Extending The Use Of Christmas Themed Stamps (New Craft Stash #11)

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. For today's post, I am featuring a stamp set that I bought last October with the intent to use it in my Christmas cards but did not get to using it. I don't want to wait until the next Christmas to use it. So I challenged myself to use a Christmas stamp set for a non-Christmas theme. That's what I did for this card. I am featuring the Avery Elle Holiday Circle Tags clear stamp set, using the penguin to create a winter themed card. 

I stamped the penguin on watercolor paper Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I colored the penguins with Karin markers. I die cut the penguins using a die from the My Favorite Things Circle Stax die set.

I trimmed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Doodlebug Frosty Friends 6x6 patterned paper. I die cut 3 circle windows using a smaller circle die from the same circle stax die. I heat embossed the snowflakes from the same stamp set on the patterned paper using Wow! Silver Pearl embossing powder. For the sentiment, I heat embossed this using white embossing powder. The sentiment is from Mama Elephant Season Greetings stamp set. 

I blended Tim Holtz Dusty Concord Distress Ink on the edges of the circle windows. I applied Lawn Fawn Liquid Stardust to the outline of the circle windows using a sponge brush. I adhered the cut up penguins to the back of the patterned paper, making sure the penguin is centered on the window.

I scattered and adhered some Trinity Stamps snowflakes on the panel.

Purple Ppinky Dolls Christmas Card

It is a Sketch Challenge at Incy Wincy Designs Challenge Blog. I am using an image from one of our sponsors, Ppinky Dolls, named Little Star.

I'll be honest. I had difficulty coloring this image. In fact, the last time we were sponsored by Ppinky Dolls, I did not give justice to the pretty image with my coloring. I requested this image for the DT. It is just right for me to use it in my creation for this challenge. I think this is my third try in coloring this image. I finally gave up on using watercolor pencils and resorted to colored pencils. I think I finally found the recipe to coloring Ppinky Dolls!

After coloring the image, using an old tool by EK Success Curvy Cutter, I cut this into an oval. I am out of practice using this tool, since in my failed coloring, wherein I cut the paper first before coloring, I frayed the paper at the edges. I still did it on this one but it wasn't as bad as the first two times. I smoothed the edges using a file.

I applied a thin layer of Tim Holtz Distress Glaze to the colored images. I buffed the excess off using a rag. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Broken China to the background. The Distress Glaze protected the colored images from the ink blending. It also protected the image from the water I spritz to the blended background. I picked up the droplets with a paper towel. Using Distress Glaze saved me a lot of time from creating a paper mask and/or applying masking fluid to the image. It did create a halo around the images which actually made the image pop.

I added a lot of details to this digital image. When I say a lot, it is A LOT! I cut a scalloped oval using the Cricut Design Space. I also used the CDS to cut a white pearl mat for the image. I am using Doodlebug Frosty Friends 6x6 paper pad for the patterned papers. The quarter panels have stitched borders on it. I used Lawn Fawn Stitched Borders to create the stitches. The sentiment was also stamped on patterned paper from the same collection. I heat embossed this using white powder. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Ink Faded Jeans to make the sentiment pop. The embossing resisted the inking but I did have to wipe off the ink from the embossed sentiment. I fuzzy cut the sentiment. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn Ready, Set, Snow stamp set. It is a curved sentiment but with the use of a ruler, I straightened the sentiment then picked it up with the acrylic block. I applied some Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Confetti Silver Mix as an add-on.

Pop-Up Scene Card

It is a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. The image I am using is from one of our sponsors for this challenge. The moment I saw this image, I knew I have to use it for an interactive card. I created a layered pop-up scene card! There are lots of detail in creating this card. I think the process of creating this card will be better described in a video tutorial. Too complicated and confusing if I try to post the instructions here in the blog. Anyway, if you have any questions on how certain parts of the card was created, feel free to post it in the comment section. I will get back to you as soon as I can. In the meantime, I am posting photos and a little description. Enjoy!

This is the front of the card. To unify the design of the card front and the inside of the card, I used sentiments from one stamp set, Mama Elephant. I used the same technique, heat embossing. And I used patterned papers from the same paper pad, Doodlebug Frosty Friends.

This is a shot of the card from the top showing my own created pop up mechanism. With the growing cardmaking industry, some companies sell pop-up dies to make these cards easy to create. I don't have one so I made my own pop-up mechanism using scored cardstock strips and a very strong adhesive.

A close-up of the scene. Aren't the images so, so cute? My mistake in placing my watermark on the banner but I hope you can appreciate it on the other photos.

I applied glue to the trim of the snowman's hat using a glue pen. I poured Wow! White Puff Powder embossing powder, heat set it, and look at that!

Christmas Tree Petal Die Cut Card

I have two motivations in creating this card. One of which is to join the Avery Elle's challenge. The other motivation is to use Doodlebug Frosty Friends 6x6 paper pad for this card. I am so excited to mash up these two brand of products into creating this card. The focal point of the card will be the tree. I used the petal cut from Avery Elle Custom Panels Elle-ments. I cut this three times. The only way to make it look like a tree, as suggested by my eldest son Rudy is to stagger the size of the die cut, with the top being smaller then gradually getting bigger. So I trimmed the sides of the two pieces. I am enjoying using my decorative edge scissors ever since I used it on a previous project. I trimmed the curve edge of the petal making sure that I follow the curve of the petal while I am cutting. I added some details to the dot randomly using Uniball Signo White Broad and Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust Clear pens. I inked the edges. I scored the die cuts. I staggered these die cuts and adhered it using a dimensional tape. Now, the tree is done and it is time to create the background.

After choosing the pattern papers that I will be using for the card, I cut the gray patterned paper using SSS Stitched Rectangles die. I used this to cut a light blue patterned paper but I only cut it at 3" long so I can save on paper. This will serve as the ground for the tree and the area where I will be stamping the sentiment. I use the curve die from the Custom Panels.

To create the sentiment, I masked the word birthday from the Avery Elle Brushed Stamps to stamp the word happy using Versamark ink. I applied Ranger Liquid Platinum to this and heat embossed it. To complete the sentiment, I used Technique Tuesday Say It-Happy stamp set. This was also stamped using Versamark and embossed with the same powder.

For the trunk of the tree, I use Art Alternatives Barc Wood tape. I die cut using the stitched edge of the SSS Stitched Rectangle die just to trim the width down and also to get the stitched impression.

Before adhering the patterned papers, I spritz the gray patterned paper with pearlized water. I zapped this with a heat gun to dry it. I tried to captured the glimmer in camera but I couldn't. I adhered the slope patterned paper to this using foam adhesive. I adhered the barc tape next and applied some foam tape to the back of the overhang tape to make it even with the slope. I adhered the tree next using double foam adhesive. I then applied the hexagon die cut to the top of the tree. This was cut from gold glitter tape and using the middle sized hexagon from the Custom Panels. I also punched a star using a silver glitter tape which I adhered with a doubled foam tape at the back.

I cut a 4 1/2 x 5 1/4 blue paper from the same Doodlebug line. I adhered this to a white notecard. I then adhered the patterned paper panel to this.
