Shaped Floral Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card features Kat Scrappiness products. I hope you like it.

I created the flowers using the KS Oopsie Daisy 6x6 layering stencils. I die cut the pieces first on a white cardstock using the KS Oopsie Daisy Coordinating Craft dies before stenciling in the images. There is no rhyme or reason which between stenciling and die cutting go first. I think it is a matter of preference and it depends on the image being stenciled. I used the die cut pieces as a guide in lining up the images on the stencil. 

You can use a sticky mat to prevent the die cuts from shifting while blending ink on it. What if you don't have a sticky mat? Use those negative cuts to keep the die cut in place during ink blending. Just put a not so tacky tape behind the panel with the negative cut, piece in the die cut image, then position the stencil over it. 

I used the KS Gold Glitter Mousse instead of ink on one of the daisy stencil layers. Since I don't have a brown colored mousse, I used embossing powder instead. After treating the area with an anti-static tool, I pounced the sticky ink over the stencil using a sponge dauber. I poured the embossing powder over it, then heat embossed it. Not all of the details were captured with this technique so I repositioned the stencil and used an embossing pen this time to add sticky ink to the flower. 

I repeated this process on the leaves. I used the KS Emerald Glitter Mousse this time for the leaf veins. You might have to clean the stencil in between mousse application to remove the excess glue that got stuck in the stencil.

I die cut 3 pieces of windows from the KS The Night Before Christmas Window Scene craft dies on white cardstock. I trimmed the tree off the window using a scissor and a craft knife to create a window frame. This is a great way to stretch this die.

I adhered the windows on top of each other to create some dimension.

I die cut a kraft cardstock using an arch die. The arch die cut is a bit larger than the window frame but it is okay since I can snipped off the excess later on. I added some embossing detail to the top portion of this kraft die cut which will show through the arched portion of the window frame. To create this, I lightly marked with a pencil where the horizontal frame of the arch ends. I used this pencil mark as a guide where to position the embossing folder. 

I adhered the kraft die cut to the back of the window frame and cut off the excess.

I trimmed the yellow cardstock at 5 1/2" on the long side. I scored this at 4 1/4". I created a shaped arch card using this yellow note card. The left side of the die is hanging off the folded side of the note card. I also made sure that this part is hanging off the sandwich plate so no pressure will be applied to it thus, prevent this area from being cut. The arch die I used is larger than the window frame. 

I adhered the window to this shaped card.

I arranged the flowers and once I like the placement, I adhered it to the window note card. I raised two of the flowers with foam adhesive. I tucked the leaves underneath the flowers. I added some KS Sparkling Clear Diamond Jewels to the layout.

Mica Pearl Watercolored Image

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am paying tribute to the Day of the Dead with this project. I used the I Brake For Stamps Sugar Zen Skull rubber stamp. 

I stamped the image on watercolor cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. The details of the stamp image was captured beautifully by this ink. Not to forget that this is a watercolor friendly ink which is the medium I used on today's project.

I colored the image using Finetec and Coliro pearl watercolors. I used a water brush with a fine tip to watercolor the image which was very helpful on those tiny spaces.

Once I am done with the watercoloring, I used a metallic pen to add more details to the image. 

I die cut the panel into a circle using a circle die.

I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor to color the background black. I sponged the sides with a blank ink to hide the white core of the watercolor paper.   

For the back panel, I die cut a scallop on white cardstock. I adhered different colored crepe paper to the edges. I trimmed off the excess.

I adhered scrap circle die cuts to the back of the skull panel to add a bit of depth. You can use foam adhesive or fun foam instead. I just like to make us of my scraps if I can.

I adhered the focal point to the scalloped crepe paper panel.

This project can be used as a decor on a table. It can also be hung by adding a string on the back. Create more pieces to make it festive. It can also be adhered to a notecard as a focal point. Or, cut another scallop piece to make it into a shaped card.

Challenge #111~Spooky Season

Create a Shaped Card using a 3D Die

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card was created using items from my craft stash. Would you believe that I used a die to create a 3D gift card holder for this card? Yes! I used the Honey Bee Gift Card Present Box on this card but instead of making it into a gift holder, I used some of the dies in the set to create a card. 

The colors of the present were inspired by the latest Inspired By Challenge which I linked below.

Both front and back of the card will have the present design. So I die cut duplicates of each piece for the card.

I stamped the Honey Bee Buffalo Plaid 6 x 6 Stamp on the blue cardstock and green cardstock. (Unfortunately, this stamp has been retired.) I wanted a light toned stamping to preserve the pastel color of the cardstock. To create this look, I stamped the pieces with Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment ink first. After I cleaned the stamp, I restamped the plaid using the color coordinating dye ink to each piece. Since the pigment ink is still wet, some of the colored pigment transferred back to the stamp. Since I need to re-stamp the plaid background, before re-stamping, I cleaned the stamp before re-inking it with the same dye ink. This step prevents contaminating the dye ink pad with the white pigment ink. A stamp positioning tool is a must to be able to re-stamp precisely. I am using the Misti Stamping Tool for this card.

For the pink ribbon, I used a Simon Says Stamp stencil to add tiny dot details to it using a dye ink. While my plaid stamp was out, I discovered another use for it aside from stamping. I used the flat back of the plaid stamp as a grip mat. Why not, right? 

 

I did the same technique on the bow but this time using a yellow dye ink. I curled the bow with a scoring tool before assembling this into a bow. 

To make this into a card, I am using a white top folding A2 note card. I trimmed a bit off the side using the blue die cut as a guide. The present lid is 4 1/4" wide so there will be a bit of an overhang on the top of the card. 

The green piece comes with a score line when die cut. You can trim this on the score line to come up with two pieces but I decided to keep it as is to give the lid some dimension. I trimmed a sliver off the part that will be adhered to the note card. I adhered this to the top of the note card making sure it is on the center. One piece was adhered to the front and the other was adhered to the back.

I adhered the blue piece after, making sure it is aligned on the sides of the the note card. I also made sure that this is flushed to the back portion of the scored green lid. This allows the front portion of the green piece to overlap the blue piece.

I adhered the ribbons after, creating a cross on the center of the blue piece. 

I adhered the bow after. I flattened the bow a bit so it will fit inside an A2 envelope.

Disney Princess Jasmine Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project is my second card for the latest Incy Wincy Design's September Challenge. In case you don't know yet, the blog is taking a break until the end of the year. Might as well make the most of this month's challenge since it will be a while before I create something as an Incy DT member.

Our challenge theme is Colors of Autumn +/or Not a Square or Rectangle. We have two sponsors for this challenge. I am using an image from one of the sponsors which I linked below. 

Coloring Jasmine with Autumn inspired colors was quite a challenge. I had to research the internet on this. I found a blue Jasmine photo which could pass for an Autumn color. Not your typical Autumn color but it should work. 

I colored Jasmine with Copic markers. I used the 0 marker to achieve a sheer look on the overlay over her pants. My other challenge was coloring her hair. Creating layers in black is tough for me but the key is to always go light-handed. It is always darken a lightly colored image and harder to lighten a dark colored image.

I fussy cut the image leaving a white border around it. 

For the panel, since one of the themes is Not a Square or Rectangle, I created an oval panel. My oval die is too small to fit Jasmine so I used an old tool, an oval Curvy Cutter. Yes, I still have mine. I also have this tool in a circle shape and a square shape. The blade is a bit blunt from age and use. To somehow sharpen it, I ran the blade on an aluminum foil a couple of times. The blade does not become very sharp but sharp enough to not warp the paper as the blade passes through it.

I created a background for Jasmine using a marbled blue patterned paper and a orange glittered patterned paper. 

I cut a larger oval using a light brown cardstock. I adhered a cream lace trim on the edge of this oval piece. I adhered the blue/orange panel to this, then adhered Jasmine. I decided not to put a sentiment to keep the focus on Jasmine.

I added shimmer to the sheer pant overlay using a clear shimmer pen. I added shimmer to the lamp and Jasmine's jewelries using a shimmer gold pen. I tried capturing the shimmer on photo. I added Ranger Glossy Accents to the gems of the crown, necklace and the pant trim.

I cut another oval on the same light brown cardstock. I scored this at 1/4" from the top. I applied strong liquid adhesive to this flap, then adhered this to the back of the decored panel. Now, I have a shaped card.

Unicorn Pumpkin Shaped Card

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I am a guest designer at Send a Smile 4 Kids for the month of September. This month's challenge theme is Cute Fall/Halloween Cards 4 the Kids. I hope you join in this month's challenge.

Halloween is very memorable to me, crafting-wise. I remember creating classroom give-aways for my three grade school sons. It was busy since I create close to a total of 60 pieces classroom give-aways. That's why I am super excited to create a Halloween card for a kid.

I used products from different companies for this card. The pumpkin die is from Honey Bee. The eyes, ears and horn are from Pinkfresh Studio. And the flowers are from My Favorite Things. 

I did  a couple of free hand trimming on the pumpkin and ears to create the layers. 

Would you believe that the unicorn's eyes were also fussy cut? The unicorn eyes came as stamps only. Stamping on the pumpkin will not work because of the gaps on the pumpkin. To create this, I stamped the eyes on the back of a black mirror cardstock. I fussy cut the eyes using the stamped impression as a guide. The black mirror cardstock has a white core. I lined the edges with a black marker to hide the white core.

I die cut the horn on the same black mirror cardstock, then stamped the horn on this die cut using Versamark ink. I used a gold embossing powder so it will match the gold outline of the pumpkin. 

For the flowers, I die cut these on different colored cardstocks. I added stitching details to the flowers using DMC variegated floss. I added a circle die cut to the flower centers. I arranged these flowers on the pumpkin and adhered it using a liquid glue. I added a drop of Nuvo to the flower centers and set this aside to dry.

To make this into a shaped card, I trimmed a heavy weight cardstock at 8 1/2" x 2". I scored this panel at 4 1/4". I positioned the pumpkin die over this note card with a little bit of the die hanging over the folded edge. Cutting it this way will preserve the folded edge, thus, coming up with a shaped card.

I stamped a sentiment to the inside of the shaped card before adhering the card front to the back of the Unicorn Pumpkin.

There is an odd piece on the floral arrangement. Did you notice it? If you did not, watch the short video below to see the magic surprise.

Hexagon Shaped Fall Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project is for this month's Incy Wincy Designs Challenge. The theme for this challenge is/are Colours of Autumn +/or Not a Square or Rectangle. Also, Incy Wincy is going to take a break for the rest of the year to allow some of our DT members to focus on their hectic lives. If you have time, please drop by the blog and leave some encouraging comments to the DT. They are doing their best to keep the challenge blog going.

We have two sponsors for this challenge. The image I am using is from the Little Minute Manda which I linked below. Isn't the gnome cute?

I printed the image on a light weight white cardstock. I colored the image with Copic markers. I got my inspiration colors from a paper pad by Echo Park.

After I colored the image, I fussy cut this leaving a small border around it.

For the background panel, I adhered scraps of plaid patterned paper on a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of scrap paper. I partially die this using a hexagon die. I partially die cut it so I can extend the length of the polygon. You don't have to this. You can just use a regular trimmer to create the same shape. 

For the card base, on a kraft colored note card, I traced the hexagon die which created a border around the plaid polygon. I used my paper trimmer to cut the note card on the traced lines. 

 

I adhered the patterned paper to the polygon note card, making sure it is centered. I adhered the gnome.

I die cut several of the green scrap patterned paper from the same paper pack with a grass border die. I adhered this to the bottom of the wagon to ground it. 

The sentiment is from an ephemera pack from Simple Stories. It had a bit of overhang which I snipped off so it will follow the shape of the polygon.

Floral Apron Shaped Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. If you have been following me, you have read in my previous post how I went into a crafting slump last week. I am glad to finally break out of it! I was able to do more crafting this week than last week.

Today's project was inspired by Honey Bee's March's FB Challenge. I linked the challenge below, in case you are interested to join.

I got this Honey Cuts Apron A2 die as one of the crafty items I purchased from a crafter's fundraiser destash. I am not familiar with the die so I went to the Honey Bee website to see project samples using this die. I die cut four pieces of the apron on cream cardstock. 

The die set comes with the die to cut the neck piece. I cut four pieces of this on red cardstock. 

The die set also comes with a die that will cut a folding piece to make this into a card. I die cut this piece on a heavy weight vellum, and gave it a good score using the scored line created by the die.

I embellished the apron with die cut tulips. The layering dies I used for the tulips is from Honey Cuts Lovely Layers Tulip die. I used the tulip bud for this project, cutting the layers on different colors of cardstock.

I adhered the tulips buds to the apron.

The apron die cut comes with two slits to slide the neck piece through. I slid the red neck piece die cut to the flower embellished apron. The ends of this neck piece just needs to be slid through about 1 cm. If you push it through further, the curved portion of the neck piece die cut will curve upwards. I used a strong double adhesive tape to adhere the ends to the back of the apron. 

To make this into a card, I adhered the folding piece to the back of the flower embellished apron, avoiding the score on the vellum. I adhered the other apron die cut to the other half of the folding piece.

To have a finished look, I adhered another neck piece die cut to the back of the neck piece that is adhered to the front of the card. I repeated the process on the back apron die cut, making sure the neck pieces are all aligned. 

I trimmed a sliver off the side of the other two apron die cuts. I adhered this to the inside of the apron card.

I stamped a sentiment to the inside of the card using a sentiment stamp from the Honey Bee You Bake Me Happy stamp set which unfortunately has been retired. Despite this, I think a lot of sentiments that can work with this card.

Dye Ink Colored Shaped Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's post is a continuation of my journey in AECP 2. I am featuring the technique of painting with dye inks on this card. This is my first time to use dye inks for painting. I always use Distress Inks for painting since they are easily activated by water and blending has not been a problem. Had a bit of struggle with the dye ink but I think with practice, I should be able to find my comfort level in using these inks.

I started my card by stamping the image on watercolor paper. The image is from Altenew Up & Away stamp set. Since this is a large image, I used the Misti Stamping Tool to help me achieve a good impression of the image. It took me twice to stamp the whole image but I had to fix some missed spots by re-inking and re-stamping that particular area of the stamp image. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink since I will be painting. 

I taped the stamped watercolor panel to a board for some warp control while I paint. I applied a bit of the ink from the ink pad to a palette. I am using Altenew dye inks, Vineyard Berry, Heart Beat, Pink Pearl and Pink Sand. I applied a light wash of the colors over the hot air balloon using a waterbrush. Then I switched to a small brush to add details using the darker ink. 

This image is not within my forte of images that I usually color. That's what great about taking the AECP courses. It challenged me to go beyond my comfort level. Try other things. 

I die cut the image using the matching die. To create this into a shaped card, I trimmed a heavy weight cardstock at 11" x 5 1/4". I scored this on the long end at 5 1/2". Using the die I used to die cut the hot air balloon, I positioned this die close to the folded edge, making sure the die has an overhang on the folded edge. This prevents the die from cutting that side of the card, thus preserved the fold.

I also made sure that I like the orientation of the hot air balloon. I did this by re-positioning the hot air balloon die cut over the note card, then I matched the die over it. I temporarily taped the metal die then removed the die cut. I passed this through the die cut machine. Took me at least four times to get the note card cut on both the front and back sides.

I used the negative cut created above as a holding piece for the painted die cut as I stamp the sentiment. I positioned this on the Misti Stamping Tool. Using the holding piece helped in positioning the sentiment in relation to the fold of the card. I prepped the area for embossing with a powder tool. I stamped the sentiment, which is from the same stamp set, onto the painted die cut using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I poured clear embossing powder to this then heat set it. I repeated this process for the sub-sentiment. 

The sentiment somehow is unreadable because of the black outlines of the hot air balloon. To make the sentiment pop, I outlined it with a Zebra Mild gray Highlighter Midliner. This did not have the same effect on the sub-sentiment. I painted a white paint marker over the grayed sub-sentiment. I wiped the paint off the embossed letters. 

I have some residual inks on my palette. Instead of putting this into waste, I picked some of these inks with a water brush and flicked it on the hot air balloon.

I adhered this to the shaped card, matching the die cut with the shaped card. I embellished this with some pink sequins.

Whew! I thought I won't able to pull this course together. My first attempt didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be. I am so glad I have a back-up plan.

Shaped Mini Christmas Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I created this card to join the latest Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge with the theme of snowman.

To create my card, I die cut a light blue cardstock using the Honey Bee Coffee Cup Gift Card Holder die. I die cut the whole coffee cup. I partially died the part without lid. I cut this piece twice, trimming it just right above score line created by the die. 

On one of the panels cut above, I die cut a circle window on the center. I aligned this to the whole coffee cup die cut, temporarily taping it. I positioned this in the Misti Stamping Tool. I positioned the circle snowman stamp inside the window and picked this up with the Misti door. I removed the window panel. I stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored the image with Faber Castell Polycromos color pencils. The image is from Avery Elle Holiday Circle Tags clear stamp set.

I swiped a baby wipe on the two-coffee cup die cuts. I embossed this piece with the Simon Says Stamp Refined Snowflakes embossing folder. Adding moisture to the cardstock prevents paper cracking when embossed. I adhered the window piece to the front of the coffee cup die cut, aligning the window to the stamp image. I adhered the other one to the back. 

I die cut the coffee cup lid on a a blue cardstock. I die cut two pieces of this. I adhered this to the lid portion of the coffee cup die cut.

I stamped a sentiment on the inside. You can temporarily adhere a gift card to the inner front flap, if you want to.

Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge

Coffee Cup Shaped Bottom Fold Card

 

Hello! I am a Guest Designer at Coffee Loving Cardmakers Blog. I am so glad to be a given a chance to do this.

I used the Honey Bee Coffee Cup Gift Card Holder to cut the coffee cup. Even though this die is intended to create a gift card holder, it does not mean we cannot create other things using this die, right? I enjoy creating new things out of specialty dies.

I usually sketch my plan before I start creating. It makes the process easy for me. I did a bit of partial die cutting to achieve the layers I need to create the cup. 

I cross stitched a heart on a cardstock. The holes were created using a Paper Smooches Cross Stitch die. I traced a heart on the holed panel and used this as a guide in stitching the heart. I am using a variegated DMC floss. I adhered a scrap heart die cut on the back of the stitched to heart to keep the stitching secure. I then carefully fussy cut the heart, making sure I don't cut any cross stitching.

I heat embossed the sentiment on vellum using Versafine Onyx Black ink and clear embossing powder. The sentiment is from the Honey Bee Perfect Blend stamp set. Using a scrap cross stitched holed panel as a guide, I poked holes on the vellum around the sentiment. I trimmed off the excess on the sides of the sentiment strip. I stitched a silver floss to create a frame around the sentiment and at the same time, secure the vellum sentiment strip to the stitched heart. 

I die cut arms using the Honey Bee Paper Hugs Honey Cuts. I layered each arm with two die cuts for some dimension. I adhered the arms to the heart with a liquid adhesive.

I hope you like this shaped card I created. The sentiment I chose for this card means a lot to me. I feel like I created this card to give to myself because I needed someone to say this to me during this time. How about you?
