More Cupcake Shaped Cards

My 5-year old is the kindest kid in his class. I am saying this not because he is my son but he remembers his classmates' birthdays, and asks his mom to create something for his classmate celebrating his or her birthday. Don't you wish you have a classmate like him?

There are two girls who are celebrating their birthdays today. Last night, he asked me to create two cupcakes for the girls. He chose two different cupcakes from my images in the Cricut Design Space. He assigned the colors of each cupcake based on each girl's favorite color. Can you believe that? He even knows the kid's favorite color.

And these are the cupcakes I came up with. I made some modifications on the image cut as mentioned below. I am proud of myself with these finished cards because all the supplies used are from whatever I have in hand.

The purple cupcake is from Cricut Blast Off Cartridge called Yellow Cupcake. This is a Cricut Imagine image that is a print and cut image. I edited it into a cut image and layered it. I cut the matte layer twice to make a fold on the back for the personalized sentiment. I cut the cupcake wrapper using a Doodlebug patterned paper. I ran this through a Fiskar paper crimper. For the icing, I used a Heidi Swapp stencil and a sponge dauber to apply Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Seedless Preserve. The good thing about Distress Inks is that it remains wet for a while. I poured Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder to the dots, and heat embossed it.

This image comes with a cherry on top which I replaced with a die cut flower. The flower die is from Paper Smooches. These flower die cuts are extras from a previous project which I kept inside the sleeve together with the metal dies. The white flower is cut out of fun foam. I  applied clear Spectrum Noir Shimmer pen to the flower. I adhered a Doodlebug sequin to the flower center and applied Nuvo Glitter Drop to cover the sequin hole. The sentiment is from Hampton Art. I embossed the sentiment using Wow! Pearl White embossing powder. I cut the ends of the sentiment strip to create a fishtail banner. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Dusty Concord to this strip to make the sentiment pop out some more. I rubbed the excess ink off the sentiment using a dry cloth.

The red cupcake is a cut image from Cricut Create A Critter cartridge. I have used this image before on a card but as an interactive die cut. I edited the cut image by removing the smiley face of the cupcake using the Contour feature of the Cricut Design Space. I also removed the slit openings of the cupcake wrapper using the Contour feature. The cut image comes with a cherry on top which I did not want to cut. After ungrouping the layers, I hid the cherry. The bottom layer has the cherry welded to the cupcake so I hid this, too. It should be okay since there is a cupcake layer for me to adhere the rest of the elements of this cut image. The cupcake paper is an Echo Park patterned paper. Like the first cupcake, I ran this through the paper crimper. I cut the frosting and the cupcake using red cardstock. The red cardstock I used on the frosting has some shimmer on it but had a white core so I sponged the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Fired Brick. I used the same stencil but used Versamark ink this time. The Judikins did not show much on top of the shimmery red cardstock, so I positioned my stencil again to match the embossed circles with the open circles of the stencil. I applied Versamark ink again. This time, I used Wow! White Pearl embossing powder. I blended more TH Distress Ink over it to make the circles pop. 

I embellished the cupcake with the same die cut flower from the purple cup

cake. I also used the same sentiment stamp but using a red cardstock strip this time.

Ryan wrote their names and his name on the back, underneath the fold.

Shaker Tag

We have a new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs. Our challenge theme is Tag. I am using an image from one of our sponsors for this challenge. Scrap N' Dipity. As soon as I saw these critter images, I fell in love with it. Aren't they cute?!

I sized the images so it will fit inside the window of the fold out tag. I printed the image on Canson watercolor paper. I colored the images using Zig Clean Color markers. I fuzzy cut the image. I ran a black marker around the cut images. I applied a dot of black Ranger Enamel Accents to the eyes. Once this had dried, I added a small dot of white Ranger Enamel Accents over the dried black enamel  dot.

I am using the Mama Elephant Union Square for the tag. The set includes the window die with the fold-up cover, and the solid tag die. Before I snipped these two dies apart, I cut 3 different colored cardstocks using these dies. Having these two dies attached cut out the window die into the solid tag. If you had these dies already snipped apart, just tape both dies together to re-create the cut.

I then snipped off these two dies apart. Using the solid tag die, I die cut color coordinating patterned papers and a white cardstock. I adhered the white tag die cut to the back of the patterned paper tag die cut to make the tag more sturdy. I misted this patterned paper with diluted Pearl Perfect Pearl for a shimmer effect.

Now, back to working on the window die cut. I embossed a star image to the front of fold-up cover. The star is from the Hero Arts Written In The Stars stamp set. I used Wow! White Pearl embossing powder for a subtle look. I embossed the sentiment on top of the embossed star image. The sentiment if from an old Hampton Art/Doodlebug stamp set. I stamped this using different pigment inks, matching the ink colors with the cardstock colors. I embossed this sentiment using clear embossing powder.

I adhered an acetate to the inner side of the window tag using a double adhesive tape. I then applied Darice Adhesive Strips around the window to form a well. I rubbed an anti-static tool to the inner edge of the foam strips. I poured a mix of sequins to the center of the window. I used the Misti Stamping Tool to line up the corners of the window tag and the patterned paper. Yes! The Misti is not only for precision stamping but also for precision alignment. Now the shaker tag is done.

To further embellish the tag, I adhered the fuzzy cut critter to the acetate window. I adhered a triple bowed twine to the top of the tag. These tags are now ready to be attached to a gift or even adhered to a card front as an interactive embellishment.

While working with the Scrap N' Dipity images, another idea that came into my mind is coloring a couple of the same image, fuzzy cut it, and layer it for a dimensional image. Just thinking about it, these images will look cute using this technique. What do you think?
