Masked Embossed Watercolor Card

I am attracted to gold and pink these days especially after My Mind's Eye's new collection, Fancy That. When I saw Altenew's February challenge, I can't help but think of MME's collection, and how much I will enjoy participating in this challenge.

I embossed the flowers with gold powder. After stamping and embossing the large flower, I created a mask using Post-It so I could stamp the smaller flowers beside it and make the big flower in front of these small flowers. I colored these flowers using Tim Holtz Distress Inks. I enjoyed coloring it. I don't have a cream colored Tim Holtz Distress Ink so I switch to using the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor. It didn't come with a cream color as well, so I just mixed up some yellow and white. I painted this on the background. I tried to create an ombre effect making the bottom more vibrant than the top.

The sentiment was stamped several times using Versafine Onyx Black ink. After stamping the dots in between the repeated sentiment, I heat embossed this using clear powder. I used the three dots stamp to embellish the top portion of the card.  I stamped this using Versamark. I applied Perfect Pearl to these dots for a glimmer effect.

My light pink cardstock is light weight so I created my own pink border strip by rubbing the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Spun Sugar onto a strip of white cardstock. I allowed this to dry before I adhered it to the card base. The watercolor paper was attached to the card base using dimensional tape.

I am submitting this to the following challenge:

Shaker Valentine's Treat

This is my last shaker Valentine's treat made for my eldest son who is in 8th Grade. He chose KitKat for his treat and he chose to give it to five of his friends only. I tried cutting a design using the Cricut for the Kitkat but I decided to just manually trim the paper. The die heart that I used for my Lollipop Shaker Valentine's Treat is too big for the design so I used a Martha Stewart Punch All Over The Page Studded Heart.

My son wrote on the treats before I can take photos of it so I have to white out the names on the treats.

To hold the KitKats in place, since I place two in each treat, I punched a strip of card stock using a Martha Stewart Scalloped Heart Trim Double Edge Punch and stapled this, sort of like a band to hold the KitKats. I also used the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Notcher to close the treat.

More Shaker Valentine's Treat Holder

For my second son, who is in 4th Grade, he chose Pop Rocks for Valentine's treat. I used my Cricut Imagine and Cricut Fabulous Finds Cartridge to create the holder. As with my lollipop shaker treat holder, I created the shaker card in reverse. The window is a part of the image cut. I adhered the acetate, then dimensional tape around the window on the reverse side of the holder. It is a easier to adhere the dimensional tape on this design since it is a square. I poured confetti to the area. Since this is a large window, I can be generous with the confetti. I embellished the backer of the shaker with the cut out heart from the lollipop shaker treat which I also stamped with a forever friends sentiment.

My initial plan is to close the treat with a washi tape. But it won't stay shut so I used a We R Memory Keepers Envelope Notcher Punch. I don't know if it was the paper but I had a hard time punching the hole. I almost gave up in using this since I already wasted a treat holder in trying to punch a notch on the patterned paper. I practiced before I actually used the puncher on the treat holderss and I didn't have any trouble. But I like how it kept the treat holder shut without using additional adhesive to the design.

Lollipop Valentine's Shaker Treat

I've been slow in creating projects since the turn of the year. One of the reasons, I think, is because my toddler is so active that each time I go to my craft room, he likes to play, too.

This is my most recent project and I am glad I finished it on time for my son's Valentine's party. My third son, who is in 3rd Grade, chose lollipop for treats. Unfortunately, they don't want to give the same thing this year. The first choice was Dumdums but my toddler was with me during grocery time, so he chose Jolly Ranchers (over Ring Pops) for his older brother.

Since shaker cards are very popular these days, I decided to add it to the design of the lollipop treats. I created these shakers in a reverse way. After adhering the acetate, I surrounded the heart with foam adhesive on the back side, poured in the confetti, and lightly adhered the stamped sentiment background to close the shaker card. I lifted the piece to take a peek if the sentiment is peeking right where I want it before applying more pressure to the backside. Sometimes, I have a confetti stuck to the dimensional foam that I have to carefully undo it.

The shakers are die cuts from scrap patterned papers. Another way of using scraps! I just needed a single layer of dimensional adhesive to shake it. Sometimes, the shaker gets caught somewhere, but I think it adds interest to the design.
