Unicorn Celebration Pop-up Box Cards

Hello! It is a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Blog. Our theme for this challenge is on Celebrations. I am using a digital set image from one of our awesome sponsors for this challenge, Diddybag. The first time I saw these unicorn images, I knew I was going to have fun playing with it. Aren't they adorable? This set only comes in color but I am fortunate that the owner of Diddybag, Nell, and my co-DT, Nikki, helped me in transforming the images into transparent ones so I can color it.

I printed the images on white Neenah cardstock and colored it with Prisma color pencils, adding accents here and there. I fuzzy cut the unicorns leaving a small white border around each image.

This is not the first time I made a box card. I created a box card before using a Cricut digital cut and stamped images. Here is the link, in case you are interested, WPlus9 Pretty Peonies Card In A Box. But this box card is slim and tall. I want it short and wide. Good thing, I watched this video by Laura Bassen on how to create your own pop-up box card. There are also cutting dies out in the market that makes the steps to creating a box card very simple.

I created three different cards so I can make use of the unicorn images. The set has 10 and unfortunately, I only used 9. But I will use the last unicorn to decorate the envelope as I send one of the box cards to a friend who just had a baby.

For all three box cards, I am using the Taylored Expression Rolling Clouds die and Paper Smooches Rainbow Wise die.

For this baby card, I used a light blue cardstock. I die cut the flaps using Mama Elephant Borderline Trios Creative Cuts. I sponged the edges with SSS Sea Glass dye ink. The sentiment is from Mama Elephant Just Hatched stamp set. It was heat embossed using Hero Arts white embossing powder. I lined the clouds with Ranger Glossy Accent, then poured Tim Holtz Distress Glitter Clear Rock Candy over this. I set this aside to dry.

For this box card, I used a light pink cardstock. I die cut the flaps using Concord & 9th Bags & Tags die. I sponged the edges with Tim Holtz Tattered Rose Distress Ink . The sentiment is from Ellen Hutson Spread the Sparkle stamp set. The bolder sentiment was heat embossed using Simon Says Stamp Rose Gold embossing powder. I applied Stickles Star Dust on the edge of the clouds.

For this box card, I used a cream cardstock. I trimmed a plaid patterned paper from Authentique slightly smaller than the flaps. I ran the Lawn Fawn Stitched Border dies on the edges. The sentiment is from the same stamp set I used in the previous box card. I added some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti Mix to the rainbow. For the clouds, it might be hard to see on the photos but I heat embossed the edges with the use of a Versamark pen and Ranger Holographic embossing powder.

It was such a joy creating these boxes. I hope you create something to show what you are celebrating right now. Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you come again.

Watercolor Pencil, Watercolor and A Little Bit of Distress Oxide

It is a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. Our theme is CAS (Clean and Simple,) Back then, I was not familiar to this so I had to Google what it meant. There are many different versions of a CAS card. To me, a CAS card is a one layer card, without any dimensions and with a minimal (or better yet, none) embellishment. Based on my own description, I came up with the card I have here today.

One of our featured sponsors for this challenge is Diddybag. They have a large array of images to choose from. I am using the Color Me Hearts images. A lot of possibilities with this one. I printed each heart on Canson Watercolor paper. I had to strategically crop, re-size and position the heart to slightly offset it to the side as part of the design. I am telling you, this may sound easy in digital stamping but I did use up a lot of scrap papers and ink to come up with the right size and the right spot for the heart. I also want to print two images at once to have two cards ready at once.

The images did not print all the way to the side. I had to trim a bit off the edges, making this card slightly short of 4 1/4" wide. If you want to keep it as is, you can use a border die to cover the gap. These are top folding cards which I think are pretty easy to replicate and produce in bulk. Maybe pack it as a note card gift set.

Since I am watercoloring, I taped the card to a board to keep the warping to a minimum. I am using Stampin Up Watercolor pencils and Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor. I started off with the watercolor pencils but the colors are limited, so I used the watercolor set. I am very amazed on how the water did not react to the printed image. I was expecting for disaster since I have a ink jet printer which reacts to moisture readily. Not with this one. I am not sure but I think it is the paper that made this technique do-able.

When I was done with coloring, I used a black Sakura gel pen and traced the lines to make the lines pop. I fuzzy cut the same heart out of the scrap papers I practiced printing on. I used this to mask the heart so I can ink blend the background with Tim Holtz Distress Oxide. It blends easily even if you started off heavy with a harsh line. I spritz the area with water and lifted it up with a paper towel to create water droplets.

I used the Altenew Label Love for sentiment. I stamped it on a strip of cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I embossed the sentiment with clear powder. I ran a black marker along the edges to hide the white core of the paper strip. I applied clear Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to the trim of the heart. I adhered Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Confetti mix. To finish off the card, I rounded the edges.

I plan to create cards using the rest of the hearts in this set with the same technique but using different mediums. Please watch out for it.

Thanks for viewing my blog. Have a blessed & brilliant day!

Diddybag Celebrate You Shaker Card

I am late in posting a project for Incy Wincy Design's bi-weekly challenge. I just came back from vacation, and I am usually unable to predict what craft items to bring with me. I always feel overwhelmed on what to bring. So, I just limit myself to coloring during trips. The good thing is that my images are now colored and cut. I also have a design lay out in mind.

I am using an old Crate Paper patterned paper line, Hello Love. I die cut a window using Pretty Pink Posh Window Frames die. I changed the orientation of the die to give it a twist.

For the sentiment, I am using a sentiment from My Favorite Things Celebrate Life stamp set. I am using words from two stamps. I used masking technique to be able to stamp the sentiments to make it look like the impression is from one stamp. I heat embossed this with Simon Says Stamp Rose Gold embossing powder. To make the sentiment pop, I colored the sentiment with Copic Opaque White. I colored the rest of the sentiment with a light pink marker.

To assemble the shaker card, I adhered a clear acetate on the back of the window panel. I cut a fun foam slightly smaller than the window panel. I die cut the window on the fun foam. I adhered this to the back of the window panel. I poured sequins over the acetate. The sequins are from SSS and Martha Stewart Crafts. I closed the window with another patterned paper from Hello Love. I adhered this to a white base card.

I adhered the bear to the front using foam adhesive. The image was colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  I colored the hearts on the patterned paper with clear Spectrum Noir Shimmer pen, and I adhered the same hearts I used for shakers to some of the hearts. I rounded the corners on the left side with We R Memory Keepers Cropadile Corner Puncher.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you join us in our Celebrate challenge. Have a blessed and brilliant day!
