Stitched Pastel Rainbow Card

Hello! I hope you had a happy Easter celebration at home with your loved ones and/or maybe virtually. I created this card to join in Paper Smooches latest challenge on Pastel Color Story. I created the holes on the card stock using Paper Smooches Cross Stitch die. The die is 4 1/4" x 3". I ran this die twice through the die cut machine to cover a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white card stock with holes. I got the free rainbow pattern from Lucie Heaton Cross Stitch Designs. The original pattern includes a sentiment that is very  timely these days and uses bold colors. I changed the colors to pastel colors for this card. I looked up list of pastel colors online. I don't have all of the colors suggested. I looked up for substitutes and I still don't have these colors. I was getting ready to plan a curb side pick-up at Michael's when I found out that the Michael's store in our city are all temporarily closed. I was so sad. Oh, well! Some of the things this pandemic taught me is to be resourceful and innovative. That is exactly what I did with looking through what DMC I have and using it what I have.

I stamped the unicorn image from the PS Spectrum stamp set on water color paper using Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress ink. I colored this with Karin markers. I traced the outline of the unicorn with a Copic Sepia fine marker. I fussy cut the image leaving a small white border around the image.

Having a pastel rainbow and a pastel colored image does not work together. Both are lost with having the same color scheme. I tried adding a blue wash of color on the cross stitched background. That did not turn out well. I next blended a blue ink using the Picket Fence Life Changing Brush to try and save this project. I was still not satisfied with the look. The empty holes created by the cross stitch die were too distracting. So, I bravely fussy cut the cross stitched rainbow, leaving a small border around, cutting in between the holes.

For the panel, I die cut a cream patterned paper with a SSS Stitched Rectangle die. I stamped a sentiment from the PS Magical Sampler stamp set using My Favorite Things Kraft die ink. I flicked gold Finetec Mica Water color pain on the cream panel. I adhered the rainbow on this cream panel with foam adhesive. I adhered the unicorn next. I applied Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle pen on the unicorn's horn, mane and tail. I applied Ranger Glossy Accents to the horn. I adhered Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Jewels to the rainbow. I set this aside to dry.

I embossed a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" kraft card stock using the same SSS Stitched Rectangle die. I adhered the cream colored panel to this.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a SAFE, blessed, brilliant and creative day!
