Flower Pencil Valentine's Give Away

Hello! I created a give away for my 2nd Grader son to give away during their Valentine's Party this Friday. Instead of giving candy or chocolate this year, I thought of giving something that the kids will use in the classroom. I got the inspiration of this project from a Valentine Card Kit being sold by Paper Source. After I saw the kit in their catalogue, I said to myself, I can easily recreate this with the tools I have at home.

I started off with asking my son to write the color of the flower he wants cut-out for each of his classmate. I also asked him to choose the color of the pencil ferrule (the metal that separates the pencil and the eraser) he wants for each classmate. The pencils are from Office Depot which has a brown body and varied colors of ferrule, which by the way, the first time I found out that there is actually a name for this metal part of the pencil.

After I've sorted my card stock scraps to find the colors I need, I started die cutting the flower using the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Flower Die. I die cut the heart from gold glittered card stock using LF Sitched Heart Stackables. I used a small circle die to cut a hole on the heart and the flower where I will slip the pencil through. I spritz some shimmer spray to the flowers and set it to dry.

To personalize the pencils, I wrote the recipient's name on the pencil using We R Memory Keepers Foil Pen. This is also a perfect way to use up some foil scraps.

For the leaf and the stem, I die cut these using the LF Stitched Flower Frame. I used my scraps of paper to die cut these, too. I wrapped the stem around the pencil and adhered the two ends together using liquid glue. I clipped the ends with a craft tweezer to make the ends adhere better while the glue dries. I then, adhered the leaves to this stem, covering the back of the leaf with another leaf.

I adhered the heart to the flower using foam adhesive making sure the holes are aligned. I slipped the eraser through the hole.

I created a vase to hold the pencil flowers until it is given away. I re-purposed a Pringles container for the vase. I removed the metal tip off the top of the container using a blade. I smoothen the edges with a nail file. I used the Cricut to create the grass bordered wrapping paper. I added a Doodlebug Love washi tape at the bottom of the vase for added embellishment.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day! Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!
