Silhouette Stamps with Acrylic Markers

 

Hello! I am back on the Blank Page Muse Blog with this card. For the month of March, I am planning to showcase this BPM stamp, the Wildflower Silhouette Border Style Red Rubber Stamp, on my projects. I am going to use this stamp in different ways to show its versatility. 

I used the Altenew Acrylic Marker Volume 1. I chose three colors to create an ombre pattern on a black watercolor paper. I blended the colors using a flat watercolor brush.

Since acrylic markers are opaque, I can stamp over it. I used the VersaFine Clair Nocturne Pigment ink. I stamped the image on a plastic film first. I used this as a guide so I would know where to stamp the image on the watercolor paper. Aside from the stamp positioner and the plastic film, I also used an L shaped ruler in determining the spot where to stamp the image.

I stamped the image three times to make it more stark black. I dried the image with a heat tool. I die cut the panel using a Simon Says Stamp stitched rectangle die. I created a stitched frame on white cardstock using the same die set. I also die cut a Hero Arts wood grain frame die on black cardstock. 

The sentiment is from the Altenew Essential Sentiment Strips Die Set. I did a partial die cutting technique to extend the length of the sentiment on a black mirror cardstock. I colored a strip of black cardstock with the light green acrylic marker I used on the background. I adhered the sentiment strip to this colored strip. The green color shows through the holes created by the sentiment strip die.  

Without taking into account the die cutting, this card is very easy to make with its simple design. If you don't have acrylic markers or paint, you can use a pigment ink or oxide inks which also have opaque properties. You can aslo embossed the flowers with embossing powder to make it stand out some more.

Almost a One Layer Card

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's project is the featured card on my first blog post at the I Brake For Stamps Blog. IBFS is the sister company of the Blank Page Muse stamps. I am so grateful that the DT is allowed to cross over between the two. 

I am using a silhouette stamp from the IBFS on this card, Seibold Succulent Solid Set. Silhouette stamps were not my preference since I love to color. But I saw the different techniques you can do with silhouette stamps that I went out of my comfort zone and gave this type of stamps a try. 

I used a heavy weight A2 sized note card. I temporarily adhered the stencil from BPM, Blocks Pattern Stencil, to the card front. I covered the rest of the card with Post-It notes to prevent putting ink on these areas. I blended inks that are in the same color family with gradating shades. I lightly blended one color of ink over the stencil. After which, I cleaned the stencil and placed the stencil back over the card front off setting it toward the bottom right. I repeated the process using a different shade of ink until the whole panel is covered with different shades of ink blended blocks.

I bravely stamped the silhoutte stamp on the bottom right of the card front since I want this to be a one layer card. I did not get a good impression on my first try. Good thing that I used a stamp positioner but on my re-stamp, despite using the stamp positioner, the image was distorted. I must have moved my stamp positioner.

I didn't want to pitch my ink blended note card so I stamped the succulent on a white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I did not get a good impression the first time again. It took me four attempts, three rejects, to finally get a good impression, can you believe that?! 

The ink was taking too much time to dry despite using a heat gun so I went ahead and poured embossing powder over it, then heat set it. I fussy cut the image leaving a small border around it. I directly adhered this to the card front, covering my boo-boo. 

I used my oldie but goodie typewriter to create a sentiment strip.

Stitching on Silhouette Stamped Images

 

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Thank you for your patience. This is the edited version of my previous post. This card was created with several blog challenges in mind. These blog challenges are linked below.

I started off by die cutting a circle using the largest circle die from the My Favorite Things Wonky Stitched Circle die set. The paper I am using is Strathmore Bristol paper. I cut this circle in half. I blended ink on these half circles using Tim Holtz Distress inks. The colors I used are Wild Honey and Carved Pumpkin. I flicked some water to these half circles, and picked these water droplets with a dry paper towel. The color inspiration is from the Simon Says Stamp IG June Challenge. The layout is from the latest MFT Sketch Challenge. 

I stamped the silhoutte flowers on these half circles. The Misti Stamping Tool was very useful in this process. After I stamped the flower on one of the half-circles, I simply replace this stamped half circle with the other half circle & re-stamped the image. If I did not get a clean stamped impression, I can re-stamp the flower with the help of this tool. The stamp I am using came from an April 2021 Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Kit. The ink I used for stamping is Versafine Onyx Black ink.

I poked holes on the stamped flowers and leaves. I added some stitching detials on these stamped images using the same colors as the color inspiration reversing it, stitching yellow on the orange background, and vice versa. I used a DMC metallic floss for the stems and leaves. 

I created the panel using a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Strathmore Bristol paper. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers on this panel. I flicked water droplets on this panel and picked the water droplets with a dry paper towel.

Using the Misti Stamping Tool again, I positioned this blue blended panel on the Misti, and also temporarily positioned the half circles so that I will get an idea where to stamp the sentiment. I prepped the area with an anti-static powder tool. I stamped the sentiment, also from the same stamp set, using Versafine Onxy Black ink. I poured clear embossing powder to it, and heat set it.

I stamped flowers on each side of the sentiment using the same ink. I heat set this to dry. I poked holes on these flowers and added stitching to it, just like what I did on the half circles.

I adhered the half circles to the blue blended panel with foam adhesive. I adhered this to a top folding A2 note card.

Altenew March 2023 Marvelous Monthly Series Release Blog Hop #2 + Giveaway ($300 in Total Prizes!)

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today's post is an extra special one for I am taking part in Altenew's Marvelous Monthly Series Release for March. Eeek! I can't believe it myself. Anyway, I am glad you came my blog's way. I hope you like the cards I created featuring the Mini Delight: Cafe' Au Lait Dahlia stamp set and coordinating die set. I rarely use silhouette stamps because I don't get good stamped impressions with these kinds of stamps. Thanks to the Misti Stamping Tool, this is not a problem anymore. In fact, there are many techniques you can do with silhouette stamps. The cards I created show some of these techniques.

For my first card, I added shading to the stamped image. I used a light-colored dye ink and also used second generation stamping for the image. I don't want the stamped image to be too dark that it will be difficult to add shading to the image that's why I used second generation stamping.    

For the second card, I stamped the image over a blended ink blended background using a black dye ink. This technique is very common these days. I masked the top and bottom portions of the panel. The masking paper was die cut with a deckled rectangle die. You can use shaped mask to add a blended image. You can also have the silhouette image stamped beyond the blended background. Lots of potential with this technique, a technique I learned from one of the AECP 2 courses on Masking Unleashed. Creating backgrounds with masking is one of the classes in this course. 

For the third card, I stamped the flower on a different colored cardstock. I stamped the flower using a coordinating color of Tim Holtz Oxide ink. Just make sure the cardstock is lighter in color than the Oxide ink or else the flower will not be visible. Another option is to heat emboss this with clear embossing powder. Heat embossing makes the color darker than its original tone. I die cut the flowers using the coordinating die. 

To save time from trying to find the matching points of the stamped flower with the die, place a dot on one of the most prominent flower tips of the die with the use of a marker. On the plastic sheet that holds the stamps, on the printed side, put a dot on the side of the flower tip that matches the tip of the flower where the metal die has a dot as shown above.

I also stamped the leaves in the stamp set and die cut the leaves with the matching dies. I created a background panel using the flowers and leaves die cuts.

First Recollection Card

Hello. My 2nd Grader is reaching a milestone in his religious life this Thursday. He will have his first Confession. As part of the preparation, we were asked to make him an encouragement letter. I created this card for him.

The digital cut images are from the Silhouette Design Store, the Ornate Christian Cross Card and the First Communion Boy Box. After I uploaded the images to the Cricut Design Space, I modified the size of the card to an A2 size. I only used the boy cut on the boy box.

I cut the intricate background three times. I sprayed one of the background cuts and the cross with WPlus9 Shimmer Pure Color Spray. I set this aside to dry. Once the background cut is dry, I adhered this on top of the other background cuts for a stacked look.

The boy digital cut is a layered cut. Using the CDS, I welded the layers to create a solid boy cut to create a backer for the layers. I die cut the layers using different colored cardstock. I had the CDS draw the face using a black marker. I traced this lines with a Black Sakura Glaze pen for dimension. I also used Copic markers to add shadowing to the boy's suit and the hands.

I embossed the left over negative oval cut from the background using a We R Memory Keepers Next Level embossing folder. I adhered this to a light blue 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" cardstock. I tucked the boy to the bottom of the window.

For the sentiment, I used the Honey Bee Prayer and Bless Your Heart stamp sets to create a customized sentiment. I stamped this on a banner cut with the Lawn Fawn Fancy Folded Banner die. I stamped this with a light blue dye ink. I adhered this with a transparent dimensional tape on the front of the cross.
