Stitched Window Card

Today's card features the Kat Scrappiness Reindeer Duo Craft Dies. I used the largest reindeer in the set for my card. Instead of using the positive die cut created by the die, I die cut the reindeer on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" patterned paper to create a window. On another 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white cardstock, I added stitching holes to this panel and stitched on it with an embroidery floss. I used the window panel as a guide to make sure I stitched on the area that will show through reindeer window. 

Once I was done with the stitching, I blended ink on the edges of the window panel using a blue ink. I added an outline to the deer window. To create this, I popped the die back on the window. Using an embossing pen, I traced the outer edge of the die on the patterned paper. I poured a blue pearl powder to the outline. I brushed off any excess then, heat embossed the powder until it was melted.

I adhered the window panel to the stitched panel. I adhered blue sequins to the panel for additional sparkle.

Using a Small Stamp to Create a Background

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project is a part of the Kat Scrappiness IG Hop. The theme is Stamp It Out where you are encouraged to use a stamp from your KS stamp sets and create your own background. I am using a bow stamp from the Easter Quokkas stamp set which is the only KS stamp set I have at the moment. I challenge you to look at what KS stamp set/s you have and create something from it in line with the challenge theme. 

I stamped the bow repeatedly using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I stamped a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" white cardstock. You don't have to stamp on the same size of paper. I just opted to do this just in case I wanted to use only a part of this DIY background paper or in my case, I used all of it. I colored the bows with Copic markers, adding details to some bows with gel pens or shimmer pens.

I trimmed a heavyweight white cardstock at 4 1/4". I scored this at 5 1/2" to create a vertical card. I am using both card bases since my card is a trifold card. I trimmed a sliver off the side from the back flap just so that the card will be snugged with each other.

I trimmed the stamped panel at 4 1/4". I adhered each panel to the front of the card bases keeping in mind that the card base that will be adhered to the back has the fold to its right. 

For the card that is going to be the front, I die cut the shadow of the KS Happy Birthday Word with Shadow die set to create a window.

I die cut the sentiment on black cardstock twice then adhered it on top of each other for a raised effect. 

I die cut the shadow on vellum. I adhered the sentiment die cut to this.

I applied glue to the card with right side fold. I applied the glue on the inner left portion of the card. I adhered this part of the card to the back of the window card to create the trifold mechanism. 

I applied dots of glue to the back of the vellum making sure the glue is applied to the back of the sentiment die cut to hide the adhesive. With the front fold closed, I pieced the vellum to the window of the front fold so it will adhere to the inside flap positioned perfectly. The shadow die created a long piece extending to the inside left side of the sentiment which I trimmed off since it does not have enough support. You can keep this as part of your window card design but I suggest adding an acetate to the back of the stamped panel before adhering it to the card front for support. 

I replaced the tittle of the letter i with the same bow. I stamped this on white cardstock, colored it with a Wink of Stella black shimmer pen, and fussy cut it. I cut off the bow tails so I can make it shorter than the original stamp image. I adhered this to the top of the letter i. I added Ranger Multi-Media glue on the back of the bow ends and tails to raise it a bit. Once this has dried, I added Ranger Glossy Accents to the ribbon. I set this aside to dry.

Adding Color to Ephemera (New Craft Stash #15)

Hello! Welcome to a New Craft Stash post. Today, I am featuring the Pinkfresh Studio Let's Stay Home Ephemera Pack. I also created this card to join in Pinkfresh Studio's latest blog challenge. 

I created a background using strips of cardstock. I trimmed different colored cardstocks with the color palette of the challenge in mind. I trimmed the cardstocks in different widths. 

I cut a typing paper at 3 3/4" x 8 3/4" and applied glue all over it. I adhered the strips of cardstock next to each other, repeating the pattern of colors until the whole typing paper is completely covered. I set this aside to dry with something heavy laying on top of it.

Once the panel is dry, I die cut it using the Pinkfresh Studio Slim Stitched Scallop Die. 

I created a frame for the scallops by partially die cutting a gold cardstock with the scallop frame window on the slim die. I die cut this again using a circle die that is slightly larger than the stitching created by the slim die. I adhered this to the scallop windows carefully lining up the scallops and the mini dot openings created by the die.

After choosing the ephemera pieces for this card, I added color to the outline images with Prismacolor color pencils. 

To assemble the card, I adhered the ephemera piece with the sentiment to the back of the center scallop window. I adhered this panel to a side folding white notecard. I adhered the floral ephemera pieces with foam adhesive.

Watercolor Marker Colored Vellum Card

I wiped a used dryer sheet onto the vellum I will be stamping on. Using Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink, I stamped the MFT Roses All Over Background stamp to this. I poured black embossing powder to the stamped background. I rarely use black embossing powder but I wanted to create a vibrant black background. Making sure the heat gun is heated enough, I zapped the vellum, moving the heat gun so as not to scorch the vellum.

Now its time to color. I colored the reverse side of the embossed vellum. I usually use Copics to color this but the colors I am using are not bright enough to be seen at the right side of the image. So, I tried the watercolor markers. I used two brands of watercolor markers for this project since I am still building up my color collection. I just used the markers itself to blend and move the color. I did not attempt to use a water brush for fear of warping the vellum.

For the outline, I re-made a die cut window card using a rectangle die. (The first time I made a card using this technique, I used a circle die. Here is the link to that post, http://ienjoywhatido.blogspot.com/2014/11/one-paper-pack-self-challenge.html.) I die cut the sentiment three more times to create a stacked sentiment embellishment. Since the rectangle die is smaller than an A2 card, I trimmed the vellum panel to the same size as the rectangle die. This also served as a place where I applied liquid adhesive to attach the vellum.

I want to still create an A2 card. To fill in the gap at the sides of the rectangle, I cut strips of cardstock to go around the rectangle panel. I adhered the rectangle panel to the note card with foam adhesive making sure the foam tape is not too wide to show through the vellum panel. I applied Wink of Stella to the sentiment for shimmer.
