Embossing Stylus on Stencil

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card is my take on the latest Newton's Nook Blog Challenge: Rainbow Theme. I colored the sun in my card with rainbow colors.

I am also revisiting an old crafting technique where one uses an embossing stylus to engrave an image on paper using a metal stencil. In my card, I used a plastic stencil instead. The difference is that the plastic stencil tends to shift while you trace the lines. Securing the stencil with your fingers somehow prevents the shifting. Tracing it slowly also helps.

I traced the lines of the sun portion of the Newton's Nook Sunscape stencil on watercolor paper. I colored each sun ray with different colors of Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I also used these colors to fill in the center of the sun being careful not to mix colors that will create a muddy color. I also dry the pigment with a heat tool in between colors.

I stamped the image from NN Newton Scoots By stamp set on watercolor paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I heat set this before coloring the image using the same markers I used on the background. I colored the image with my sister's kitten, Cali Junior, as inspiration. I die cut the image using the coordinating die.

To ground the scooter, I engraved the hills portion of the stencil on black watercolor paper. I colored the hills with a brown Karin paint marker. I fussy cut the hills, leaving a small border on the top and bottom of the hills.

I created a short slider mechanism on the hills. I die cut the slider on the right portion of the hills keeping the negative cut. Ideally, a coin is used to make the image slide freely but the coin will show through that downhilss so I had to settle with stacked circle die cuts that are smaller than a coin. The only difference is that you have to do the sliding manually.

I trimmed the sun panel to 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". I adhered the negative die cut from the hills to the bottom of the panel using the hills as guide for placement. I assembled the slider, then adhered this to the panel making sure the negative cut is lined up with the slider window.

For the sentiment, I embossed this on vellum. The sentiment is from the same stamp set. I fussy cut the sentiment leaving a small border around it. I also die cut several clouds on platinum vellum. The cloud dies are part of the coordinating die set.

I used the Xyron Sticker Maker to add adhesive to the back of the vellum which is my preferred way of adding adhesive to vellum since there is no warping when I do it this way.

It is hard to see the slider mechanism on the photos because of the dark colored hills that's why I included a short video below showing the cat on the scooter slide.

Pop-Up Cricut Slider Card

I created this card for my 6 year old’s classmate who will have a magician themed birthday party. I browsed through the Cricut images in Cricut Design Space. Both my images are from the Cricut Create A Critter cartridge. The hat is a part of a caterpillar image. To remove the caterpillar, I ungrouped the set image and hid the caterpillar by clicking the eye. A diagonal line on the eye means that that cut is hidden and would not be cut. I apologize for I cannot give you the measurements of how these images were cut. I cut it several times until I came up with the right finished piece.

I spritzed the hat with pearlized water. I set this aside to dry. I stamped the hat trim with a sentiment from Li’l Inker Designs Modern Mandala stamp set. I heat embossed the sentiment using Wow! Silver Pearl embossing powder. To personalized the card, I die cut the celebrant’s name using Lawn Fawn Cole’s Alphabet die. I die cut this on silver glittered cardstock and die cut it 3 more times using white cardstock. I adhered the letters on top of each other to create a chipboard-like embellishment.

The bunny is a triple layered cut. I adhered the layers on top of each other. The rabbit whiskers are very thin, and didn’t come layered. I am amazed that the Cricut Explore was able to cut it. To make the whiskers sturdy, I applied some Tim Holtz Distress Matte Collage Medium on its back, and allowed it to dry.

To create the slider mechanism, I die cut a white cardstock using Lawn Fawn Stitched Square die. I partially die cut the Lawn Fawn Slide On Over die. If your slider opening is longer than you need, just adhere a cardstock across the area where you want the sliding element to stop. I adhered a small fun foam to the back of the bunny die cut through the slider window. Once this has dried, I adhered a strip of cardstock to this fun foam, sandwiching the slider cardstock in between the bunny die cut and this pull tab. To guide the pull tab, I added adhesive foam to each side of the pull tab. I added adhesive foam to the edges of this panel as well. I adhered this to a 4 ¼” x 4 ¼” side folding white note card.

I adhered the hat in front of the bunny using adhesive foam making sure it is not on the way of the sliding mechanism. Then I adhered the hat trim and the letters. I adhered star sequins for additional embellishment.

It would have been nice if all the bunny is hidden but with the bunny ears showing, it adds a playful element to the card. I wrote pull on the top of the tab to give the recipient an idea that this is an interactive card.

Black and White Spinner Slider Birthday Card

New challenge time @ Incy Wincy Designs Blog with the theme being Black & White & Another Color. I am using an image from one of the sponsors for this challenge, SheepSki Designs.

I colored the image using Copic markers and color pencils. For accents, I used a metallic pen for the screws, a black glaze pen for the eyes and a red marker for the hearts, which is the other color in this card. I fuzzy cut the image leaving a white border around it.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Sentimental Circles set. I heat embossed the sentiment on white cardstock using a Recollections Charcoal embossing powder. I die cut two circles on black cardstock to reveal the sentiment. Using a Heidi Swapp Polka Dot stencil, I applied clear embossing paste by Wendi Vecchi mixed with Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress ink. I set this aside to dry.

Instead of using a penny, I die cut a circle from a leftover chipboard. I adhered foam adhesive to the back of the black cardstock. I adhered double layered square foam adhesive to the back of the image, then adhered this to the circle chipboard. I adhered this panel to a top folding white note card.

The robot now spins and slides at the bottom part of the circle which you can view on the video.

I made this card for my husband who celebrated is 'ty-6th birthday last Monday. Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Watercolored Stamped Sentiment & Shaker Wine Glass Slider Card

I am using the Paper Smooches Sassy Script to customize a sentiment. I stamped the letters on black cardstock using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Linen. I tried painting over this to give it a look like I hand-painted it but I wasn't successful in achieving that look. I didn't give up with this idea. This time, after I stamped the letters, I outlined the letters using a gold metallic marker.  I could have stopped here since the look of it is not that bad at all, but I want to pursue the design I have in mind for this card. I colored the letters using Finetec Artist Gold Color set. I created splatters using the same color set but a different gold color.

For the slider elements, I stamped two wine glasses from Paper Smooches Merry Motifs stamp set using Versamrk ink.  I heat embossed this with gold Zing! embossing powder. Using a craft knife, I carefully cut off the inside of the wine glass. I die cut the wine glasses using the matching die. I also die cut 2 extra ones which will be the back of the shaker wine glass. To make the insides of the wine glass have a finished look, I ran a Versamark pen on the inner sides of the window, and heat embossed this with the same gold powder. I adhered a clear acetate to the back of the wine glasses. I cut small and short strips of foam tape and adhered it around the window to create a well. I poured Martha Stewart seed beed to the well, then adhered the plain wine glass die cut.

My sentiment wasn't centered so I trimmed the sides using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die. This panel is smaller than the actual die so I had to run the cardstock with the die again to get the stitched impressions on that edge as well.

Most of the time, pennies are used as backing for the sliders. My Favorite Things sells slider elements, if you are interested. I don't have this so I created my own by cutting a piece of thick fun foam large enough that it will not slide off the slider window. Since this is very thick, I had to apply 4 layers of foam adhesive just to make the slider element mechanism work. This is a lot, I know. That's why this card is something I would want to hand deliver vs. mailing.

To cover the area of the slider window, I used the extra black splattered cardstock. I adhered this to a Pearl White cardstock which I embossed with We R Memory Keepers Next Level 3D Gemstone embossing folder. I trimmed a small piece from the edge before I adhered this to a Hero Arts black note card.
