking at my craft supplies and see if it will spark up some ideas. If that does not work, I go to the internet and look for projects using similar craft supplies that I have. This usually does the trick. 

Back to the project, I am using products from Blank Page Muse:

The stencil measures 3" x 8". I cut a white cardstock using the same dimensions. I temporarily adhered the stencil over the paper with tape. I applied white embossing paste over the stencil with a palette knife making sure I covered all openings with the paste. I gently lifted the stencil off the paper and set this aside to dry. I immediately washed the stencil and the palette knife with warm, soapy water. 

Once the paste was dry (I left mine to dry overnight), I spritz colors to the panel using different colors of stains and spray from Tim Holtz. I followed a rainbow order with the colors. I was hoping that the dried paste will keep its stark white color but it absorbed the ink colors. To mute the colors of the paste, I added another layer of embossing paste. This time, I slightly offset the stencil to create a shadow. I also poured Judikins Iridiscent Sparkle embossing powder over the paste. I set this aside to dry. Once the paste has dried, I zapped the powder with the heat gun to melt it.

I stamped the image from the BPM Woodlands Art Rubber stamp set on white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I dried the ink with a heat gun before painting the image using the same colors I used on the panel. I used three additional colors of stains in coloring the image. I fussy cut the image leaving a narrow border around it. 

If you look closely, the image has a bit of dimension. It took me three times to come up with the final colored piece. I was adding shimmer to the heart on the hair using my black Wink of Stella when a blob of black ink dropped. Very frustrating and it did it again! On the third try, I decided to pick the shimmer ink from a palette and paint it on the heart. The shimmer was not as great compared to adding the ink from the brush marker. I added black Stickles over the heart and allowed it to dry. 

So as not to waste my first two attempts on this image, I adhered these pieces to the back of the final colored piece. The edges are not perfectly aligned but I don't think it is very noticeable. 

I stamped the sentiment on vellum using Versafine Onyx Black ink. If I am going to redo this step, I will use a fast drying ink next time like Stazon so I don't have to deal with smearing the letters. Despite heat setting the letters, it remained wet for a while. The ink I used will work if I added embossing powder to it and heat set it. But I want to keep the letters flat so as not to compete with the embossed circles. 

I cut the words apart so I can adhere it to the panel next to the circle scroll pattern. I adhered the image to the bottom left portion of the panel. 

I backed this panel with another heavy weight white cardstock to make it sturdy. I don't now what to do with this project yet. For now, it is ready to be added to a notecard or a scrapbook layout. It can also be used as a bookmark.

Playing with Embossing Paste

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card was created as part of my journey in the AECP Level 3. Today's card is a product of what I learned in the course, All About Layering 7, Stencils Edition. I am using embossing paste on layering stencils, a lesson I learned from Jaycee Gaspar's class. 

This card is beyond my comfort level because it is very messy to create. What attracted me to this class is the technique of layering embossing paste using layering stencils which I am willing to try. The stencil I am using is the Altenew Sixties Sunshine. It is a not a layering stencil but this stencil set allows you to color the petals and stamen with different colors or hues. 

I embossed a brown cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" using the Altenew Sixties Sunshine embossing folder. I swiped a baby wipe on the cardstock before running this through the embossing machine to prevent the paper from cracking. You can also lightly spritz water to the cardstock as an alternative. I am using the recessed side of the embossed panel. The recessed embossed impression will act as a well for the embossing paste. Also, in doing so, I don't add additional dimension to the card since you are filling up a the embossed impression with the embossing paste.

I chose colors that are retro for this project. I assigned a color for each type of flower. I mixed the ink from Karin Pigment Decobrush with a small amount of white embossing paste. For each stencil layer, I am applying embossing paste with all three colors, that's why it is messy. To add color variation, I used the Karin Decobrush, a less pigmented ink, on the second layer.  I repeated the process for the third layer of the stencil, using a different pigment color this time.

It is also messy because I have to clean the spatula in between colors and stencils. I have to clean the stencil and my work area in between layers. 

As you can see, I was not too particular in applying the embossing paste. The flowers are not perfect at all. I skimmed the embossing paste over the stencil to the best that I can which added some character to the flowers. I set this aside to dry.

For the sentiment, I die cut the Altenew Essential Sentiment Strips die on different colored cardstocks, following the colors of the flowers. I added a small border on the last layer to mat the sentiment strip. 

I trimmed a sliver off each side of the panel to remove the rough edges of the created by the embossing paste. You can sand this to smoothen it out if you don't want to trim it. I adhered this to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" light blue cardstock, the same cardstock I used to mat the sentiment. I adhered the embossed panel to this panel using a strong liquid glue. I adhered the sentiment to the embossed panel. I added black dots to the stamens of the flowers using Ranger Black Enamel accent. I set this aside to dry.

Anything Goes #24

Mini-Album

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created these mini albums featuring my sons' photos. It is a gift that I will be sending to my family and my husband's family. Do you recognize the colors? I got my color inspiration from the Ukrainian flag. This is my creative way of showing support to their country. 

The paper I used for the album is Canson Watercolor paper. I cut a sheet in half and scored it at 3", 6" and 9".  

The front was stenciled with some embossing paste mixed with blue and yellow inks. I blended ink and applied watercolor to some areas. The stencils I used are from Hero Arts. The sentiment is created using die cuts from Altenew and Sugar Pea Designs. The label die is from Avery Elle. I added a piece of washi tape and stamped the year which corresponds to the ages of my sons that will be seen once the album is opened.

I matted the photos with patterned paper. I added a sentiment washi tape for some embellishment.

To make the design consistent, I blended inks to the back cover using the same stencil and inks. 

I cannot imagine what Ukraine is going through right now. It is a situation no one wants to be in. My prayers for Ukraine and the Ukrainians.

Pink Holiday Card

Hello! We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. The theme for this challenge is Christmas Without Red Or Green. As the blog post title says, my color scheme is pink for this card.  My 7 year old will love this for pink is his favorite color.

Our sponsor for this challenge is Polkadoodles. I printed the image on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I used several color mediums, Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Watercolor Brush markers, Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor, Finetec Pearlescent Metallic watercolor and Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I felt that coloring this image will demand a lot of time from me so I colored this image in sessions. I don't believe I've colored something like this before. It was a nice experience. Slowly done but I love the result.

For this image, my sister's cat, Peppie, is the model. Since I've used pearl on coloring some of the images, this scene does not require a lot of embellishing. I added Pretty Pink Posh gems to the girl's snow cap flower accent, and Nuvo Clear Drop on the cat's snow cap. I might have gotten crazy on the falling snow on the background. I added Wendi Vecchi clear embossing paste using a Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil. I sprinkled Tim Holtz Distress Rock Candy Glitter to the embossing paste while it is wet, then set this to dry.

For the sentiment, I heat embossed this using Delicata Rose Gold Pigment ink  and clear embossing powder. The sentiment is from Clearly Besotted Little Elves stamp set. I die cut the strip using Avery Elle Simple Sentiments die. I matted this sentiment strip with a pink mirror cardstock. I also matted the watercolored panel but I added some embossing on the edge using Lawn Fawn Stitched Borders die.

Wobbly Cricut Image Die Cut Card

Hello! I am in a crunch for a New Year card design to send to friends who sent us Christmas cards. It won't make it in time but it is always the thought that matters, right? What made it easy is that Cricut Design Space's weekly free images which are from JGoode Designs featuring very cute penguins. This saved me a lot of time. All I need to do is print the images using CDS and my Canon ts9512C printer. This is the second time I paired both machines in a project and I am really excited of the result on this project. I cannot wait to use both machines in another project. I used a 110lb. Neenah Solar White cardstock to print the images on. One thing I've discoverd using the CDS in printing is there is an Advanced Option feature which allows you to customize the paper and the quality of the print out. I also figured out that you can only feed heavy cardstock on the back tray of the Cannon printer. 

I adhered the cardstock with the printed images on the Cricut mat. I fed this to the Cricut Explore to have the images cut.  Another time saver! I did ran a black marker on the sides of the die cut penguins to give it a finished look. 

I cut 6 4 1/4"x 5 1/2" blue Stampin Up cardstock. I am going to apply embossing paste to these panels. I taped the top edge of the Newton's Nook Design Confetti stencil to act as as a hinge as I go through each panel. I also applied a tape to the side of the stencil to keep the stencil from moving. I lined the cardstock to the bottom end of the stencil and taped this to the Ranger Non-stick Craft sheet. 

I applied Wendi Vecchi Transluscent Embossing paste to the upper two-thirds of the stencil. I poured various kinds of embossing powder to each panel, setting it aside to dry. Once this has dried, I zapped it with a heat tool. 

I die cut a snow bank using white cardstock and Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders die. I prepared the area with an anti-static stool. Using the Misti Stamping Tool, I stamped the sentiments using Versamark ink. The stamps I used are from Mama Elephant Just Hatched and In-Line Letters stamp set. I did not get a good impression on the number stamps. Having used this stamp in the past, it is better off stamping the letter one at a time to get a good impression. To fix it, I used a Quickie Glue pen to the no ink areas and poured Paper Source Navy embossing powder to it. I also lined the middle with Sakura White Gelly Roll pen to keep the design of the numbers intact. 

I spritz the snow bank with diluted Perfect Pearl. I set this aside to dry. 

I applied Spectrum Noir Clear Shimmer pen to the penguin. I am being very careful since I am reactivating the water based ink of the printer. I did not want to distort the printed image by making the ink bleed. I enhanced the eyes of the penguin with Sakura Black Glaze pen. I adhered Mini Action Wobbles to the back of the penguins. 

Putting it all together, I adhered the snow bank on top of the panel with dried embossing paste. I used a liquid adhesive for the top part of the snow bank to make it adhere better to the embossing paste. I adhered the wobbly penguin next but aside from the adhesive the wobbler has, I also added a strong liquid adhesive to make it adhere better. 

I trimmed an 8th of an inch off the edges then adhered this to a note card.

Using WOW! Cloud 9 embossing powder. I sneaked in this birthday card for my 12 year old son's friend. After I created the card, we received a late Christmas photo card from their family. Oh, well. The sentiment stamp is from Ellen Hutson Totally Random Sayings stamp set.

Using Altenew Golden Peach embossing powder. This is my 12-year old's choice to give to his friend's family.

Using WOW! Metallic Platinum Sparkle embossing powder.

Layered Stamp Image using Black Cardstock

Hello! I created this card as requested by a friend. She wants me to create a birthday card for her daughter. And, when I am asked to create something for a special recipient, I usually ask what the recipient likes. In this case, my friend's daughter's likes a black cat.

At the same time, I created this card to participate in Newton's Nook Challenge Blog's latest challenge which is a color challenge.

Among the things that needs to be done in creating this card, I think coloring on black cardstock is the most challenging. Like how are you going to make the cat alive on a black cardstock? Well, if one can color on kraft and gray cardstock, maybe it can be done on black cardstock, too. The image which is from Newton Loves Cake stamp set. I stamped the image about three times on a black cardstock using the Misti Stamping Tool just to make a bolder impression of the image. I stamped extras just in case I need to re-do my coloring and also for the layering. I colored the cat using Prisma Color Pencils. I followed the outlines of the stamped cat using an extra fine point black marker. I lined the eyes with Sakura Black Glaze pen.

I stamped this image on a white cardstock using black ink and on a gold vellum paper using gold ink, embossing this with Wow! Gold Pearl embossing powder. On the white cardstock, I fussy cut the frosting and temporarily adhered it to a Tim Holtz Non-stick craft mat. I applied Wendi Vecchi embossing paste to it to create a dimensional frosting. I set this aside to dry. Once dry, I added Nuvo drops and Stickles for the sprinkles.

For the stamped image on the gold vellum, I adhered this to a gold cardstock then fussy cut it. It will be easier if I have the matching dies. But for me, instead of putting the money on the dies, I just buy other stamps. I do have matching dies on the stamp sets that I use often.

To create the background, I am using cardstocks based on the color inspiration. I cut each colored carstock at 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". I layered these and die cut square windows using Lawn Fawn Stitched Square. I used every other square to create a stacked window effect. I added an embossed impression on these stacked squares using the Newton Nook Confetti stencil. To make the design continuous between the stacked layers, I used the Misti Creative Corner to flush one corner of the cardstock. I partially taped the stencil on the top to create a hinge. Once the cardstock is in place, I treated the cardstock with an anti-static tool. I pounced the Versamark ink on the stencil. I poured some Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder to the cardstock, then heat set it. I repeated this process on the other layers as well.

Now, time to assemble the front panel of the card. I fussy cut the stamped black cat. There is more fussy cutting to do but I only did this when I am ready to adhere it. I lose things while crafting. This is my way of keeping things in control.  I adhered the cat on the orange panel which has no die cut window. I adhered the yellow panel on top lining up the edges to the orange cardstock. This is where most of the layering of the stamped image was done.

I adhered the gold stamped image over the black stamped image, lining up the images. I then adhered the frosting. I fussy cut the cat's tail and each cat's paws, adhering it right away after I fussy cut it. I did not used foam adhesives but instead added a blob of Tim Holtz Matte Collage Medium on the back of the cat's front paws to give it a raised effect. I added a stamped candle to the cupcake. I colored this with Prisma color pencils, too. I should have added this while the embossing paste was still wet. But since it was a late design addition, I carefully added embossing paste to the bottom of the candle.

I also stamped and colored a party hat for the cat. I continued layering the panels. I stamped the sentiment on vellum with Versamark ink, treating the area first with an anti-static tool. I heat embossed this with Hero Arts White embossing powder. I trimmed this and tucked one edge under the panel.

I adhered this panel to a top folding 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" white note card. I also stamped a birthday greeting inside the card.

Wobbly Cricut Die Cut Thank You Card

Our chiropractor was nice enough to give us a gift card to Serendipity, a local ice cream shop here at Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri. My sons enjoyed the treat. To show how much we appreciated his kindness, I created this card with ice cream as theme, too.

I cut the image from Cricut Simply Charmed cartridge. I cut the ice cream cone in layers using cardstock. With the ice cream layer, I applied white Wendi Vecchi embossing paste. I didn't apply the paste smoothly to achieve the texture of ice cream. I applied American Crafts Grapefruit embossing powder. I set this aside to dry. I am not sure how long it took for this to dry but I left it overnight. After which, I heat embossed it. I adhered the layers using Ranger Multi-Matte Medium glue.

For the back layer which was cut in white cardstock, I stamped stripes using Simon Says Basic Stripes stamp set. The ink I used is Avery Elle Raspberry pigment ink. I adhered 1/8" double sided tape over the stripes. I poured Elizabeth Crafts Designs Cool Diamond Silk powder over the tape. After I shook the excess, I rubbed the glittered strips with my finger. I inked the edge of the ice cream part on this layer with the same Avery Elle ink.

To work on the card base, I am using a kraft Bazzill cardstock. I am fortunate to have a Simple Stories Beat the Heat patterned paper from the Summer Days collection which has ice cream cones on the B-side. I actually bought this patterned paper because of my obsession with clouds, which is the A-side of this patterned paper. I die cut this patterned paper using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die. I also used the same set of dies to create a border rectangle on a pearlized paper. I also used this to die cut another kraft cardstock.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Altenew Label Love on kraft cardstock using  Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I poured white embossing powder to this, then heat set it. I trimmed off the excess. I traced the letters using a 0.3 Sepia Copic multiliner. I adhered this to the bottom of the innermost stitched rectangle. I applied a Darice Mini Action Wobbler to the back of the die cut ice cream. I adhered this on top of the sentiment.
