Valentines Give Away

Hello! Today is my son's class Valentine's party. Because of the pandemic, the party is restricted to having their Valentines snack together and exchanging Valentines which they will not read until Tuesday. Their Valentines will stay in school over the long weekend.

If you've been following me, Valentines is one of the occasions that I create classroom give aways. For this year, my son and I decided to give plantable hearts which we bought at Paper Source.

I re-packed the hearts using left over cellophane packaging. I used the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool to seal the edges of the cellophane with a square metal die as a guide.

Instead of creating a plain Valentines' card that will hold the plantable hearts, I made this into a bookmark. I cut a 12x12 colored cardstock into 12" x 3". I scored this at 5 3/4" for the center fold. I scored it again at 5 1/4" and 6 1/4" for the top fold. I will explain its purpose later on.

I die cut the letters, L, V, E. One on patterned paper and the other on cardstock. I adhered the letter cardstock die cut on the back of the letter patterned paper die cut for some dimension. The letter dies are from the Concord and 9th Love You So die set.

Using the letters as a guide, I die cut the O on the front flap of the bookmark to create a window, keeping the O letter die cut aside to be used later on.

To add a subtle background to the front flap, I stamped the My Favorite Things Typewriter Text Cling Background stamp using Hero Arts Sea Salt Reactive Ink. I masked the top flap with a Post It note. I had to change ink colors with the Mint cardstock to Simon Says Stamp Mint ink since the white ink won't show on the mint cardstock.

I adhered the L, V, E. I stamped another sentiment from the Concord and 9th Love You So stamp set using Versafine Onyx Black ink.

I punched a slot hole on the top flap. I will thread a ribbon through this later on.

I punched a notch on the back bottom flap, the one using We R Memory Keepers Envelope Notcher Punch. This will keep the card shut closed by inserting the front flap to the notch.

For the inside of the card, I adhered the letter O, using the window as a guide for placement. I added a removable Glue Dot on the center of the O. I adhered the packed plantable Valentines' heart to this glue dot. This will show through the window on the front panel. When the plantable hearts package is removed, the sentiment on the front will still be complete with the letter O showing through. I secured the package with a hearts washi tape.

I printed the instructions for the plantable heart on a piece of typing paper. I trimmed this and adhered it with a temporary tape runner to the bottom of the packaging.

Remember the top fold I mentioned earlier? I adhered the top fold shut with double adhesive tape. This will give some stability to the top of the bookmark. I threaded a ribbon through the slot. I squirted some glue to keep the ribbon in place. I added a bow twine to the ribbon. I used the Lawn Fawn Unicorn Tail Sparkle Cord. I squirted more glue to keep the bow intact.

My son, Ryan, wrote his name in the bottom.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!
