Coloring with Twist Color Pens

The image I am using is from our challenge sponsor, Small and Round. The image is called Foresty Friends Coloring Page. Isn’t it a cute coloring page? Coloring books are on trend these days. I love to color but I haven’t jumped in to this coloring book craze. Coloring a full page sheet is something new for me.

Scrapbook Factory in O’Fallon, Illinois had a Yard Sale three weekends ago. One of my finds in the yard sale is a set of Marvy Uchida Watercolor Twist Pens which I first saw at Michael’s. It was a very sweet deal to find this at the yard sale. I am using these pens in today’s project. I also watched a video on how these pens are used before I started coloring.

I printed the image on a watercolor paper, printing it as a full page photo. I enjoyed coloring the image that I was coloring it during our drive back home from our Chicago vacation. I used a water brush to blend the colors.

I painted the background black from the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor. This is my first time to do something like this. I was nervous that I will mess up the whole page after all the hard work of coloring the images. I was surprised at myself for pulling this through. I was actually using several brushes so I can paint those tight areas. My favorite brush that I used for this project is the Raphael pure squirrel mop brush that I bought from Art Bar in the Philippines. The form of the brush actually works on tight areas.

The downside of painting the background is not achieving a uniform look. I think my mistake here is I applied paint to the middle areas before painting the detailed areas. I think I should have painted a section at a time and started coloring near the image then going farther instead. But with watercolor, this variation adds to the uniqueness of the layout.

After the whole page was colored, I added details using Prismacolor pens. I added dots of Ranger Enamel Accents and Nuvo Drops. I used a black Sakura Enamel pen for the eyes of the critters.

Now, the question is what I do with this colored panel. I can keep it as is, maybe put it on a frame. But I bravely cut it into three sections to come up with three card panels. Crazy, right?  With this panel, I created two A2 cards and a long card measuring 3.5” x 8.5”. I created gold strips by rubbing Versamark ink on a white cardstock, and heat embossing this with Wow! Metallic Rich Gold Pale embossing powder. I adhered the strips to the edges of the cards. I adhered fun foams behind the watercolor panels, then adhered it to the base card.

I also added shimmer to the images using Spectrum Noir Clear Shimmer Pen. I could have stopped here but I decided to use a black Wink of Stella. At first, I was just going to use it to add highlights to the cat until I decided to paint over the black background using it. I liked the look on the first card that I colored so I went ahead and colored the rest of the cards. I love how consistent the tint of black color throughout the card. Not to forget, the added shimmer. Coloring the background of the three cards did use most of the black marker's ink. If I can do this all over again, I would have done the re-touch prior to attaching the panel to the card. Now, I have some black streaks on the sides of the card which should be okay. It adds that touch of handmade to the card.

Our challenge for the next two weeks at Incy Wincy Designs is No Words, so I am keeping the cards as is. Should I decide to add a sentiment in the future, I can either die cut or stamp a sentiment on a cardstock and adhere it to the card front. Yrwin, my 6th grader, already asked to have one of these cards for his teacher.

I hope I gave you some inspiration on watercoloring a whole sheet panel and turning this panel into several cards. Please join us in our latest challenge at Incy Wincy. Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed & brilliant day.

Scrapbook Page for Altenew Sketch Challenge

I have not scrapbooked for a long time. I think I have created more cards than scrapbooking layouts. I sure miss scrapbooking for I think this tells one’s story, something to cherish. I am so glad that Altenew has its own Scrapbooking blog, with a challenge, too! This will definitely motivate me to scrapbook some more.

I stamped the flowers and leaves from the Altenew Hennah Elements stamp set on Strathmore watercolor paper. I used several mediums to color the images. I would like to achieve varied shades of pink and yellow which I think I will achieve if I use different mediums. I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide, Tim Holtz Distress ink pads, Tim Holtz Distress crayons, and Zig Color Clean marker. I was having so much fun experimenting that on the leaves, I mixed TH Distress Oxide Peeled Paint and TH Distress ink Mowed Lawn to color the leaf image. I dried the colors with a heat tool then sprayed Pearl Perfect Pearl diluted in water over it.

I fuzzy cut the images and lined the edges with a black marker to hide the white core of the watercolor paper. I have 14 flowers total as the same number of circles in the layout sketch. To add more variation to the flowers, I fuzzy cut the flowers even more to make it smaller. I didn’t want to waste the cut off flower petals so I glued this to the back of the medium-sized flower.

I die cut the photos using a Mama Elephant stitched rectangular frame die. The border is from the same Altenew stamp set. I stamped this on green cardstock using Versamark ink. I heat embossed this using Ranger Antiquities Verdigris embossing powder. This stamp came very handy for my layout. I cut the embossed strip in half using the lines on the design as a guide. In this way, I came up with two strips to adhere to the top and bottom edges of the photos.

I am using an Ellen Hutson Wood grain cardstock for my layout. I sprayed and splattered this white cardstock with Perfect Pearl Sour Apple diluted for more shimmer. I also splattered some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Peeled Paint on some areas.

Do you remember when brads are such a craze? I still have my own stash of brads. I don’t have a yellow and pink brad for the flowers so I colored these brads with Copic markers. I poked the holes and attached the big flowers using the brads. I used Glue Dots to adhere the rest of the flowers.

The sentiment is from Altenew Super Script stamp set. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I heat embossed this using black embossing powder. I fuzzy cut the sentiment leaving a small white border around the letters. I stamped the small sentiments on vellum strips using the same ink & heat embossing it as well with clear embossing powder.

I really had fun with this project. I am looking forward to creating more. Now I have something to add to our family album showcasing our last year’s summer vacation.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a blessed & brilliant day!

Wobbly Cricut Die Cut Thank You Card

Our chiropractor was nice enough to give us a gift card to Serendipity, a local ice cream shop here at Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri. My sons enjoyed the treat. To show how much we appreciated his kindness, I created this card with ice cream as theme, too.

I cut the image from Cricut Simply Charmed cartridge. I cut the ice cream cone in layers using cardstock. With the ice cream layer, I applied white Wendi Vecchi embossing paste. I didn't apply the paste smoothly to achieve the texture of ice cream. I applied American Crafts Grapefruit embossing powder. I set this aside to dry. I am not sure how long it took for this to dry but I left it overnight. After which, I heat embossed it. I adhered the layers using Ranger Multi-Matte Medium glue.

For the back layer which was cut in white cardstock, I stamped stripes using Simon Says Basic Stripes stamp set. The ink I used is Avery Elle Raspberry pigment ink. I adhered 1/8" double sided tape over the stripes. I poured Elizabeth Crafts Designs Cool Diamond Silk powder over the tape. After I shook the excess, I rubbed the glittered strips with my finger. I inked the edge of the ice cream part on this layer with the same Avery Elle ink.

To work on the card base, I am using a kraft Bazzill cardstock. I am fortunate to have a Simple Stories Beat the Heat patterned paper from the Summer Days collection which has ice cream cones on the B-side. I actually bought this patterned paper because of my obsession with clouds, which is the A-side of this patterned paper. I die cut this patterned paper using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die. I also used the same set of dies to create a border rectangle on a pearlized paper. I also used this to die cut another kraft cardstock.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Altenew Label Love on kraft cardstock using  Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink. I poured white embossing powder to this, then heat set it. I trimmed off the excess. I traced the letters using a 0.3 Sepia Copic multiliner. I adhered this to the bottom of the innermost stitched rectangle. I applied a Darice Mini Action Wobbler to the back of the die cut ice cream. I adhered this on top of the sentiment.

I hope you enjoy viewing my blog. Thank you for stopping by. Have a blessed and brilliant day!
