Using Digital Paper to Create a 3D Embellishment

 

Hello! Welcome back my blog. Do you remember when rosettes were on trend? It seems to be more work back then with scoring and folding the paper. Nowadays, manufacturers made it easier to create rosettes  with the creation of specialty dies that cut and score the paper for you. Also, rosettes are not limited to the circular rosettes anymore. There are dies that create shaped rosettes just like the one that I used on today's project.

I used a digital image from the Blank Page Muse Vibrant Spring Digital Paper Bundle for the butterflies. This bundle includes a sheet of digital paper which I resized to fit the butterfly. I like the colors on this bundle. Very bold and vibrant!

I die cut the butterflies on the printed digital paper using The Stamp Market Butterfly Rosette die. I folded the scores created by die and reinforced the folds with a bone folder. To keep the shape of the butterfly rosette, you just knot a string on the center. There is a groove that nestles the string. I added a dot of glue on the knot to make sure the knot will not get undone.

For the body of the butterfly, I die cut this on a silver glitter paper and a rainbow holographic paper. I die cut extras on heavy weight cardstock to layer on the back of the specialty paper. I adhered this to the center of the butterfly. I adhered baubles to the body of the butterfly.

There are lots of uses for this butterfly rosette. It can be used to embellish a card, a gift topper, create a mobile, a wreath, add to a flower bouquet, lots of possibilities.

Using Stash Digital Paper

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Blank Page Muse has several printable paper digital download sets. I have created several projects using some of it (I linked these projects at the bottom in case you would like to check it out.) and have accumulated a stash of printed digital paper. Yes! I keep the smallest scraps just in case I will use it for later. You never know.

I die cut the Christmas tree using the La-la Land Crafts Layered Christmas Tree Die. The digital paper is from the BPM Frosty Night Christmas. The design of this digital paper gave the tree some texture. To add more texture to the tree, I used a Versamark pen to line the tree tips. I poured Ranger Verdigris embossing powder to the sticky ink and heat set it. I inked the curved edge of the tree layers with Tim Holtz Pine Needle Distress Ink to add some depth.

The tree trunk was die cut on pearl brown cardstock. The star was die cut on a scrap digital paper from BPM A Cozy Fall Harvest. 

For the background, I used the BPM Butterfly Trails Circles Patterns stencil. I treated a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" light blue cardstock with anti-static tool. I pounced Versamark ink on the stencil. I poured Hero Arts Iridescent Blue embossing powder over the sticky ink and heat embossed it. The nice thing about this powder is its look changes depending on how the light hits it. 

I blended Tim Holtz Prize Ribbon Distress ink over the embossed panel. I wiped the panel with a dry cloth to remove the ink off the embossed circles.

I stamped the letters from the I Brake For Stamp License Plate Vintage Style Alphabet rubber stamp on white cardstock. I used the Misti Stamping tool and a Misti Sticky Mat to do my stamping. I adhered the red rubber stamp on the sticky mat. I temporarily adhered my cardstock on the door of the Misti. I selectively inked the stamp, inking only the letters that I will be needing for my sentiment. 

I heat set the stamped letters to speed dry it then trimmed it to make this into blocked letters. I blended Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink on each letter. I am not sure why the letters smeared despite heating it and leaving it for a while. So from blending, I pounced the Distress Ink over the letter cut out. The smeared look did not bother me so I left it as is and used it on my project.

I adhered the red plaid paper to the blue dotted embossed paper. The red plaid paper is also a digital paper from the BPM Frosty Night Christmas. This was a left over cut out from a die. I adhered the Christmas tree to center. I adhered the letters to the red plaid paper. 

To add some dimension to the letters, I added Ranger Glossy Accents to it. I left this to dry overnight. 

I added red gems to the tree and an orange gem on the star. I 'zhuzh' the end of the trees to give it more dimension.

Playing With Embossing Paste

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. I had a bit of struggle creating this project. A lot of things going on with my life that I am afraid that it is draining me including my creative juices. When this happens to me, I usually spend time looking at my craft supplies and see if it will spark up some ideas. If that does not work, I go to the internet and look for projects using similar craft supplies that I have. This usually does the trick. 

Back to the project, I am using products from Blank Page Muse:

The stencil measures 3" x 8". I cut a white cardstock using the same dimensions. I temporarily adhered the stencil over the paper with tape. I applied white embossing paste over the stencil with a palette knife making sure I covered all openings with the paste. I gently lifted the stencil off the paper and set this aside to dry. I immediately washed the stencil and the palette knife with warm, soapy water. 

Once the paste was dry (I left mine to dry overnight), I spritz colors to the panel using different colors of stains and spray from Tim Holtz. I followed a rainbow order with the colors. I was hoping that the dried paste will keep its stark white color but it absorbed the ink colors. To mute the colors of the paste, I added another layer of embossing paste. This time, I slightly offset the stencil to create a shadow. I also poured Judikins Iridiscent Sparkle embossing powder over the paste. I set this aside to dry. Once the paste has dried, I zapped the powder with the heat gun to melt it.

I stamped the image from the BPM Woodlands Art Rubber stamp set on white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I dried the ink with a heat gun before painting the image using the same colors I used on the panel. I used three additional colors of stains in coloring the image. I fussy cut the image leaving a narrow border around it. 

If you look closely, the image has a bit of dimension. It took me three times to come up with the final colored piece. I was adding shimmer to the heart on the hair using my black Wink of Stella when a blob of black ink dropped. Very frustrating and it did it again! On the third try, I decided to pick the shimmer ink from a palette and paint it on the heart. The shimmer was not as great compared to adding the ink from the brush marker. I added black Stickles over the heart and allowed it to dry. 

So as not to waste my first two attempts on this image, I adhered these pieces to the back of the final colored piece. The edges are not perfectly aligned but I don't think it is very noticeable. 

I stamped the sentiment on vellum using Versafine Onyx Black ink. If I am going to redo this step, I will use a fast drying ink next time like Stazon so I don't have to deal with smearing the letters. Despite heat setting the letters, it remained wet for a while. The ink I used will work if I added embossing powder to it and heat set it. But I want to keep the letters flat so as not to compete with the embossed circles. 

I cut the words apart so I can adhere it to the panel next to the circle scroll pattern. I adhered the image to the bottom left portion of the panel. 

I backed this panel with another heavy weight white cardstock to make it sturdy. I don't now what to do with this project yet. For now, it is ready to be added to a notecard or a scrapbook layout. It can also be used as a bookmark.

No Sentiment Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's card features products from Kat Scrappiness. It is also a card for any occasion since I left the front panel 'sentiment-less'. In this way, it gives you more options on how to use this card. You can adhere a sentiment strip or a sentiment die cut to the panel depending on the occasion. Or you can just leave the card as is. 

I am using the Kat Scrappiness Layered Tulip Bouquet Craft dies on this card. As the name of the die set implies, this is meant to create a bouquet of tulips. For this project, instead of using all the dies included in this set, I only used the tulip buds to give this die set a different look. 

The die set includes three tulip dies including the layering piece for each tulip. To make it easier in pairing the tulip base die with the layering piece die, I marked each tulip pair die with a paint marker using a different color for each pair. I marked the dies on the non-cutting side of the die as seen below. The paint tends to come off with continued use. Just re-paint the die pairs before storing it.

Back on the project, I die cut the tulips on different colored cardstocks. Since these tulips are small, this is such a great way to use those scraps. I adhered the layering piece on top of each base tulip die cut. I set this aside to dry.

For the card front panel, I die cut a white cardstock using the KS Buffalo Plaid Background Craft die. I adhered this to a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" white cardstock. I adhered the tulips on the solid square portion of the plaid die. 

Once I have filled up the entire panel with tulips, I added details to the tulips using a white gel pen.

I like cover dies because of the details it adds to the card panel. I also like flower die cuts especially the 3D ones. Who needs real flowers when you can create a paper flower that does not wilt?

Stenciled Faux Stitched Greeting Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. It is the first day of the month which means it is time for a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. This month's theme/s is/are Winter, Snow and/or Summer Flowers. I picked the theme of Summer Flowers so I can play with The Greetery craft items I have in my stash.

The Greetery Rose Tapestry stencil I used on this project creates a floral tapestry which is right on my alley. To give it a more stitched look, I added piercings using The Greetery Aida Cloth Texture plate. 

The images were stenciled on white cardstock. To mute the bright white, I blended ink over the white panel using the lightest pink dye ink I used for the layered flowers. This technique also allowed for the sentiment to pop out.

I flicked some mica pigment over the panel. I heat set this to dry.

The sentiment was die cut on white cardstock using a die from The Greetery Stitched Sentiments die set. I die cut two extra pieces of this sentiment, then adhered this on top of each other for some dimension.

I added pink baubles to the center of the flowers.
