Ink Blending on Layered Stencil

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Have you created a card inspired by yourself? This card is that kind of card.

My Inang (mother in Filipino) passed away last August 26, 12 days before my Amang (father in Filipino) celebrates his first death anniversary, and 18 days before my Inang would have turned 90 years old. It is a lot to take in. So when I made this card, I have myself in mind.

I am using the Altenew Silk Art Craft Your Life Project Kit. The kit includes a stamp set, a coordinating die, a 3D embossing folder and a layering stencil set. I am using all the products in this kit except for the stamp set.

I embossed the image on a lightweight Neenah Solar White cardstock. Using the die that also coordinates with the floral cluster embossed image (Isn't that amazing?!), I die cut the floral cluster. In doing this, there is a potential to flatten the embossed image and lose all that gorgeous 3D details. So, what I did, was match the embossed die cut to the embossing details of the embossing folder, then ran this through the die cutting machine to get the details back.

The layering stencils are conveniently numbered so you would know which layer to use first. There is also a small open circle at the top left of the stencil which helps in aligning the images.

I temporarily applied tape to the back of the die cut, then matched the stencil to the die cut. Stencil #1 has the dainty spine of the leaves. It has a tendency to move while applying ink to the stencil. A Pixie Spray would be very helpful to keep these stencil details adhered to the paper. If you don't have this spray, I highly recommend blending from the base of the leaf vein. Use a flicking, short stroke from the base towards the end of the dainty leaf vein stencil.

I used three shades of yellow dye ink and three shades of brown dye ink. I used several brushes including the Altenew Detailed Blending Brushes for small open areas. I also used a Tsukineko Fantastix Coloring Tool for the flower stigmas.

While the yellow dye ink is still wet, I pounced Ranger Yellow Pearl Powder on it for some shimmer.

For the panel, I cut wide strips of brown cardstock and a yellow dotted patterned paper. I applied adhesive to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" scrap cardstock. I lined the papers on this, alternating the cardstock with the patterned paper. I added details to this panel using the Altenew Dotted Swirls Debossing Die. I trimmed a sliver of the edges.

I adhered the embossed floral cluster to the top portion of the panel using foam adhesive. I trimmed off the excess, and adhered these left overs to the bottom of the panel. I didn't want to put these pretty cut outs to waste.

I die cut the sentiment on a Paper Source Curry colored cardstock. The sentiment is from the Altenew Hello and Hugs die set. I die cut the same sentiment on a Concord & 9th Stardust cardstuck. I applied shimmer to the curry die cut sentiment using Nuvo Midas Touch Gold Shimmer pen. I adhered the Stardust die cut on the back of this shimmery sentiment die cut, slightly offsetting it to the right and the bottom. I adhered this to the panel.

To complete the sentiment, I bravely stamped a sub-sentiment over the die cut sentiment. I say bravely because if this does not turn out the way I was envisioning it, all of the work I put in might come to waste. Anyway, thanks to the Misti Stamping Tool, I was able to get a good sentiment impression by repeatedly stamping this. Without the Misti, I won't be able to get a good impression on those raised crevices of the sentiment die cut.

I adhered this to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Stardust cardstock, then adhered it to an A2 note card.

This is my 10th AECP project. I have finished my assignment on each course. I just have to wait if I passed the courses, and if so, I will be given my major assignment to complete the course.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed, brilliant and creative day!
